Customers - don't expect any rebates or discounts. i bought a scooter after following a code and I was not rewarded the code. In fact, the "customer support" ignored my inquiry about the discount. After that, the $10 tube failed and when I replaced it found that the tubes were not designed for the hub it was placed on. The "support" said it was my fault and I could buy a new tube on their website. You will absolutely get no support on the following: Parts not typically covered include but are not limited to: Brake pads Rotors spokes Tires/tubes Chains Chain rings Cassettes Crank-set Screws Fenders Keys
Thanks for another great review. I started riding lime scooters, then an Unagi Model One, and about 3 months ago the Gotrax GX2. What a fantastic entry level sport scooter! Gotrax is doing something right. Priced perfectly for what you get. Other high performance scooters that go faster and have more range, are heavier and more expensive. ThE GX2 is fast enough to over take cars (city driving) and zip through intersections, giving me the adrenaline rush that I love about riding scooters. I live in Oakland California - not known for pristine paved roads. The GX2 handles the potholes and road hazards that I don't manage to see and weave around. Im in love with my GX2 and It gets a ton of attention. But I am ready for the slight upgrade, just because I am a scooter-head - but as Paul pointed out. The Gx2 gives you pretty much everything less the more rugged appearance and all around upgrades. If you were on a budget like me and every dollar counts, you'll be so happy with the GX2 and the extra (800?) dollars in your pocket. I still want the GX3. That thing looks amaze balls. But I have yet to find myself disappointed by my purchase. . That being said if anyone in the bay area is interested in a GX2 with 500 miles on it I will entertain offers, only so that I can upgrade to the GX3!
Im glad you guys finally got a chance to get your hands on the GX3. I remember test riding it at rider fest and i was super happy with the feel of it. The smooth acceleration, the plushy suspension even for a BIG Guy like me. Truly an amazing scooter for the price.
I decided on this scooter based on this review. Got it yesterday and love it. Took it out for late night ride and light really throws off distance although beam is too narrow. Would like to see a wider throw. Brakes, suspension, acceleration and ride quality is top notch. This is a Tonka truck of a scooter, very bulky and well built. Playing with throttle now. Initially set up as thumb throttle but not sure I like it.
Did you buy it from their website? I placed an order this morning but Shop Pay sent me an email saying it could take up to 30 days for them to process the order. I called the customer service line and nobody answered or called me back. I'm just wondering how long it will take before they ship it lol.
@@ThaGreatWhite813 I bought it directly from the website. However I must note after 40 miles the rear hub motor went. The replacement was going to take 8-12 weeks so the company offered to replace the scooter. Apparently This was a problem others had. Customer service was helpful and I’m sending it back now. I’ll keep you posted.
@ryanesposito5755 awesome, thanks for the heads up. I was looking at a Sur Ron, but the Gotrax warranty is what sold me on the GX3. It's reassuring to know they will flat put replace it if I run into any issues. I should get my hands on it next week, and I'm excited to use it for my commute.
Been waiting months for a motor controller for my gx1. Horrible customer service. They then sent me a front motor. So still waiting for a controller. The customer service is not USA based and you can’t call and talk to them.
So sorry to hear about that. I've called and got a live human within a few minutes, but I was just calling with a question about parts ordering and wasn't looking for customer support at the time. It's too bad they can't give you a 100% off discount code to order the part yourself. It seems to be orderable on their site, but then you'd have to pay $99 for a warranty part, so that doesn't work. I hope they're able to get you sorted out soon. -Paul
So happy you finally received the GX3! I really appreciate the fact you took it off-road as well. Because that’s what it is: an off-road scooter. I don’t know any scooters in the whole industry that use 4 Hydraulic shocks adjustable. Is it made of steel or aluminum?
Good question. Most of the shock is aluminum, so I assume that the damping cartridge is aluminum as well. I think this may be the only production scooter with four adjustable hydraulic shocks. I think the Hunter Quad did it first, but definitely not a production scooter. -Paul
Appreciate all the work and creativity you guys put into all your videos, very well researched as always. Love the scenery and views, san francisco looks incredible, Great review as always 👏 😊
Finally! I was looking forward to this review since I'd basically decided that this will be my next scooter. After the review: Hell yeah, I'm definitely going to get it when I can afford it! ETA: I love that you were so enthusiastic when this finally showed up. Took them long enough to get it to you!
Awesome! So glad you enjoyed it. Sorry about the weird audio. Have fun with your GX3. I meant it when I said I could be happy with one of these for a very long time! -Paul
I've only gone about 100 miles, but it should be similar to other scooters except that the lack of regen means more mechanical braking. (If I remember correctly they don't use regen, just like the GX1 and GX2). -Paul
Which would you recommend the Gotrax gx3 or the solar eq? Much appreciated. I'm on the fence on which one to go with. Love the channel. I'm roughly 5'10 250lbs. Thank you
Both are great. The EQ is slightly faster top speed wise, but the gx3 is a lot newer of a design and has a two year warranty so would probably give it the slight edge. Code ESG100 will get you $100 if you decide to pull the trigger!
