    What a coincidence! I've been running in the Agravic Speed Ultra all year (since the woman's version became available in the US), but recently got spooked by the surfaces at Speedgoat and the low lug depth of the ASUs. So today I whipped out the trusty SG 5s for some hill intervals. They felt like moccasins. Great for proprioception perhaps but the downhills -- which have never given me any trouble in the SGs before -- started to bother my knee. I guess I've gotten used to the rods in the ASUs. I will probably bring the SGs to Utah with me in case I have a last minute freak out. I don't have enough time to get the SG 6s, but I have a pair of SG 5s with soles in good shape. In the future, I may try to find a way to rotate between the SGs and the ASUs. The Challengers are still the "if you could only have one shoe ..." winner though.

      Very interesting about your knee giving you a bit of trouble in the SG 5s. I wonder if it really is the rods in the ASUs that have prevented any discomfort? I suppose it could be the increased stiffness...
      Agreed about the Challengers. I haven't heard if there will be an update this year. I hope so!

    Very successful line and it looks it will continue to be so. I've never worn any Hoka trail shoes but they're the go-to for lots of runners.

      Yep! A good, although incremental, update for the Speedgoat!

    I love my HOKA Speedgoats. I have the 5. They are comfortable on the trails. I even occasionally use them on road runs. I like that they have that hill pull on the back on this 6 version. It would help putting the shoe on.

    • @its_Matt_B_
      @its_Matt_B_  2 месяца назад

      A heel pull is always a good addition!
      I've used mine on the roads too, when I'm running to the trails and they worked fine,. The only downside is they make a bit of noise on the roads!

      @its_Matt_B_ yes, they do . I thought I was the one making all the noise on the road. Hahahaa. Good to know I am not the only one.😅

    Recently tried the 5’s. Did some light trail hiking in them and spent time around the river with them. They were great! Plenty of grip even when wet and on wet rock. I definitely felt like the four wheel drive was on! I am looking forward to more time in them on a couple local trails as I build up to more of a speed/run in them. I’ve never had proper trail shoes so I don’t want to go too far to fast. Building up is my plan. Hopefully I’ll be getting back to New Hampshire for my annual trip this October and that will be a great time to run up the Mt we hike!

      Nice! Glad to hear the SG5s are grippy where it matters! Whcih NH mountain will you be running up?
      I have a plan in the back of my mind to be in NH in October for the Mt. Washington Marathon. It runs from the base of Mt. Washington to Attitash Village. I'm not committed, but still thinking...

      @@its_Matt_B_My son and I go with his Scout troop to Mt Cardigan. It’s certainly not on the same page with Washington but it is a great 5 mile adventure! It gets fairly technical in spots. Fingers crossed that the trip is on this year. I’ll keep you posted! We usually go for Columbus weekend. It’s always been a goal to run as much of it as I can. I’ve done a couple sections but it’s hard to do all because we do try and stay in a group.

    I bought the Saucony Pergrine 13 in April to give me a reason to do more trail running this summer. So far it's working, and they're super comfortable. I thought about buying the Speedgoat 5 a few times before that, but when I tried them on the flared heel felt a bit slippy.

    • @its_Matt_B_
      @its_Matt_B_  2 месяца назад

      The main thing is getting out on the trails, so it's a win if the Pergrine are helping with that. Hoka didn't change the heel design with the Speedgoat 6, so you made a good call with the Saucony!

    did you try the 5's, too? I ask as other folks indicated the 6 has a firmer midsole (which may be a good thing).

    • @its_Matt_B_
      @its_Matt_B_  Месяц назад +1

      No, I didn't run in v5. I also read the midsole was slightly firmer in v6, but without the 5s to compare them to, I didn't think they were too firm at all.

    I think Mach 6 has supercritical EVA. If the foam looks the same, this might be also supercritical EVA.

    • @its_Matt_B_
      @its_Matt_B_  Месяц назад

      I thought I mentioned it in the vid, but perhaps not. Yes, I think this is using the same foam as the Mach 6.

    Interested in starting with some light trail running and don’t own any trail shoes. Would you recommend these, or something else?

    • @its_Matt_B_
      @its_Matt_B_  2 месяца назад +1

      These would be a good option as they will feel great on a lot of trails. There is no rock plate, but the bottom is protective enough and the grip is phenomenal.
