    It’s a good method for single check-ins. One of my professors used it and automated it with Google sheets which made him incorrectly credit attendance. He gave three excuses absences but didn’t account for those or the days that he didn’t take attendance due to weather. Also it’s easy to game the system you can either forward the code to someone else, or the “word of the day” as my professor used. True attendance is best taken by the instructor or not taken at all.

      @MrsPTarleton  5 месяцев назад

      @brayan8346 thank you for the feedback. The great thing about Google Forms is it generates the Google sheet automatically. Yes there is always a way to cheat the system...even when I physically take attendance and then count heads to be sure all accurate...on rare occasions I'll have students insist they were there and I made a mistake. Cheaters gonna Cheat.

    I have a few questions was trying to do something like this for our bus monitors , to scan the kids school ID (which already has a barcode) when they get on the bus and scan it when they get off, and then look at the google sheet to show , well little johnny never sign out he must fell asleep on the bus... so more like a sign in/sign out google sheet?? any suggestions >

      I'm not sure how you could scan the barcode. I'm wondering if the students can enter their student ID number as the entered and exited. Would that work?

    Great tips! Anything to make attendance go more quickly! BUT - if I post it on Google Classroom, is there a way to keep them from completing the form if they're not actually in class? The QR code involves their phones, which we're trying to do away with.

    • @MrsPTarleton
      @MrsPTarleton  11 месяцев назад

      @jenniferlewis3895 I've tried posting QR code in class, so they have to scan in person, but I still get the occasional slick one who has a picture of it that they scan from home. That's why I count to be sure the same number checking in are also in class. Cell phones are a constant battle. We have a no cell policy also, and I have them put away after they check in. Most comply.
      I already had to use the behavior tracker because after multiple warnings about cell to class there was one who insisted on sneaking it out. Luckily I just made a copy of last year's and made a couple edits.

    • @MrsPTarleton
      @MrsPTarleton  Год назад +1

      @kristoffer You could do conditional formatting to color code Google Sheets to help you see who is absent. Or another option is to sort the sheet based on who is absent.

      I’m looking for the same. No response yet. I have 260 per day day. I think this is great; but not being able to track who isn’t in class will make this form incomplete

      @@MrsPTarletonhow do you do this?

    • @MrsPTarleton
      @MrsPTarleton  10 месяцев назад

      @PescesKitchen you need to set up conditional formatting which is ki d of clunky or a V look up and it will show you who is absent.

      Yes, when you create your sheet you can choose to gather data in new sheet or existing sheet.

    • @MrsPTarleton

      You can do a Vlookup which would probably be the best way to mark absent students.

    Does this work even if for example we do not have internet connection for that specific day?

    • @MrsPTarleton
      @MrsPTarleton  10 месяцев назад

      @ariahkali7392 Unfortunately, Google Forms is cloud based and needs internet to work. My students all seem to have cells so I'd have them do that if ok with parents, and I'd log in the 1 or 2 who do not have cells.

    • @MrsPTarleton

    • @cristinaiftode9421
      @cristinaiftode9421 10 месяцев назад +1

      I verified and any of the previous QR codes can be used to sign in the same form used to generate the codes, if multiple answers are allowed. So there is really no justification to create one new QR code for each class meeting, unless the codes are linked to new forms (one per class meeting) with the requirement of 1 response only per form.

    I don't understand how this helps with attendance. It seems that with this system I will have a spreadsheet telling me who came to class at what time. But I need to know who did not come to class. So next I would have to check this spreadsheet against a full list of students to determine who did not come. Hence, I believe it would be simpler and faster simply to call roll and mark the absent students as I go. Is there something I have missed about this? If not, does anyone know of an app where I can enter the full class list, and then use a QR code in a similar way as described here, but whereby I can see who did not attend? Thanks in advance.

    • @MrsPTarleton
      @MrsPTarleton  11 месяцев назад

      @daniel for me I sort students by name and period, so it's a quick glance down my roster to see who is missing. You've got me thinking of ways to get the absent students highlighted. I've got some ideas I'll need to try. Thank you for the feedback.

    • @MrsPTarleton
      @MrsPTarleton  10 месяцев назад +1

      @daniel I've looked into this and the easiest way to do what you are asking is with a VLOOKUP it will be time consuming to set up for 180+ days of school but you'd be able to use it year after year.

      You can use it daily as there is a time stamp for each entry. You may want to make a separate one for each week or month depending on the size of your classes and label them with the date range to easily organize.

    How to include time in and time out?

    • @MrsPTarleton
      @MrsPTarleton  5 месяцев назад

      Time in is listed on the spreadsheet on the far left. To get time out you'd have to enter a separate question for them to also sign out.