I didn't open this one, but I did open the GX2 in that video and it sure looks the same. There are 6 little rubber flaps in the deck so you don't need to pull back the deck rubber itself. Under that are 6 screws (I think they might have been phillips screws. Then the battery is right inside. Usually they are held down by 4 to 6 screws. They have batteries listed as available for 17 different models right now. The GX1 and GX2 are listed, but showing as sold out, the GX3 isn't listed yet. In the long-term video I did on the GX1 and GX2 I called customer service and was shocked to get a real person on the line within about 10 seconds. She said that if you need something that's not listed you have to email customer service. I emailed them and they responded, though it took a few days. I've been encouraging all of the scooter companies to list more parts on their sites, since it wastes everyone's time to not have all of the parts listed. -Paul
Thanks, Paul! I did reach out to them. Here's what they said " Hi Dear, Sorry for the inconvenience, but the battery was out of stock now , it may need about 1-2 month then it will back in stock ,and it's LG battery , $370 for the battery. thanks a lot. Best regards skyler from Gotrax Support Team"
Thanks Paul, looks awesome! Question for you, what would you recommend for a good off-road (mainly) / on-road scooter that is trusted and with safe LG/Samsung batteries. Top speed at least 20mph and range at least 20 miles. Best bang for the buck, price under $1500. I am looking to exercise my malinois more and need 1 or 2 recommendations. Been looking at your videos, but it's really hard to pin point one.
Wow, that's a very specific list, but I think doable. We just updated the search tool at the new electricscooterguide website. We got a new one without the dash in it. Hopefully you can find one there. The EMOVE Cruiser S hits all of these marks with speed and range to spare. The GX1 and GX2 are amazing value for dual motor scooters, but don't have LG/Samsung cells, though I would trust them to be safe since the scooters are UL listed. -Paul
Mr. Paul Sir, Firstly, I would just like to say that I love your reviews and the whole ESG crew! I am very interested in the GX3 and hope to get mine in the next couple of weeks. I noticed that the tire is a tubeless tire. I was wondering if it is possible to pull the tube from the tire install a tubeless style stem, air it up and run it as a tubeless rather than tubed?
I doubt it. I’ll bet they would have run it that way if the rims allowed it. I don’t think the stem-hold is made to hold a seal on these rims, but I could be wrong. -Paul
It’s dual motor, so both wheels drive the scooter, and yes it can wheelie, but not with me on it. I’m bad at wheelies. I always go to far and fall off the back. -Paul
I bought this for my daily commute, but the gx3 I bought was defective. The pin latch hole on the neck looks like it has a fracture that gotrax/manufacture rewelded, hammered and repainted. The pin DOES NOT go through the oblong hole (should be round). Please be careful in case you get one of these. I haven't heard from their support department and the people on the phone can't do anything about it. The c-clamp gets loose from the vibration of not being fully secure. THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY ISSUE. I can share any video or photos to anyone regarding the issue to add to your content.
Don't expect the tubes to be designed to to fit. And they are not under warranty: Parts not typically covered include but are not limited to: Brake pads Rotors spokes Tires/tubes Chains Chain rings Cassettes Crank-set Screws Fenders Keys
Just watched this video for a 3rd time and it's so well done. I enjoyed every minute of this video. Of the "big" reviews that I was looking forward to the first part of this year, two of them have been reviewed by ESG already. The GX3 and the Apollo Go being the first two. The 3rd as the NIU KQi 300X. There's really only one decent review out there but the reviewer really isn't a "scooter guy" and I believe it's his first one. In any case, hopefully NIU has sent you one. RUclips has been strangly quiet about this model, considering the success of the KQi3 Pro and Max. Looking forward to when you can post something on this scooter. My only slight hangups on the GX3 are the tubed tires and quite different throttle but those are not absolute deal breakers. I'm stuck between the GX3 and Solar FF Lite (2024 Update). Both are about the same price right now, with the GX3 being more all terrain with more sophisticated suspension and the FF Lite being a bit faster, 1380Wh battery, 15lbs lighter, self healing street tires and choice of thumb or twist throttle. While tire reliability and larger battery pull me toward the FF lite 2024, it's most similar to two sport scooters I have now, the RS5 Max and Mantis K GT. I don't own anything like the GX3 and don't have an 11" scooter. I'll have to give it a couple more days and just pick one. I could probably flip a coin and be happy with either.
