legendary assassin He is, a good fighter doesn't need to know just how to fight. They need to know how to have the correct mindset to fight and train for a fight in the first place. If not, when a fight comes, yeah you'll know the moves, but you might be overwhelmed and blank out.
I come back to this more often than I'd like to admit. Pretty comforting, when you just failed big time. I do martial arts since a few years now and I still suck. I fail at exercises others do as funny warm ups, I suck at fighting and katas, I injure myself all the time and I feel like I'm just holding back everyone in my sports club when I participate in training. - And I cry a lot when I come home afterwards. I thought about quitting a lot. People in my sports club motivated me though and gave me the feeling I'm a welcome "team mate". Plus I suck at martial arts but I still love it. I love the athletic part of it - the endurance, the calisthenics, the lifting -, I have fun when fighting the right person, I like to use kata as a form of meditation and the heavy bag workout kind of became my drug. Sports have never played a big role in my life - maybe as a tool to enhance my look - but I've now found the one I'd like to stick with cause it's fun. I did my first push up after one year of training and recently passed my first ever belt test which I had never thought I would be capable of. And I have a pretty good roundhouse kick. :-) Failed again just a few days after the belt test but I went to class the next time. Whenever I feel like I failed in training I think of this video and think about how it can help make me better. And I never quit. Always going to have these moments where my best isn't good enough - but I can always say I gave my best. Since I'm actually a happy person - just a shitty athlete - I'm going to thank you for the video if you read this comment. You inspired someone to keep doing martial arts. I wish everyone reading this comment fun and succesful training and a merry christmas time. :-)
Athletic or not, you are clearly a fighter! And you’re definitely a more inspiring role model than most people with six pack abs. Keep up the good work and happy holidays! 🙏🏻
Sensei I'm being crushed by Life because I wanted to stay a Baby & cry about how come staying within my limits wasn't enough - Thank you for this video, needed to hear it to wake up that warrior spirit & Fight For A Happy LIFE!!!!
I just came back from training, preparing for my green belt. I didn't do really well today and I beat myself up. I want to quit sometimes and cry. But... thank you sensei for pushing me. It just came at the right time.
Amazing Ando! Love to sentence: You have to make yourself uncomfortable. 'Cause that's exactly it! We have to step out of our comfort zones to learn something new. This is not only for martial arts, that's for everything, that's for life! That's what I say over and over, MA not only teaches you how to defend yourself, it actually tells you what it means to live! It makes you more creative, more confident, better looking, more flexible, fitter, more wise....I mean everything! I love the way you explained that Ando! You did it in an entertaining way, well done! Keep on Sensei Ando!
Over 30 years experience as a martial arts student and I still haven't reached my 1st Dan in "better looking"...What style are you taking?!? 😁 Seriously, (not to say I was joking above...) well said! 👍🙏
Ando You are the man ! each video of yours are better than the other. God, so much wisdom ! people with mentality like you should run the state .. you should run for president :) thank you Ando
Thank you so much for this inspiring video! I think this message applies to other parts of life as well, like career or relationships. It's better to accept your feelings than to be ashamed of it. You can only overcome your fears if you face them. No matter what happens or how many times you fall, you have to stand up again, move forward and get stronger.
"Yikes!" I've passed through many losses of control before, into and after my training sessions, but I'm proud to still stand up and keeping working on it.
I'm totally glad you made this video. I actually put my training on hiatus because of feeling overwhelmed. Now that I know what's happening, I'm headed back next week. By the way, I'm seeing that subject of the video isn't limited to just martial arts. Nice life lesson here.
thanks man cause I was wondering what was wrong I thought I was losing my mind. I was getting so frustrated. like you said I had to just keep pushing through. Thank for another excellent video.
Excellent video, Ando. Sometimes I feel as though I have to fight against just going through the motions of a workout. Pushing through your limits will always lead to success in martial arts and also in your everyday life or job. Thanks, Sensei Ando.
