For context, New Caledonians voted 3 times between 2018 and 2021 to stay French, in elections in which « newly » arrived inhabitants (those who arrived after 1998) did not have the right to vote (at the demand of the independentists).
That's important to remember, however, there's a force at work that wants to undermine and ignore these facts.
You left out the part where a huge chunk of the indigenous people didn't take part in protest because it was a lose lose situation for them.

@@alexandregamb A country in the 21st century that isn't facing the threat of invasion by neighbouring countries or a far away super would never deny their own independence willingly and choose France of all countries as their colonizer.

@@gregoiregandon5728 they basically massive export frenchies into the island, outnumber the natives, then hold the referendum, of course the majority say they want to stay. Now they even want to dilute the native power even more. Exactly why the native going protest right now.

Stop French colonization. It's ridiculous for an island in the Pacific to be part of France. If colonization continues, the local Kanaks will lose their island and become a minority in their homeland.

Or maybe the fact that the population does enjoy literally the same civil rights than every French citizen regardless of the ethnic background does explain why the majority voted to stay French 3 times in a row.
To put it into context. New Caledonia is part of France and even French people that have been living there for more than 20 years cannot vote. Intolerable.
New Caledonia belongs to the indigenous people and France need to leave there before their troops start to raise white flags as usual…

@@angelcabeza6464 The french have been spending so much on the infrastructure in Caledonia so much so that they feel all nationals should have a say in voting which is a fair democratic request,the natives have responded violently and that was not how they should have behaved..

@@fabb5 It's because Puerto Rico residents yet doesn't want to be a state of US. If they would chose to be state they will be able to vote. So any US Citizen that decide to reside in Puerto Rico also automatically loses they voting rights.