You've got a great collection. The Mantis King GT should really get more attention than it does. Mitchell got to ride the KQi300X a little at a conference, but I don't know when or if we're getting one for a review. I've been playing around with the full carbon Air X lately and think it may need to join my permanent collection at some point because CARBON! How is the damping holding up on the Mantis King GT? One of the things I've found is that for many scooters (not so much the Mantis King GT) the hydraulic shocks get overwhelmed by the leverage of the suspension. I feel like the GX3 will do well in that regard since the shocks are almost at a 1:1 ratio with the movement of the axles. (the wheels don't have 3:1 leverage over the shock like most C shaped arrangements where the shock is in the middle of the C). I spent the day doing speed runs on the RS Midnight Light from Voro. I set a new stopping distance record with it because it's so long and low. But the shock damping is really overwhelmed by the leverage of the suspension. It needs twice as much shock as it has. -Paul
@@ESG-ElectricScooterGuide Well, thank you but you and ESG have the real collection!! The Mantis King GT has been quite good other than some suspension clunking when unloaded. I didn't figure out the source right away and ended up having to mod it with some shaped rubber bumpers a few months down the road. The stem tube has a little bit of flex but I'm sensitive to flexible stems. The adjustable rebound damping is nice but once I set it.. I haven't touched it since. The RS5 Max has been much a more solid and quiet scooter out of the box and feels more premium with an absolutely rigid stem system. It's also slightly faster, which wasn't expected. Oh...I set a distance record on it yesterday 71 miles (cruising at 16-20mph) with 45.5V remaining so 20% -ish left? It included stops and I was out 4:52min. The GPS showed 69.54miles and the odo. showed 72mi. I was in a 3-4 parking garages however and the GPS was likely loosing signal. I split the difference. So far, no felt difference in the damping on the Mantis but 98% of my miles are on road and I'm nice to my equipment. I'm about 190lbs with all my gear on. I don't doubt however that there is likely some measurable degradation as you point out, due to the leverage of these "middle placed" c-type swing arms. The 1:1 ratio of the GX's is very interesting and that never occurred to me until you mentioned in. You would know better than with your racing background I but I'm wondering how much of what you're feeling is insufficient shock damping vs. insufficient spring rate. My guess is that the spring rates are selected to allow for an amount of typical movement that correlates to the designed swing arc of the arms. It's also my guess that if the spring rates were increased for "track" type duties" useful suspension travel would be reduced but overall track performance would be increased with brake dive decreasing. Congrats on the new stopping distance record!
Really makes me feel uneasy they would advertise the scooter as tubeless when it's not. How could they mess that up without it being intentional? It's such an important feature for riders and makes a huge difference in the value of the scoot for me.
I don't see it advertised as tubeless on their site. The tires they're using are manufactured to be used without tubes, which is why they say tubeless on the outside of the tires. So the type of tire is tubeless, but they are using tubeless tires with tubes installed because the rims they're using aren't designed to run tubeless. I hope I didn't cause even more confusion here. -Paul
We haven't heard from Varla in a while. I think Mitchell may have done a review though, over at his RK9 channel. He does different testing over there though. -Paul
@@ESG-ElectricScooterGuide I did watch his video. He’s a great videographer and presenter. I just love the data that you all provide to the community and hope one day that scooter will have the same. :)
The P1 Pro has more raw speed and power. The GX3 is more refined, and easier to ride. They both have very different looks, of course. Both are a ton of fun. If you can never get enough speed, the P1 Pro is unbeatable for performance per dollar. If you love great suspension and 38mph is fast enough, then the GX3. For me, it sort of depends on what day it is. I really like both. -Paul
Could you review the Gotrax Ares? I was looking at the GX1 and like it. It's fast and affordable but I think it's too heavy for someone like me. I then resorted to the GMAX ULTRA and coincidentally they release Ares which seems like a good middle ground.
Gotrax website says the GX1, GX2 and GX3 all have a weight limit of 300lb but the GX1 I received has a sticker on the bottom that says 330lb, curious if the GX3 says the same?
If you download the user's manual off the website it has a data/spec sheet. I believe that the odds are that the user's manual spec sheet is most likely going to be the most correct. BTW on the GX3 it says 330lbs for the max load.
Seems decent enough. I'm really hoping that NIU will move upmarket and release a dual motor performance scooter. I like their scooters and they have some innovative designs and features but I need something with a bit more power than what they currently offer.
@@ESG-ElectricScooterGuide Yeah, they've really got the art of lightweight but durable just about perfected. I'd love to see a 40+ mph dual motor with decent range that weighs in a flat 50 pounds without doing something goofy like having tiny wheels or one brake.
@@Captain_Kickass-l1f Unfortunately we won't see that specification in this current era of battery and motor tech. You currently need about 2200W to go 40mph on a scooter. So while everything you mentioned is cool, you'll typically need 52V to 60V scooters with corresponding appropriate battery sizes... at least 20Ah at 52V or 18Ah at 60V (which means range will suffer, so manufacturers typically go larger. The lightest scooters hitting 40mph are about 66lbs using all lightweight aluminum chassis and quad spring front ends. Go to the superior C-Type suspensions and they're typically coming in from 70-75lbs in scooters like the Mantis King GT and Solar FF Lite. That stated, I'd also like to see NIU's version of the Apollo Go. Something that goes 27-30mph but has a bit more range to it. Apollo could have added 25% more battery capacity to the Go model for about 2lbs additional weight and with minimal additional cost, perhaps $100 or so. Unfortunately they didn't and so the Go lacks the versatility it could have easily had. Perhaps NIU will would bring us a 50-ish pound, lightweight dual motor with 25mi of ESG tested range. I'd buy one in a heartbeat. Likewise, if Apollo did a "Max" version of the Go, I'd buy that in a heartbeat. There are hardly any choices in lightweight dual motor, mid performance scooters. The manufacturers are really missing this boat in this area. In the case of the VX4 they basically gave it dual motor performance and then missed educated scooter buyers with a 24mph top speed. The VSETT 8+ used to be a fantastic scooter but the design is archaic now.