My O my I can't stop wondering how beautiful of a soul you are Ando! You open your beautiful heart and express yourself so amazingly I can't stop feeling the love after watching one of your videos so wise, so nice and so heart warming! Keep up the good work sir! Much love and balance to you! ^_^
i just hope you realize how much you inspire people .. whenever im feeling down whether its martial arts or just life , i come back and watch these videos and i feel motivated again again , no matter how bad the situation is , so thank you so much for your encouragment and for the wisdom you share with us .
I only started watching your videos today Ando but can already understand this man's comments about you. Inspiration, honesty and REAL TALK is what comes across with a lot of the advice I've seen you give. I have assumed this but feel I'm a good judge of character but your moral compass isn't off by a degree mate. Keep teaching people, bet you've helped so many people before. 1 more thing squarebob sponge pants. 😊
This video is right on time! I'm feeling the way you describe in this video as I'm about to teach a class this evening larger than I'm used to and I'm a little nervous about it.
When it happened to me, I wanted to fight anyone on the street while I was holding tears. It's a weird and intense feeling, but man it really does help you grow :)
Thank you Sensei. That is the first and only Video that really helped me reaching my goal of trying new things and making progress after just standing still for a long time :)
What a great video! I love Sensei Ando! Thankfully, I've never puked, but there have been several times after sparring, I'm so exhausted I have to lie down on the floor.
Inspired! Just the previous days I was crossing this line from lying to crying and then trying again... Now I feel my self as better, wiser and on a step higher. Another grate video Ando!
After reading through the comments, it's so beautiful how you've positively influenced so many. As a martial artist I am even more ecstatic that you clearly show how the Martial Path is truly a wonderfully pervasive Way of living one's life. "Martial" aside, these arts are a perfect vehicle for everyone and offer so much more than the physical. As all these beautiful comments show. Thank you Sensei 🙏
I love your mindset its logical and smart usually the moments you're talking about people react to them as being oppressed by life or something similar that is so negative but not so many people realize that
Sensei Ando, I really hope you would read this it's sort of an Emergency. I have an autistic hyperactive brother who's about to turn 16. In the evening he goes from adorable little child to cornered animal in seconds. Just a while ago when I was downstairs I heard him upstairs scratching and biting my mum, mum isn't strong enough to stop.So she was helpless and couldn't do anything but shout .So what he does is he grabs your arm, while shouting and crying he scratches with his nails and once your hands are weak enough, he pulls ( usually by your hair) and bites your arm/neck. I was okay defending him from mom for a while but he's getting stronger and I'm starting to loose control(I'm turning 18). What I usually do is If he's attacking me I push him by the chest or under the jaw to the sofa while he's scatching my underarm and trying to bite, I try to hold one of his hands by the wrist and calm him till he's tired. Once he's calm he feels sorry and kisses mum to say sorry (he doesn't know how to talk btw) So the question how do I defend myself and someone else from scratching and biting? Wish i could private message but Can you recommend any of your old videos or other sites for pointers? I reaaally hope you would respond sir. Thank-you
Of course, you're welcome to message me or email: ando@senseiando.com. But I'm not a family therapist or a special needs expert, both of which would be more helpful when it comes to recommending medication and creating a behavioral modification program. From a self-defense point of view, just know that restraining someone you love is much more difficult than fighting an attacker. God bless you for your patience!
I pray that turned out well! That's a really tough situation and I'm glad you had the courage to ask for help. My thoughts and prayers for you and your family 🙏
Thanks, I needed that. I've been trying to push myself lately. Still recovering from a weight walk two days ago: went to a hill by a local hockey arena with two 15lb weights doing curl to overhead press while walking up and down the hill, then started walking backwards. It really does hit a whole other neighbourhood of muscles. What I like about weight walks is they work every muscle in the body while you get some fresh air.
Whoa man, am I feeling that today! Thanks again, Sensai Ando, for all of the inspiration, motivation, and tutorials. I might not have had such a great night exercising in the falling snow in the wee hours of the morning if I didn't see this video. Cheers!
