Happy 35th birthday, Touchstone. Also, give Touchstone to Bruckheimer, Disney! I hope you really enjoy(ed) this documentary. March will have something bigger.
I don’t think Touchstone is going to reactivate anytime soon. Disney needs to concentrate on Pixar, Marvel, LucasFilm and 20th Century Fox for their films, not just Touchstone. In addition would be live action remakes of animated films which would come up. Disney has done well with “The Lion King” as a live action and it became a worldwide hit than the original animated version. Disney has done live action remakes of animated films in the past decade. There will be more in the 2020’s.

I don’t think Touchstone is coming back anytime soon. Disney is concentrating on Pixar, Marvel, LucasFilm, and now 20th Century Fox. Both Touchstone and Hollywood are faded into studio’s history.
I’ve only personally seen 3 of Touchstone’s films, Who Framed Roger Rabbit, Unbreakable, and The Prestige. I quite liked those films though and the division as a whole seems like a solid one for Disney. I can get why Disney decided they didn’t need it anymore since they are capable of producing PG and PG-13 films under the main Walt Disney Pictures banner (though there are some films where I question whether they fully realize this) not to mention how the company has become far more focused on tentpole, franchise films since the mid 2000’s and Touchstone is more known for standalone projects, but yeah I really don’t get why they didn’t just sell the studio to Jerry Bruckheimer given he was interested in it and they had no problems with selling Miramax, another studio which mainly specialized in standalone films that Disney slowly but surely lost interest in. Was it just out of pride? Or would selling the studio have meant they would’ve also had to sell the rights to it’s library of films like with Miramax?
It’s even worse that Touchstone did not return for the international release of Glass, a sequel to Unbreakable (a film made by Disney in 2000, under the Touchstone Pictures label)
It was mostly Sony's doing. Only reason Touchstone was brought on was so they felt more comfortable banking on a high budget film that was not a guaranteed hit.