@@Patriot36 you're almost certainly correct. I guess it doesn't matter what kind of exotic materials you wind up using, there's no way to achieve 40 miles an hour and decent range at only 50 lb. i thought Dualtron made something like a limited edition spider 2 or something that got close but I can't remember exactly.
I just sold my KQi3 Max and will be waiting for the GX2 to have a REALLY good sale. Similar to what you said, I would love to see a dual motor NIU with a suspension and beefier tires. My preference would be to make their KQi3 Max motor (900 peak/450 sustained) into a dual setup, with a front fork & rear shock, and 10x3 tubeless that can handle a bit more than perfect pavement. I don't need 38mph, I just want confidence on inclines and mild terrain.
Can I get a few recommendations? I'm a truck driver. So I end up stuck in truck stop parking lots A-LOT. A PEV sounds like a perfect answer to allow me to access local shops I otherwise wouldn't be able to get to. Like many drivers I'm a little bigger guy. 250ish lbs. So I would need something fairly rugged, and capable but also decently compact and not too heavy since I'd have to lift and store it inside the truck. I'm looking for a Unicorn I suppose. A Dual motor scooter, with all terrain tires, decent range, while also being under 65lbs.
The GX1/GX2 are probably closer to what you're looking for, as they are closer to what you want weight-wise while being dual motor and trail capable. If you're looking for dual motor transport and you're not worried about longer range, then the GX1 is probably your best bet; the biggest improvement the GX2 will give you over the GX1 is increased range (if the few additional MPH don't do anything for your use case).
You can get the solar p1 3.0 for $1200 which is a pretty good option for the price. If you want under $1000, than a segway Ninebot max is what you want, but you can’t go faster than 18mph I think
I have a segway MAX G2 and though i really like it i would go the GX1 route because its dual motors and you'll definitely appreciate the extra power for inclines.
Could you do the Gotrax G7? Oddly the scooter came out about a month ago but its like it doesn't even exist. I can't find a single review on it but the Ares a week old already has reviews. I'd also like to see the Ares too aswell, most reviews don't go as in depth as you.
Thank you so much! I don't think we have either of those two in the plan right now, which means it will be at least three months from now if we did get them. I really appreciate you letting us know about your interest in these. This is really how scooters get on our radar and get bumped up the list. Several people have asked about the Ares in the comments here. -Paul
I am actually mindblown that so many of these higher end scooters have no adequate IP protection, I mean IP54? Really? it will break if you get water damage, it's not an indoor vehicle so why not protect it from the rain? this should be an industry standard, these vehicles are used by many people to commute to work, good IP protection is a must.
Great review! I bought a gx1 mainly bc of your review on it. I do have a question though.. how do I add pre damping on the gx1? Do I want the springs to be tighter or expanded? Thanks
@@ESG-ElectricScooterGuide I have a gx1. When I get on it, it almost seems like I'm using 50% of the shock just by standing on it. I'm wondering if making the springs tighter at a static stance, or more expanded at a static stance would accommodate so that when I stepped on the scooter it would have more than 50% travel remaining to absurd bumps.
@@ESG-ElectricScooterGuide well, NVM. I found a great video on motorcycle pre load that explained it. But hey, that's a good content idea for you since I haven't been able to find a video specifically on scooter pre load! And for anyone else reading this, I found that the heavier you are, the more pre load is needed. And pre load is basically making the springs shorter, or tighter at a static stance (the scooter without you on it).
Just purchased mine today. Any idea on estimated days it takes to arrive. It says 3-5 days on average but I'm not sure. Thanks for the review btw. Really appreciate it. I'm super stoked
It arrived today. Definitely looks better in person. It's a beast for sure. Took it for a ride. You can feel the dual motors working as well as the suspension. it rides smooth
We haven’t tested the Kugoo scooters, but the NIU scooters are super high quality scooters and have a two year warranty, so of those two I’d go NIU. -Paul
That's interesting. I know some people really love solid tires, but the old solid tires on the Pegasus were my least favorite thing about it. (we still have the one from the review here). Thanks so much for the heads-up. Our comments section is awesome! -Paul
Sorry, the "final" draft was perfect, but somehow the audio got messed up between the last version I saw and the version which was uploaded. I'm heartbroken over it, because this might be my favorite video I've worked on. -Paul
No app is a selling point for me. Recent reviews on new scooter releases from ESG have shown me that companies are capable of making much better displays than the manufacturer special of the past which just included a basic speedometer and charge indicator. The only thing missing that an app can "solve" seems to be GPS which is easily fixed by purchasing an airtag or similar and finding a secure mount location. But the negatives of scooters that adopt apps seem to be innumerable (loss of core functionality without phone, anti consumer privacy policies, excuse for manufacturers to push features past the release date of a product, opening the door for overly monetizing "services" that shouldn't warrant additional costs, and more...).