I added a little something to the routine that I found helpful and kind of fun: pick a tree or some other tall thin structure such as a lamppost or telephone poll at or near the bottom of your hill, square up to it, and as you walk backwards away from it up the hill with the weights, dip down with your lead shoulder (the shoulder going backwards, 'lead' sounds confusing going backwards, but it is still the side you're leading with, sorry.) and try and touch your toes with the dumbbell, while moving your head to the same side, like a boxer slipping a punch. I found it engages the lower back muscles and provides a good stretch. Took me awhile to find my balance and rhythm with this, but how sore I am is telling me to keep it up. The good sore, not the bad sore. Cheers, and have fun!
These moments I notice come from regulars than people new to martial arts. These moments are necessary, and a lot the time they come back. The ones that do are there for the right reason -- to truly better theirself. And yeah, martial arts isn't for everyone. I also think it's a necessary form of stress relief. When they vomit and I say "Well, better out than in." I mean it in more than one way. ;)
...says the guy who always makes me lose it 😡 even the smile makes me angry! 😂 Keep it up, you're an inspiration and example to many. Stay positive!... (jerk)😒 Kidding!!😃 ... 🙏
thanks one more time sensei. nice advise. sometimes I feel going down, but bushido says we have more conditions to get up and breakthrough. strong mind and softness could be the point to face all challenges. Why we fall. It's to learn how to get up stronger. Oss sensei. Thank you again.
Agree 100 percent!I was graded white belt at age 50.Year later grading yelow belt.Lost control at all.I do not know why.Two kata's - (not so much) i made not correct. Confused....I have got belt with big advance.Sensei mage examining was much younger that me.He made a favour (i gess). After i decided to make kata's 1000 times before next gradings.TO MAKE IT PERFECT :)Sensei Ando-san7-DAY MARTIAL ARTS CHALLENGE made perfect to me!Thank you very much
For sure! I accidentally almost kicked my Sensei and felt so instantly out of control and regretful I started crying as I was apologizing. He too was silent, and without judgment. After awhile he smiled and bowed and said "shall we continue?" Such a huge impact on me, and it stuck with me all these years. I hope you take something positive from your experience, and all the best to you in your journey! 🙏
I m glad I had found this video just now. I train myself at home in the filapino stick fighting arts. when I train with my sticks I notice that I have to train under a 15 to 20 minutes time frame because I get so into my training that I m afriad that I might break something at home where I train or fear of hurting my myself. I m really into my filapino stick fighting training. I enjoy it so much that one time I got so into it that I broke something in my room when I swung my sticks around by accident. What should I do? should I exceed my training time? Also I don't' want my passion/desire to get the better of me when I train.
+Justin Shaw The answer is always balance. If you feel out of control, add some mediatation or quiet time. Try visualizing, too. Controlling ourselves is the first goal of martial arts.... but it's not always easy!
Do u have a pod cast for this session? I liked this a lot, I always end up talking to myself at tend of my martial art classes, one time I actually broke down after my muay thai class we were learning clinching before the end of the class I got knocked down by my partner so many time, by the end of class I was like what happened. So I went for a walk after class I couldn't get my mind together, and busted out crying once I got home
I don’t have a podcast, but there is an article version. www.senseiando.com/breaking-down-in-martial-arts/ No matter what, you’re not alone! Keep going!
i have a "strange" goal as an instructor. i want my students to have doubts and feel like they are not doing it well enough, and get discouraged, and even think about quitting because it isnt worth the pain and everything that goes into martial arts. i usually get this far before i am interrupted and therefore dont get a chance to explain. i dont want my dojo to be simply a place to hang out or a place to drop off your kids while go run errands. i want people to understand that, in here, we work and we work hard. i want there to be students who take time off to decide whether or not they will come back. i want this because those that come back any way will be far better at martial arts and life in general than ill ever be and that is what i want for my students. i want them to go father and deeper than i ever thought possible.
+jomess7879 Thinking outside the box! Excellent. I get what you're saying. It's like Willy Wonka.... make it hard up front to weed out the weak. Then the ones who last get the keys to the kingdom. Do your thing!
