- During the closing stages of the Battle of Berlin, Adolf Hitler would decide to remain in the German capital until his final days. He would remain inside the Fuhrerbunker, a large underground network of rooms and chambers in which the final parts of the Third Reich would live and operate until the War in Europe was over. The Fuhrerbunker would be where Adolf Hitler, Eva Braun and many others would meet their ends with the Third Reich crumbling around them.
The situation for the Nazis in May 1945, and it was clear that Berlin would fall to the Soviet Red Army. Inside Hitler's bunker was Hitler himself, Eva Braun (his wife), Joseph Goebbels and the Goebbels family, and many of Hitler's staff and closest advisors such as Martin Bormann. Hitler would decide to take his own life after marrying Eva Braun inside the bunker with his own Walther PPK pistol, but the death of the Fuhrer and his wife wasn't the only one to take place inside the Bunker.
Goebbels and his family would also perish, including his 6 children who were tragically murdered. There would also be a number of generals, Hans Krebs and Wilhelm Burgdorf who would decide to take the easy way out, rather than attempting a break out of the Fuhrerbunker with the advancing Red Army incredibly close. Today we look at those who died inside Hitler's Berlin Fuhrerbunker. In the future we will be looking at the breakouts from the Bunker, in which many of Hitler's staff attempted to escape to freedom.

I love these WWII uploads....both of my grandpas served in WW2 one was sent to Britain the other was sent to the Pacific. Neither of them talk about it, nor they watch any film dealing with battles. I remember my grandmas waking them up when they were having an intense nightmare. I can now understand them even more by your uploads. Keep up the awesome work

I've visited the site of the former bunker site. Did not have a good feeling around the area which coincidentally, a sudden rain storm happened just when the tour guide finished speaking.

Watch the movie “Der Untergang”/The Downfall to see how these last days in the bunker went. The movie is very accurate.
First off, the 2 bodies, identified by the Soviet SMERSH unit as "the Hitlers" found burned in the Chancellory garden were placed in ammunition boxes and moved to what became the East German Stazi HQ. They were dug up in the 1970s and completely burned. A piece of skull, alleged to be Hitlers, with a bullet hole in the top (if he shot himself in the temple, despite bullets doing strange things, a hole should not be in the top) ended up in the future KGB/GRU archives. In the late 1990s, a dna test was done, and it came back as female, not male.
That was the first time I had ever heard that Hitler died because of hearing what happened to Mussolini. I always thought he did it because he didn't want to be taken by the approaching Soviets, the same reason why the Goebbels' killed the children. The entire Third Reich - what was left of it - ran to anyone they could find from the Western side to surrender, and Patton infamously wanted to march all the way to Moscow.

Watching so much of this in the film Downfall made everything seem so vivid, with an almost unreality going on the whole time. You want to know the strange thing? After Hitler died, most of the people still in the Bunker started smoking (Hitler hated smoking and usually forbid it in his presence)
Thank you for another great video. The shame that Göebbels felt their children would lived with was correct, but came way too late. The shame is that Operation Valkyrie failed. So many lives would have been spared, and perhaps Blondie and the children could have been spared. Thank you again for this and all of your videos.
Had Von Staffenberg, the man who placed the bomb inside Hitler’s headquarters in what at the time was East Prussia (now part of Poland and Russia), stayed and had not left the scene he almost certainly would have succeeded in killing Hitler, although it would have almost certainly cost him his own life had he done so.

I live about 20 mins walk from the bunker location. Today the bunker site is just a car park. The bunker was deliberately blocked off many years ago, but, curiously, no building or redevelopment of the tiny site has ever been allowed. There are placards on the fence at the edge describing what is below. Its kind of like they want their cake and eat it...not allowing the bunker to be accessed but also wanting to memorialise it. i think the barren little bit of ground (not even a proper car park) is a weird kind of memorial to Hitler.
If the Germans knew that Germany would be open borders today would they have fought harder then because I believe if the allied knew what society would become today they would not have fought or would have joined the Germans

After Hitler's suicide his valet Heinz Linge collected his personal belongings, including the portrait of Frederick.
I never believed that Hitler had died in the bunker ..... because he was way too much of a coward to have done that , I believe someone else died in his place and he was smuggled out of the bunker to save his own cowardly skin .