I agree. I really feel like you should always be able to do 99% of the stuff the scooter can do without an app. The one thing I think they are really handy for is firmware updates if needed. -Paul
i purchased this scooter because of your great review and im regretting it. the rubber on the deck seemed like it was used, the handlebar had a scratch on the side, and both brakes randomly rub and produce a high pitched clanking noise. gotrax support is trash, i call them and no answer so i worry if i ever need to utilize the "warranty"... gotrax has taught me a very expensive lesson that before purchasing anything that cost over $1000, i should google the company's name and the term customer support to see what others are saying.. for a scooter i purchased a month ago this noise is unacceptable...they should of gave me a discount for purchasing a used unit! i should of purchased an apollo scooter, I've heard great things about their support. if you purchase this unit i hope you have a better experience than me besides those annoyances the scooter is very fun to ride.
It on paper looks like hybrid on the best scooters. It has 28mph close to the GX1 30mph and dual motor and suspension. It has similar controls and switchable gear like the GX1, GMax, and G(Number) series. And it has the Ironically huge display as the much cheaper Apex series. It has 0 to stop which I like, using kick to start scooters is so aggravating. I just hope it doesn't have the auto parking mode like the GX series which I don't know if it does.
I don't know of any group rides but look up Intro2Speed Bay Area. They get together and race in Alameda. Super fun, even if you just come out to hang out. -Paul
Need help with this one. I am new to Escooters I sold my Onewheel Gts so I could get two scooters for my wife and I instead. I ordered a GX1 for my wife and me a GX3 Will I be disappointed in not looking at something like a Solar P1?
nice specs though curious why the downgrade from the lower models to tubed tires. Rocking my hover 1 journey max and may upgrade to a $2k range scooter in the fall, and tubed tires are on the list of things i consider a deal breaker.
I’ve been doing a lot of research on electric scooters and I was wondering what you guys would recommend for me. I’m looking for something under 700 dollars and durable. Thanks!
Wow, second request in the last three comments! I'll definitely ask about it, but if we get one, it will be at least three months before we could review it. We have a huge backlog of scooters to test right now. -Paul
I wish you could turn off the 2 small headlights on the side of the scooter. I ride only in the day and i feel like those 2 lights alone drain a lot of the battery.
Outstanding review, Paul. I just wanted to reinforce that the longer format is fantastic. Please keep doing this as the additional information is fantastic. 10:20 I had to listen to this three time to make sure that I understood correctly but it's really disappointing that the GX3 has tubed tires. I'm hoping that the wheels will accept a tubeless tire because that's a pretty significant downgrade from the GX2. Another thing that's odd to me is that GoTrax can't seem to get their act together with regards to the technical specs on their website. While listed as 94 lbs, thanks to ESG, we know that the weight is 7lbs less than specified, which is a good thing. On their website they still specific a "thumb throttle" which is obviously different from what your unit shipped with. Another oddity is the "54V 25ah (1350Wh)" (specified on their website) battery but there is no cell counts that adds up to 54V, it's either 48, 52, 56 (very rare) or 60V. Well, if the voltage is indeed 52V and it's a 25Ah then that's 1300Wh, not 1350Wh as listed. If it's 48V and 25Ah then that's 1200Wh... not "1210Wh." In future review, it would be helpful if we could have the working voltage of the scooter stated / verified... since the manufacturer doesn't seem to be capable of doing so, not to mention that's a fairly basic and important spec when it comes to any PEV. Thanks again and thanks for the ESG discount.
Thank you so much. That means a lot coming from you! It's amazing how often manufacturers are off on weights. I was shocked when I measured Hover-1's ACE R350 and R350 and they agreed with my scale to within 1/10th of a pound. The battery thing was surprising. I checked the website, checked the owner's manual and checked the sticker on the scooter and they all said different things. The sticker on the scooter seemed like the most official source, so I went with that. Both the charger and the sticker on the scooter specify 58.8V max, which is the hallmark of a 52V scooter. So that also made me trust the sticker as the source of truth. -Paul
We would go with the phantom! It’s very solid and comes with app and excellent suspension and dedicated regen brake. Check out link for sale pricing geni.us/ApolloPhantomV3 and use code RIDERGUIDE for $50 off
Hey Paul, thanks again for the great review! I was vacillating between the FF Lite (2024) and the GX3. After watching your review for the 5th time, I went with the scooter that was lease like others that I already have and that ended up being the GX3! While I have a RS5 Max, Mantis King GT, VSETT 8+, Cruiser S, KQi3 Max, and some less sporty commuters, this is my first 11" scooter. Using code ESG100 it was $1699 + tax, which I think is a heck of a buy for the equipment spec. on this scooter. The GX3 suspension feels more sophisticated than the Mantis King GT, having slightly better overall feel during the 6-8 miles I've had it off road and a place that I've ridden the King GT quite a bit. It's neat that it also holds its own it's own with the other sport scooters on the pavement. I mean, it's obviously not as fast as the RS5 Max or Mantis but it's still torquey and fun. When street riding, you don't feel like you're missing anything and I'm more prone to short cutting across grass and dirt lots to connect points. I performed a 51mi GPS (52.3mi on odo) range test with it yesterday evening, finishing at 45.8v or 20-ish% useful voltage remaining and averaging 15.6mph. I'm 195lbs with my gear and pack and spent 90% of my time in 1st gear. I'm guessing it would do another 5mi based on my other 52V experience. One small issue is the throttle. There's a "hitch / hick-up" near the beginning of the throttle travel that hits close to a 100% power in the first few millimeters of travel (it would be alarming to a novice). Once I pull the trigger past this particular sport, there's a proper neutral zone and after that a linear, proper, expected progression of power output. I'm guessing it's just the lever itself and I've already submitted a warranty claim... we'll see how that goes. Anyhow, I'm at about 80 miles now and taking it out for another range ride tomorrow morning. Thanks for the work you put into this review!