Hello Ando, superb channel with superb contents, a big like from a fellow viewer... I have a request for you. Please make a video on what's better in a street fight, palm strikes or knuckle strikes? I feel closed fist strikes just don't work as good without gloves. For example, hooks without gloves are pretty dangerous IMO for the hand... It often leads to punching with the last two knuckles if the timing is off, which leads to injury. Palm strikes on the other hand are much safer, they allow you to gather more momentum before impact, they allow you to hit with more power without injuring your hand, and your hand doesn't slip from the target and every hit is more accurate and effective. I would love to see you do a video talking about which one is better for Street fight or gloveless fighting.... Looking for some of your knowledge and wisdom regarding this, thanks.
Thank you for the support, sir! And thanks for the video idea. I covered this a little in my video, How to Punch in a Street Fight, but now adding palm heels, I'd follow the rule soft to hard and hard to soft. It's definitely safer to hit the skull with your palm, but it's more effective to hit the body with the knuckles, for example. You basically just break down each area of the body and find a fist or hand shape that gives you the most effect. On the list! Thanks!
you are friend of Shane Fight tip guy right? I want to know if muay thai fighters can punch through concrete walls or not ? You reply to almost every comment(that's why i like this channel),he doenen't( im understand its difficult to even read every comment) . Can you ask him ?
i remember my first time rolling. i got way over heated and i wanted to puke. i had to sit down if front of a fan for like 5 minutes and calm down. it happened to me for about a month. now im all good. i can roll almost non stop for an hour class.
Sir. I've told you before that you are an awesome Teacher but I'll tell you this. If I was the head of a Martial Arts Organization, you're teaching style would be mandatory across the board. Should I ever ascend to that lofty position I'm going to find you Sir. Every Dojo needs one of you.
Working on it Sir. It wouldn't be an actual kidnapping, More like an act of piracy:) It would be up to you to be the Head Teacher or to act as a paid consultant to teach Instructors how to Teach. Without trying to get too crazy about this I do have a problem with most Martial Arts these days. There are tons of "instructors" but few actual "Teachers". I instructed a young student the basic form of Chon Ji. He in turn instructed another the same way I showed him and so on. I watched this and decided it was like clones. Something is lost with each "instruction" no matter how exact that instruction. I know you understand what I mean. Without knowing what the movements between the movements mean it all looks robotic or on the other hand too loose. Simple but important things are lost without an actual Teacher to guide junior instructors and this drives me a little crazy. Thank you Sir for you're time.
Ha! Yes... please don't throw a hood over my head! Teaching is definitely a separate skill set from fighting. I've been teaching for many years, and am constantly discovering new tricks to make lessons stick. But even on my best day, there is always disappointment. That's just part of being a teacher, I think! But it's worth it! Don't give up!
Exactly! This is why I dropped out of the tournaments years ago to concentrate on teaching. I discovered that for me at least, fighting tourny style with all the rules didn't work well. Being an old Marine on top of it just caused everything to devolve into a brawl and that's not good at all. I'll stick to being Mr. Miyagi :)
I know exactly what you're talking about. I served on an anti-guerrilla special-ops platoon here in Brazil back in the mid '80s, when we still had Generals as presidents. LOL
I'm a living example of what you recommend. I just have one problem, I can't think of a word to rhyme with bitching for a motivational training mantra.
Sorry for the late reply, I hope you read this: "Tears of a phoenix can cure any wound of your flesh, but only your tears can cure your soul". Truth to that, tension must be released, or you snap beyond recovery. As long as you don't break in the middle of fighting off a bunch of muggers in a dark alley, it's okay.
What kind of martial art can I exerce if I don't have any money ? I want to become stronger to defend myself and the people I love. I want to become wiser and confident. And if there is no answers to that, how can I prepare myself to start a martial art in the future (when I'll have the money and the means) ? And what martial arts is best for what I'm looking for ? Thanks and sorry for the english it's not my mother tongue.
