  • ...Well, the title is not a lie. But at least there's enough emotional moments and solid pacing here to not be a low either.

Colin Stetson should really do a full collab with Tim because damn they corroborate well. His flourishing sax arpeggios and refrains mixing with Tim’s monolithic sound sculptures are just mesmerising! Overall, I think it’s Heckers best since Virgins and that’s saying something! Don’t get me wrong I like Anoyo and Konoyo, they’re like the match of slightly burnt toast and Fridge cold butter ahahah

Holy crap, I can’t believe how fast I immediately enjoyed it. This is damn near excellent stuff from front to back. While it’s obviously no Harmony In Ultraviolet or Virgins, I think every track on this album is very aesthetically pleasing and satisfying to the ears and I love how he incorporates string sections and a sax solo on here too, and it just flows seamlessly well on top of it from cut to cut.
For my favorite track… uhhhh it’s hard to choose, but for now I’m going Total Garbage for how grandiose and emotionally dynamic it all is. I also really enjoy both of the Monotony tracks (especially the second one for its aforementioned sax solo) and Lotus Light is just as impactful as well.
Overall, this is a fantastic album and one of Tim Hecker’s best. The fact that he came out with an album of this quality this late into his career is admirable. One of my favorites of 2023 so far!!!

Alright, Tim Hecker, my favorite ambient artist of all time and the one single artist I wanna see a discography review of the most. But yeah, I unfortunately have to agree with you on this one, it's still solid but it's one of my least favorites in a stacked set of albums and I'd argue it's just his most vanilla album to date. Many of my friends on AOTY are saying it's one of his best right up there with HiU and Virgins, though I'd say it doesn't live up to his other albums because it feels so plain, I'd probably put it in my second-bottom spot above Anoyo (as I feel Anoyo was redundant, personally). But at the end of the day, any Tim Hecker is good Tim Hecker. Total Garbage is the easy highlight for me and it's been one of my favorites from him since first listen. I just hope we get to hear more from him soon.

Really enjoyed it. It's more subdued for Tim's standards and puts more emphasis on the more cinematic elements of his sound, which I do really like and also kind of makes sense considering how he is now a film composer. I do wish it ended on a more conclusive note though :P
Another recent ambient electronic album I am liking is the latest Grandbrothers record

This is the first Tim Hecker album that I've instantly loved.
I guess I am a fan of "stylistically plain and uninventive" music 😅😅

Thanks for your well reviewed take on Tim Hecker’s album. Haven’t heard his music yet, I do love ambient music though. I will need to delve into his albums and give him a listen. 😊

Hiya Wonky Angle- I've been enjoying your videos for a long time- What are your thoughts on Denver New Wave as an electronic subgenre, and more specifically as a subgenre of New Wave itself? I think you should do a review of my album "Adult Swamp," I'd be very interested in hearing what you think about it.

It's weak compared to Ravedeath 1972, HiU and Virgins. Kind of a let down for me.

I found this to be Tim's most generic and uninspired release to-date. If you didn’t tell me it was a Tim Hecker album, I'd probably think it was Loscil. Disappointing overall.