I’ve done that one more than a dozen times on a motorcycle. If I’m wearing full armor (in my case an Aerostich riding suit), then I usually bounce right back up, sometimes with sore ribs depending on how I hit the ground. At above 15 mph, it’s really best to wear a full-face helmet and full protective gear because you can no longer bail out and run once riding beyond 15mph. -Paul P.S. in about an hour I’m leaving to do a speed run on a scooter which claims to go 68mph.
I’m pretty new to the scooter industry but I didn’t know about the firmware speed limiter. You’re right Paul, it should go wayyy faster than 38 mph that Gotrax advertised! Is it possible for gotrax to maybe increase the speed a little??
So sorry about that. We're heartbroken that we didn't catch this mistake. We went through 6 rounds of edits on this one. Version 6 was perfect when we reviewed the footage, but we all missed version 6-A. :-( -Paul
It would be a good $1,399 scooter. Definitely not worth $2k. I have GX2, and it’s overpriced too (Should be $999, GX1 at $849). I now ride a Maxfun 10 Pro, and at only $1,799 it smokes the GX3.
I think if this had a thumb throttle, tubeless tires, hit 40 mph, traveled 30 miles and was priced at like $1799 I would get it. Right now I'm leaning towards the Wolf Warrior X since it is on sale and you can option a thumb throttle plus it's $1749 right now. The last review said you had to change the speed mode every time you turn it on, but they changed some things and I've not seen anyone review the updated machine yet.
I wish I had a few days to test ride random scooters! Unfortunately every minute is scheduled, so we can do the most testing and still crank out a reasonable number of videos! We wish we could have people come play though! -Paul
Tubed tires are easier to change. I've grown to hate tubeless tires because it's almost impossible to change. Tires are the part that wear out first and wears out the most.
@@marshapelo9830 to each their own, when you got over three flats in a month from tubes tires your opinion might vary, I have tubeless self healing tires on my solar ff lite I don’t have to worry about getting flats anymore . @@ESG-ElectricScooterGuide It's not work if you love your job!
Or so I hear.
I think you posted a video about it right? -Paul

-Paul
I can relate. Absolutely terrible customer support in my experience
I’m really happy you got to test a GX3. You were in the GX1 one in GX2 for six months now. I bet you were super stoked.
That scooter is a beast for sure. Good thing that GoTrax brought out a cheaper dual motor scooter. I hope to see you guys review the GoTrax Ares.

Does it burn through a set of brake pads every 400 miles like my GX1 does?

How do you get to the battery on the GX3? Can you buy a spare one?
Here's what they said " Hi Dear,
Sorry for the inconvenience, but the battery was out of stock now , it may need about 1-2 month then it will back in stock ,and it's LG battery , $370 for the battery. thanks a lot.

Does the GX3 have a USB port in the power controller like the GX1/GX2?
Great question! No, I've looked closely and don't see one anywhere. -Paul
-Paul

@@ESG-ElectricScooterGuide ok thanks !!! And also do you think that I could ride in rain or not at all ???
My next High-end Scooter will be the Gotrax GX3 for sure next summer
Mr. Paul Sir,
Firstly, I would just like to say that I love your reviews and the whole ESG crew!
-Paul
Just bought a GOTRAX GX2 because of you!! I'll need to save up for riding gear before
Great , enjoy your new ride.
is it front and rear wheel drive? and can it wheelie??
It’s dual motor, so both wheels drive the scooter, and yes it can wheelie, but not with me on it. I’m bad at wheelies. I always go to far and fall off the back. -Paul
@@ESG-ElectricScooterGuide i really appreciate your response
The size of those tires says it all. I could see this used in various industrial applications, and farming, land curation etc.
Thanks for the feedback! May be a one off as we didn’t hear of these issues.
The gx3 is no longer on gotrax’s website, is something up? Out of stock?
I see it. Are you outside the US?

Is the battery removable? / swappable
No. It's not. -Paul
-Paul
Id love to see what you guys rate the Varla Eagle One v2. It’s a goofy name but there is no tested data.