Mamadou Rikion stop looking for the right martial art classes. find some friends in any kind of martial art and start learning from them instead. just make sure they actually know what they are doing lol and don't forget to buy them some food for teaching you :p
You've already gotten some good advice from Daniel and Syukri! Just do what you can with what you've got. The internet makes it easy to pick up some moves. Just practice what you can understand. And picking a style is as personal as choosing music or food. You just have to try a few until you find something that works for you. Enjoy the journey!
Many thanks for the answers. I feel like going more for boxing because I prefer to use hands only and not legs but I feel like boxing is more aggressive than spiritual and that I will not get the wisdom from exercising it and understanding it. What do you think ?
Wisdom is up to you, sir. There are life lessons to be learned in everything we do. You can be wise without even practicing a martial art! If you seek wisdom, you'll find it everywhere.
I wasn't sure what this video was going to be about, but it has me looking at class completely different ... at least for the last few months my stamina has increased a lot so class has not been to difficult over all... but it's not like I can't make it harder ... I should push as hard as I can for myself and to show sifu I'm putting my all into it... I'll mentally prepare for class tonight... I can't wait to puke too :D
I vomited on my first class. When i over pushed by body. It was outside but it was crazy. Because it was i felt was "fear".but i got better and better and yes i have yet to vomited.
Drink lots of hot beverages like tea, or even hot pepper tea. Your sinuses won't be able to clog after enough of that. I drink a tea of cayenne, honey, ginger, cinnamon, lemon...seems to help.
I'd rather die than puke. I really hate it! If I'm poisoned with bad food or alcohol I know I'll get better if I puke, but I don't until I almost loose it. But I'm ok with crying.
I dnt cry easily ...that's why my SENSEI was stunned ..but he let me be ..u know ..when I saw your videos...I told him.... look there I found another HERO. Sensei Ando. Thankyou so much
Training doesn't end when your body and mind fail, it begins.
Niiiiiice! Thanks for that!
My judo instructor told me the exact same thing..
legendary assassin He is, a good fighter doesn't need to know just how to fight. They need to know how to have the correct mindset to fight and train for a fight in the first place. If not, when a fight comes, yeah you'll know the moves, but you might be overwhelmed and blank out.
"until you lose the old you" seemed the deepest thing I've ever heard, spiritual..

That's wonderful, Zsófia! It's so easy to beat ourselves up... but it never helps! Keep fighting... and get that green belt :)
Beautiful!🙏

Comfort is the enemy of change.
You got it, Scott! :)
sensei ando please make video more because you give me alot of knowledge and motivation
and just want to say thank you to you sensei ando
Watch old video's once more!
Good Content take time to make.
Thank you for the comment, Mohamad! I let the spirits guide me... and I like to take my time. :)
Thank you for understanding, Mateusz! :)
Ando Mierzwa take your time ando as long the video is awesome
really good video. I am frustrated in my career and i am planning to quit but you make me known that I am on the right way
Awesome. Yes, breakthroughs happen in all areas of life!
Thank you as always Sensei Ando. 😃 You made a me a better person . ☺️ "Walking with a friend in the dark is better than walking alone in the light”
+Yip Yoda That choked me up. Yes, let's keep walking!
Thanks men, very motivational, I lost control recently and made me more eager to learn...
Good for you, Dimos! Keep going!
I approve of this, as my Dojo's "Guy who cries".
Ha! You should get that on a T-shirt! :-)
😃
Ando You are the man ! each video of yours are better than the other.
God, so much wisdom !
people with mentality like you should run the state .. you should run for president :)
thank you Ando
Thanks very much, Obaida! But for now, I'll just stick to being the president of me. :)
"Go puke"- I never thought I would hear that in a martial arts channel! LOL...
Anyway another great trip Sensei- not a breakdown, but a breakthrough!
+Akash Neelim Ha! Yes, sir. Puke away! Thanks, Akash!
Thank you so much for this inspiring video! I think this message applies to other parts of life as well, like career or relationships. It's better to accept your feelings than to be ashamed of it. By the way, I'm seeing that subject of the video isn't limited to just martial arts. Nice life lesson here.
Good for you! Get back in there. And yes, truth is truth. What you learn on the mats follows you everywhere!