@@tboman4128bunker Yes there is. Even the Soviets failed to show conclusively that he died in the Bunker. The CIA released some papers which shows Hitler and Braun escaped to Argentina, possibly by U-Boot. There was never a question of him flying out of Berlin

examine the jaw bone they recovered in Berlin outside the bunker. The dental records showed it was more than likely from Hitler.

I hope your future video gives details of how Hitler’s secretary survived. A lot of what’s known of the last few days of their bunker life is based on her testimony. And yet in her recorded interviews, she never really gave many details of how she escaped the bunker and managed to survive.

Colonel W. J. Heimlich, Chief of U.S. Intelligence in Berlin, was in charge of determining what happened to Hitler and after a thorough investigation, he stated;
"There is no evidence beyond that of hearsay to support the theory of Hitler's suicide. On the basis of present evidence, no insurance company in America would pay a claim on Adolf Hitler."
Nürnberg Judge Michael Mussmanno wrote in his book 'Ten Days to Die' that;
"Russia must accept much of the blame that Hitler did not die in May 1945."
The magazine Diario Illustrade of Santiago, Chile published an article on 18 January 1948 in which it reported on an incident at Templehof Airfield on 30 April 1945. The writer was friends with a gunner in a Ju 52 that had young SS troops for the defense of Berlin. He reported this;
“During this refueling operation he was suddenly elbowed in the ribs by his radio operator with a nod to look in a certain direction. At about 100 - 120 meters he saw a sleek ARADO AR 234. He and the radio operator saw, without any doubt whatsoever, standing in front of the jet, their Commander in Chief, Adolf Hitler dressed in field-grey uniform and gesticulating animatedly with some Party functionaries' who were obviously seeing him off. For about ten minutes whilst their plane was being refueled the two men observed this scene and around 4:30pm they took to the air again. They were extremely astonished to hear during the midnight military news bulletin some seven and a half hours later, that Hitler had committed suicide."
An article published in August 1952 entitled 'Hitler did not die' was subtitled;
"Adolph (sic) Hitler's fake suicide in Berlin Bunker is now exposed as History's greatest hoax."
Captain Robert Thew (ONI then NSA) flatly stated;
"We (the intelligence community) knew that Hitler did not commit suicide."

I did not know about Schadle. So that makes it a total of 11 who killed themselves below ground in the bunker itself. 6 children, two generals, schadle, Eva, and Adolf. The Goebles died outside. And Fegelein was executed days before in the ruins of the Chancery.
Its not verified that Schadle shot himself inside the bunker, and more importantly, Fegelein and Bormann's bodies are unaccounted for.

Speaking of eye witnesses, he was seen in a monastery in Spain, and from there he was taken to South America. Eva Brown was killed in the bunker so they could make it easier to transport Hitler. It was also support to make credible the claim that Hitler died there. How convenient that they never found his remains.

Napoleon was once quoted saying "History is a pack of lies agreed upon." I believe that to be very true in this case. It is well known that many Nazis escaped to Argentina after the war with the help of the Vatican, the Red Cross and Odessa. It's not by chance that little was done to do anything about it.

Bodies don't burn easily. You need a LOT of fuel...ie, an enormous stack of wood...and it takes a long long time for the liquids, fats and bone to be consumed. Hours.

Not sure what to think of Magda Goebbels. One version I read has her saying that she wanted her children dead as she had only raised them to serve the Reich and if there wasn't a Reich, there was no point in them living. Another version I read had her making some big bluff loyalty statement, like 'we'll all die if Hitler dies" then later, realizing Hitler meant to kill himself, spent a lot of time begging him to escape and save himself so she wouldn't have to fulfill her oath. But he ignored her and after a while, refused to see her.

Well, I learned two things here, that I was totally misinformed about previously. I was taught that Eva Braun was Hitler's wife and that she died with him in a bunker. But as I learned here, It was Eva Brown, who died with Hitler, in a Bunkah..