How would you compare this to a Solar P1 Pro
We don't have the Ares in the plan, but thanks for asking about it. We'll see if we can get one eventually. -Paul
Thank you for this information. It was extremely informative and I have now purchased the GX3.
Glad it was helpful!
Gotrax website says the GX1, GX2 and GX3 all have a weight limit of 300lb but the GX1 I received has a sticker on the bottom that says 330lb, curious if the GX3 says the same?
Funny. I happen to have that photo up on my phone right now and you're correct. The sticker says 330lbs! -Paul
It's so overdue right? We've been thinking the same thing. -Paul
Thanks for the video. Where is that waterfront location?
That's in Alameda, CA. There's a huge park there. Ramier drove, so I don't remember exactly where. -Paul

Why do you crouch down when your going fast? Does it make the scooter easier to control?
@@phugcvit’s harder to control but it decreases wind resistance.
Just get the gx3. 87lbs isn’t as heavy as you think.
This is going to be the best bang for your buck by far.
What's the best full suspension neme brand scooter under 1000 dollars?
You can get the solar p1 3.0 for $1200 which is a pretty good option for the price. If you want under $1000, than a segway Ninebot max is what you want, but you can’t go faster than 18mph I think
GX1 is hard to beat, on sale for $999
I will consider
I have a segway MAX G2 and though i really like it i would go the GX1 route because its dual motors and you'll definitely appreciate the extra power for inclines.
I really think I'm gonna upgrade from my G3 plus very soon.
Use code ESG100 for $100 off while it lasts
I have one and have put over 120 miles on it and it is great. Wish the throttle was more subtle at the beginning. Also my brakes squeak.

Why do you crouch down when your going fast? Does it make it easier to control?
It lowers wind resistance and lowers your center of gravity which makes you go faster
Faster speed!
Thanks
Depends on your weight!
@@ESG-ElectricScooterGuide I'm on the heavier side.
@@ESG-ElectricScooterGuide I have a gx1. When I get on it, it almost seems like I'm using 50% of the shock just by standing on it. @@ESG-ElectricScooterGuide well, NVM. I found a great video on motorcycle pre load that explained it. But hey, that's a good content idea for you since I haven't been able to find a video specifically on scooter pre load! That's interesting. I know some people really love solid tires, but the old solid tires on the Pegasus were my least favorite thing about it. (we still have the one from the review here). Thanks so much for the heads-up. Our comments section is awesome! -Paul
Why is the audio only left side and so quiet?
Sorry, the "final" draft was perfect, but somehow the audio got messed up between the last version I saw and the version which was uploaded. I'm heartbroken over it, because this might be my favorite video I've worked on. -Paul
@@ESG-ElectricScooterGuide sorry for sounding so rude
-Paul
How do you unlock it? NFC card?
Yea
@ESG-ElectricScooterGuide Weird never saw it in unboxing videos
i purchased this scooter because of your great review and im regretting it. the rubber on the deck seemed like it was used, the handlebar had a scratch on the side, and both brakes randomly rub and produce a high pitched clanking noise. gotrax support is trash, i call them and no answer so i worry if i ever need to utilize the "warranty"...
gotrax has taught me a very expensive lesson that before purchasing anything that cost over $1000, i should google the company's name and the term customer support to see what others are saying..
for a scooter i purchased a month ago this noise is unacceptable...they should of gave me a discount for purchasing a used unit! i should of purchased an apollo scooter, I've heard great things about their support. if you purchase this unit i hope you have a better experience than me
besides those annoyances the scooter is very fun to ride.
Thanks for the feedback! Appreciated
What's the water ratings on it
Light rain should be fine!
The new Gotrax Ares seems nice. Its seems to have the best of both worlds. Id love to see a video on it
I was looking at that and it seems so close in price to the GX1 on sale for $999, What do you like better about the Ares than the GX1? -Paul
Do you know any group rides in the east bay? I live in San Leandro. Thanks.
I don't know of any group rides but look up Intro2Speed Bay Area. They get together and race in Alameda. Super fun, even if you just come out to hang out. -Paul
I live in oakland. we could start something!
Need help with this one. I am new to Escooters
I sold my Onewheel Gts so I could get two scooters for my wife and I instead.
I ordered a GX1 for my wife and me a GX3
Will I be disappointed in not looking at something like a Solar P1?
Both are solid options for sure!
nice specs though curious why the downgrade from the lower models to tubed tires. Rocking my hover 1 journey max and may upgrade to a $2k range scooter in the fall, and tubed tires are on the list of things i consider a deal breaker.
Not sure! Some like it some don’t
Will you guys review the mukuta 10+? Looks pretty good!
Unfortunately we don't have one in the plan right now. -Paul
Thanks Paul, very good review!
My pleasure!
I’ve been doing a lot of research on electric scooters and I was wondering what you guys would recommend for me. I’m looking for something under 700 dollars and durable. Thanks!
Check out our cheap scooters video!
Can on road tires be damaged by going off road?
Depends on the terrain
Gravel perhaps?
No. It will just be slippery.