That is insane sometimes how MA can improve Youre lifestyle!
I think it's perfectly sane! It's all the people who don't take martial arts who are insane! :)
Your videos and advice are so much useful to me in my life, and i sincerely thank you, Sensei Ando.
That means a lot to me, Mike. Thank you!
thanks man cause I was wondering what was wrong I thought I was losing my mind. I was getting so frustrated. like you said I had to just keep pushing through. Thank for another excellent video.
Don't you give up, David! We all go through dark periods. Keep going!
Excellent video, Ando. Sometimes I feel as though I have to fight against just going through the motions of a workout. Pushing through your limits will always lead to success in martial arts and also in your everyday life or job. Thanks, Sensei Ando.
+Rusty G You got it, Rusty. It's so easy to tune out. But that's not the path to being our best. Keep pushing!
My O my I can't stop wondering how beautiful of a soul you are Ando! You open your beautiful heart and express yourself so amazingly I can't stop feeling the love after watching one of your videos so wise, so nice and so heart warming! Keep up the good work sir! Much love and balance to you! ^_^

Thank you so much for the kind words, Murray! They mean a great deal to me. Happy training!
"What's the point in changing your clothes when you are not changing yourself" 👍👍👍
Glad that made sense! :)
This video is right on time! I'm feeling the way you describe in this video as I'm about to teach a class this evening larger than I'm used to and I'm a little nervous about it.
+Eric Nathan Feeling nervous just means you care about what you're doing. I'm sure you're a great teacher, Eric!
😕 I know I'm 3 years late to the party, but I'm kinda curious how that class went. ☺
When it happened to me, I wanted to fight anyone on the street while I was holding tears. It's a weird and intense feeling, but man it really does help you grow :)
Intense, yes! Good for you for learning from it!
Thank you Sensei. That is the first and only Video that really helped me reaching my goal of trying new things and making progress after just standing still for a long time :)
That's awesome! Glad you're back on track! Go forth and conquer! :)
Beautiful. Brave advice. True! True! True!
+Daniel Skipp Much appreciated, sir!
What a great video! I love Sensei Ando! Thankfully, I've never puked, but there have been several times after sparring, I'm so exhausted I have to lie down on the floor.
Thanks for the support, my friend! Keep training hard! :)
I needed this Ando.. thanks man
Absolutely. I have to remind myself as well! :)
I have a question for you, which there might not be an answer to, but is there any martial arts you would especially recommend to start with? (:
It seems there IS no answer to this...or am I just reading too much into it?😁
Inspired! Just the previous days I was crossing this line from lying to crying and then trying again... Now I feel my self as better, wiser and on a step higher. Another grate video Ando!
Yes! You take a step higher every time you don't quit. Keep climbing, my friend!
That's just what I needed to hear.
+George Lima Thank you for the comment, sir!
Thank You so much for these beautiful thoughts...
You're very welcome, sir! Happy training!

Simply straight to the point and wise.
Thank you very much!

Your support is much appreciated! Thank you!
Oh my god really nice and strong video
+WAW wat'saboutworld Great comment. Thank you!
This is one of your best videos I think. And that's really something.
I love the comment. Thank you very much!
That's really logical and scientific way of thinking...Very helpful.
+Arnab RoyChoudhury Thank you for the comment, sir!
I love your mindset its logical and smart usually the moments you're talking about people react to them as being oppressed by life or something similar that is so negative but not so many people realize that
Thank you for the kind words!
Ando Mierzwa 😁
Once he's calm he feels sorry and kisses mum to say sorry (he doesn't know how to talk btw)
So the question how do I defend myself and someone else from scratching and biting?
Love ya man, keep doin whatcha doin!!
+Jenny Morrall Thanks, Jenny! You keep doin' whatcha doin', too! :)

Sometimes, it’s the only quiet place.😁
And remember...record responsibly. Please don't vlog and drive.
Ando..man, thank you
Its not only relevant for MA
Yes, sir! True is true. Martial arts is life!
