    I can see you both are uncomfortable since racism is a huge issue in USA. And some of the jokes are very relevant to Indian audience. I wish someone had subtitled the terms..
    Manglik = someone with a fault in his stars, such that their first spouse (if non-Manglik) will die (obviously a superstition), so they marry a tree first to overcome that.

    • @vanianup
      @vanianup 4 года назад +13

      vader Ramn it is an issue but the issue has a completely different nature to it compared to western countries. We adore fair skin as standard of beauty but we don’t assume that dark skinned people are criminals and shoot them. In the entertainment industry people are discriminated against their skin colour but not when one is recruiting a scientist for ISRO. There is discrimination in many ways but I feel it is skin deep. I am also a dark skinned person BTW and grew up with fairer kids but never remember being pulled down for my skin tone.

    • @MrHigh-ep7po
      @MrHigh-ep7po 4 года назад +2

      It's not superstition & only in a few cases it can be fatal. It's all about compatibility. You can't marry a cow with a lion. Manglik people are very aggressive.

    • @littlesushie
      @littlesushie 4 года назад +2

      @@kamalikanandy5229 I never said that. But certainly the scale of issue is larger in the USA. In India, the equivalent is caste (and religion).

    About Brahmin marrying a touch-me-not and Marwari marrying a money-plant. It’s a dig at caste system where upper caste Brahmins consider lower caste people as untouchables and avoid any kind of physical contact with them, something you have seen in Article 15. Marwari people are known for their exceptional aptitude in finance, economy and business. Over the years the Marwari community thrived in business and went on to become undisputed rulers of Indian market. Hence, people often associate a Marwari with money.

    I regret suggesting this to you. This stand up set is more relatable for south asians and NRI's and south asians living abroad (I dont know if there is a term for that). There is more truth than fantasy when it comes to jokes on this set. If people can laugh about it, they understand how silly some cultural espects can be. Hopefully things are changing for the better among Indians, NRI's and south asians living abroad.

    About marrying a tree. If you have the ‘Manglik’ (unfavourable planetary position of Mars) aspect in your astrological birth-chart, it’s predicted that the person having this aspect is likely to deal with tragic untimely demise of his/her spouse from their 1st wedding. Hence, to avoid that the person with that aspect is married off to a tree and then to another person. That way his/her 1st spouse is a tree and it doesn’t matter if the tree dies as long as it saves a human life from early death. I know it doesn’t make any sense but superstition and bigotry are everywhere.

    Shaadi.com is matrimonial site. Shaadi means marriage. That's what he was talking about being registered on. And Manglik and marrying tree stuff was related to horoscope. Every kid on being born gets one made by their parents.

    Website he was referring was indian match making website for marriage. Example - www.shaadi.com/lets-begin?gclid=CjwKCAjw57b3BRBlEiwA1ImytoC7nWphjCOQWEhell7kMZi95cZ5pRbozn7bRbYI7OtbCx4q8mTMuRoCe9cQAvD_BwE Getting arranged marriage is whole different and stressful thing in India, it's like a country forming a new government and alliances and stuff..

    IIT (Indian Institute of Technology) and IIM (Indian Institute of Management) are the most prestigious science & management institutions of India. Not your fault, it had a lot of cultural jokes that you wouldn't understand. It's okay. React to "Cheating" and after that, "Hostel" by Anubhav Singh Bassi, WITH PROPER SUBTITLES. You'll love them. you reacted to "Waxing" by the same comedian and loved it.

    IIT MEANS INDIAN INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY AND IIM MEANS INDIAN INSTITUTE OF MANAGEMENT THESE ARE THE BIGGEST EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTIONS IN ASIA AND PERHAPS ONE OF THE BEST IN THE WORLD AND NRI MEANS NON RESIDENT INDIANS SO HE LITERALLY MEANS TO SAY IS THE RICHER PEOPLE

  • @vivmals3
    @vivmals3 4 года назад +2

    This was very topically cultural guys. I was like Rick, throughout, caught in between the urge to weep and laugh hollow. The tree thing is so weird to explain. In most Indian households, when a child is born, they life 'horoscope' is read and a lot of stock is put into it. A manglik is someone whose star is burdened with karmic bad luck and it's believed that if such people marry, they will encounter a bad experience, or that it will bring bad luck to both groom and bride. To counter this, karmically, the groom or bride, whoever is Manglik is first married off to an unsuspecting tree to complete the karma of the bad relationship so the person's marriage karma is reset thereafter. Whatever. This is for people who believe this stuff. Which sadly, many do, despite being educated from institutions like IIT & IIM (Top engineering & management, like Ivy league top)

  • @Kokapaoo
    @Kokapaoo 4 года назад

    The whole concept of mangalik is that if you are born as mangalik so before marrying a man or women you have to marry a tree otherwise there is a chances of some misfortunes might happen with your partner so you first have to marry a tree to avoid that curve.

    Almost everything he said is truly rooted in truth. Even the darkest parts. You want to think it’s an exaggeration but sadly, it’s true... not all of it universally in the same home, but all of it in bits and pieces in every Indian home.
