I think the "final challenge" 2x2 would actually be impossible (since there would be no room to turn the outer cubes) unless it was like a 4x4 bandaged into a 2x2. Both ideas are super cool, I like the look of the 2x2 of 3x3s better because it's all 3x3s, but the 2x2 center would be much easier to turn without the middle layer of the central cube
I was imagining just keeping the core as a 3x3, but gluing together a few of the pieces to prevent the middle layers from turning. It would essentially be just like the inner mechanism of a 2x2!
@@Z3Cubing In theory, yeah. You'd just have to make sure that you didn't end up making it like a bandaged 3x3 where some turns would be impossible because of how the pieces were glued together. That sounds like a really cool mod

That last idea jumped off the screen as "so crazy that it could actually be great on shelves". I like the idea of the 3x3 in the center, but I can see how a 2x2 would be easier to turn.

That's what I always heard, but I never saw anyone actually do it! I think I only ended up with 4-5 of them.

You should do this with actual speedcubes. Only problem is that your wallet might not be too happy about that.

I think make the center cube a large 2x2 so the cuts are centred, and you could call it something like a "T-cube 3x3", after the T-Square fractal

i love how changing just 2 colors, orange and yellow, turned what would be some bad dollar store cubes into eyesores. the colors arent even consistent, just shows how much love and care was put into making these monstrosities