Yep, my first rank test. I was 15 and I held on to that orange belt all the way home. :)
+Frank Galaviz You didn't wear it to bed like I did? :)
+Frank Wagner What a great workout idea, Frank! I think I'll go do that right now!
That's a good challenge! Thanks for the follow up, sir. I did some sprints and forms with dumbbells today thanks to you! Keep pushing!
Thank you!!
You got it!
These word gave me hope love you sensei
There's always hope. Love back atcha!
ive trown up as well 😣 and got right back to work ,boy my breath stank
Awesome. Keep fighting!
These moments I notice come from regulars than people new to martial arts. These moments are necessary, and a lot the time they come back. The ones that do are there for the right reason -- to truly better theirself. And yeah, martial arts isn't for everyone.
I also think it's a necessary form of stress relief. When they vomit and I say "Well, better out than in." I mean it in more than one way. ;)
Ha! Yes, exactly! :)
You're my freekin hero!
Ha! Thanks for that!
Thanks man
You got it!

thanks one more time sensei. nice advise. sometimes I feel going down, but bushido says we have more conditions to get up and breakthrough. strong mind and softness could be the point to face all challenges. Why we fall. It's to learn how to get up stronger. Oss sensei. Thank you again.
Yes, sir. I agree with all of that. Keep rising. Keep learning. OSU!
Thank you very much for another very important lesson..

I cried in front.of my SENSEI... he just sat there silently
That's a deep moment!
For sure! I accidentally almost kicked my Sensei and felt so instantly out of control and regretful I started crying as I was apologizing. He too was silent, and without judgment. After awhile he smiled and bowed and said "shall we continue?"
Such a huge impact on me, and it stuck with me all these years.
I hope you take something positive from your experience, and all the best to you in your journey! 🙏
Thanks Ando!
Thanks for watching, Tim!
Yeah that happend to me 😏
I feel like a better person now!
Exactly! Out with the old, in with the new! 😄
I don’t have a podcast, but there is an article version. www.senseiando.com/breaking-down-in-martial-arts/
No matter what, you’re not alone! Keep going!
i have a "strange" goal as an instructor. i want my students to have doubts and feel like they are not doing it well enough, and get discouraged, and even think about quitting because it isnt worth the pain and everything that goes into martial arts. i usually get this far before i am interrupted and therefore dont get a chance to explain. i dont want my dojo to be simply a place to hang out or a place to drop off your kids while go run errands. i want people to understand that, in here, we work and we work hard. i want there to be students who take time off to decide whether or not they will come back. i want this because those that come back any way will be far better at martial arts and life in general than ill ever be and that is what i want for my students. i want them to go father and deeper than i ever thought possible.
+jomess7879 Thinking outside the box! Excellent. I get what you're saying. It's like Willy Wonka.... make it hard up front to weed out the weak. Then the ones who last get the keys to the kingdom. Do your thing!
This is wisdom
Thank you for the kind comments, sir.
thanks a lot, sensai
Thanks for watching, sir!
Awesome video!
Thank you!
Wow.
i love you Ando
Same to you!
Thanks!
***** Exactly my thoughts. Thank you for the reply. You are great Ando.
Thanks for the chat, sir!
thanks sir
Very welcome!
you are friend of Shane Fight tip guy right? I want to know if muay thai fighters can punch through concrete walls or not ? You reply to almost every comment(that's why i like this channel),he doenen't( im understand its difficult to even read every comment) . Can you ask him ?
Come on, man. Punching through concrete walls? Depends on how thick the wall is!
so muay thai fighter can punch through how much thick cm wall ?
I've done that before 🤢 and one of my opponent was sick in the cage
Yes, sir! Puke happens. And that's a good thing!
i remember my first time rolling. i got way over heated and i wanted to puke. i had to sit down if front of a fan for like 5 minutes and calm down. it happened to me for about a month. now im all good. i can roll almost non stop for an hour class.
That’s awesome. And very familiar! 😄
I wanna learn every martial arts right now!!!!!😭😭😭😡😡 Because I couldn't protect my mom 😤😤😤Thanks For the help🙏🏽
I can't imagine a cause greater than that! Protect your mom!!