I wonder why GoTrax didn't try to target 40mph?
It’s a good question. It has enough power to go a legit 40mph, but maybe they were going for 60kph and over-shot a little. -Paul
Please review the new Gotrax Ares
Wow, second request in the last three comments! I'll definitely ask about it, but if we get one, it will be at least three months before we could review it. We have a huge backlog of scooters to test right now. -Paul
Helpful video I was thinking i would keep the gmax ultra forever but after seeing the performance i lowkey might upgrade!
Solid choice for sure!
I wish you could turn off the 2 small headlights on the side of the scooter. I ride only in the day and i feel like those 2 lights alone drain a lot of the battery.
Good point! They seem fairly small.... but definitely a draw. -Paul
-Paul
Apollo phantom v4 or this?
We would go with the phantom! It’s very solid and comes with app and excellent suspension and dedicated regen brake. Check out link for sale pricing geni.us/ApolloPhantomV3 and use code RIDERGUIDE for $50 off
@@ESG-ElectricScooterGuide nice! Thanks for reply
You know we've come a long way if GoTrax has a Scooter with 11 inch tires 😅
I know what you mean. A couple years ago I couldn't imagine a dual motor Gotrax, and now this! -Paul
How to properly charge a electric scooter can u tell me
Plug in to wall first the charger , then into the scooter second.
Very good review thank u!
If this scooter come with matt navy blue colour with red gotrax logo its my absolute favourite 😇😎
Just dark teal green for now. -Paul
Try out the Gotrax Ares. It's looks promising.
Thanks so much for the suggestion. The Ares is getting a lot of love in the comments section and I'll definitely look into it! -Paul
Beautiful views of the Bay Area. Much better views than south Florida.
Thanks very much for your support!
How about review some of the hyper scooter of the WEPED brand from korea?
They are a boutique brand! No real support or mass production.
Been trying to order mine for the past 3 weeks! Still out of stock!
Hopefully very soon!
@@ESG-ElectricScooterGuideback in stock! ORDERED!!
IS THERE “SEAT” ATTACHMENT FOR GX3?….
Not that we are aware of
my left ear really liked this video.
lol
my left ear loves this
lol haha
You guys should review the Hover-1 Renegade dual motors for only 399.
More hover-1 pro series coming soon. R350 and R450 are next
I would love to try this out in the Philippines i think it would be great going to these small islands
Definitely! -Paul
Can you do a test where you fall off at 38mph?
What’s that like on a scooter?
I’ve done that one more than a dozen times on a motorcycle. If I’m wearing full armor (in my case an Aerostich riding suit), then I usually bounce right back up, sometimes with sore ribs depending on how I hit the ground.
At above 15 mph, it’s really best to wear a full-face helmet and full protective gear because you can no longer bail out and run once riding beyond 15mph. -Paul
P.S. in about an hour I’m leaving to do a speed run on a scooter which claims to go 68mph.
@@ESG-ElectricScooterGuide Can you film that? it would be a great video.
I’m pretty new to the scooter industry but I didn’t know about the firmware speed limiter. You’re right Paul, it should go wayyy faster than 38 mph that Gotrax advertised! Is it possible for gotrax to maybe increase the speed a little??
Drives me crazy when scooter reviewers take their hands off the handlebars at speed. Stop it so we can see your Gx4 review please.
Noted! Thank you
I'm not getting audio then I read it's only comnig from the left side and .... I'm deaf in my left ear.... lol
So sorry about that. We're heartbroken that we didn't catch this mistake. We went through 6 rounds of edits on this one. Version 6 was perfect when we reviewed the footage, but we all missed version 6-A. :-( -Paul
@@ESG-ElectricScooterGuide love your content guys. Just letting you know guys. Keep it up!
It would be a good $1,399 scooter. Definitely not worth $2k. I have GX2, and it’s overpriced too (Should be $999, GX1 at $849). I now ride a Maxfun 10 Pro, and at only $1,799 it smokes the GX3.
How is the suspension? Hydraulic damping? Adjustable? -Paul
Very nice !
Thank you! Cheers!
Nami Burn E2 Max over everything!!!!!!! 🙃🙃🙃🙃
Who do i have to brown nose to be allowed to come to your facility and spend a few days just test riding scooters?
I wish I had a few days to test ride random scooters! Unfortunately every minute is scheduled, so we can do the most testing and still crank out a reasonable number of videos! We wish we could have people come play though! -Paul
When are you gonna make a video on the Hover-1 pro series boss scooters? Be the first to do it.
Hover-1 Pro series Ace 350 and Ace 450 are coming next -Paul
Don't forget the boss r500 as well
Tube tires is a downgrade, honestly doesn’t seem like much of an upgrade from gx2 ! besides the display , horn & blinkers , bigger battery.
Thanks for your feedback!
gotta agree tubed tires on a 2k scooter is kinda bs when the cheaper models have tubeless makes no sense
@@vladstad8102 my exact thoughts, such b.s. and they should of capped the speed at 40 mph instead of 38 mph .
They are both hard to change to me . I take my scooter to the local shop lol
