Everyone can decide for themselves what the MV is about but for a lot of people, myself included, felt like the cube is trying to destroy anyone who is "different". IU is deaf/mute while V (from BTS) is blind in one eye but since they're madly in love neither one sees those flaws and uses the lens of the camera to show the world how they already view each other - perfect and beautiful because of their love. Going against the trope that the man always needs to be the hero, IU picks up the metal pole first and then when their end is near she covers V's one good eye to prevent him from seeing what's coming. I think that the overall message is both uplifting and heartbreaking because these two people who are just trying to live their lives just like everyone else are being forced into a box of what society thinks their place should be since they're "different".