Ando Mierzwa thank you
Sir. I've told you before that you are an awesome Teacher but I'll tell you this.
If I was the head of a Martial Arts Organization, you're teaching style would be mandatory across the board. Should I ever ascend to that lofty position I'm going to find you Sir.
Every Dojo needs one of you.
+Smitty Smith Wow. I'm honored, sir. Now hurry up and get that lofty position! :)
Miyagi :)
Great! The world needs as many Mr. Miyagis as it can get! :)
I know exactly what you're talking about. I served on an anti-guerrilla special-ops platoon here in Brazil back in the mid '80s, when we still had Generals as presidents. LOL
That's impressive! Thanks for the comment, sir!
I'm a living example of what you recommend. I just have one problem, I can't think of a word to rhyme with bitching for a motivational training mantra.
Ha! I'll think about that... :)
I lost control recently, this is the cure.
It’s always a struggle!
AC/DC from Part 2 of Jojo's can demonstrate this
Sorry for the late reply, I hope you read this: "Tears of a phoenix can cure any wound of your flesh, but only your tears can cure your soul". Truth to that, tension must be released, or you snap beyond recovery. As long as you don't break in the middle of fighting off a bunch of muggers in a dark alley, it's okay.
Thanks, Piotr! Interesting quote... gotta think about that one! :)
If you seek wisdom, you'll find it everywhere.
ok i go cry
I LOVE ITTTTTTT !!!!!!!
Thanks for all the exclamation points! :)
I cried at the end of my Karate 1 college class yesterday (April 30, 2019).
Because you hated it or because you loved it? 😁
@@AndoMierzwa because I loved the snot out of it.
@@breakingboardrooms1778 That's beautiful. Truly! I hope you can stay on the path! :)
Yes, Kori, YES! Puke all over you Sifu's shoes! :D
Ando Mierzwa thanks a ton I will! hahaha
Ando Mierzwa thanks a ton I will! hahaha
Hi Ando!
Howdy, Mirko!
its hard for me to lose control
If you don't lose control, that's okay, too! Just keep pushing yourself, Christian!
I so wish that I could fight more freely,I'm always afraid to hurt the person or bully.
It's all about control. Train so you trust what you're doing!
Thanks but I don't have anyone to train with everyone is either busy or afraid.
You'll find someone. Joining a club is also a good idea! Train what you can for now.
I vomited on my first class. When i over pushed by body. It was outside but it was crazy. Because it was i felt was "fear".but i got better and better and yes i have yet to vomited.
Excellent! Thanks for letting people know they’re not alone! 👍🏼
I wanted to cry today bc my sinuses have me feeling not well enough to train. Why do I feel like this before the final testing preparations??? 😳
+K Jackson Stress can affect us in so many ways. Can't say for sure how it affects you, but keep fighting no matter what!
Drink lots of hot beverages like tea, or even hot pepper tea. Your sinuses won't be able to clog after enough of that. I drink a tea of cayenne, honey, ginger, cinnamon, lemon...seems to help.
Thanks for the advice, Frank!
That was like me in football on thursday
+AyoPlaysRoblox Ha! You must have played hard.
I can't wait to land my kicks as hard as I can
+Loco Gio Motocroz Excellent! :)
I'd rather die than puke. I really hate it! If I'm poisoned with bad food or alcohol I know I'll get better if I puke, but I don't until I almost loose it. But I'm ok with crying.
Ha! I understand. I don't even like sweating!
I also cry...I dnt see that as a sign of weakness
Not at all. Unless other people see you! 😄
I dnt cry easily ...that's why my SENSEI was stunned ..but he let me be ..u know ..when I saw your videos...I told him.... look there I found another HERO. Sensei Ando. Thankyou so much
Simaya Raza Bless you for the kind words. Happy training to you! 🙏🏻
Your muscles also have to "break down" before they rebuild stronger.
Right! Mind and body follow the same path. 👍🏼
I guess for 20 years I haven't been trying hard enough...
There's still time to fall apart. :D
