It represents no more 'ull' because were being flooded with 'alrite boss its bran like nu init' types from the continent. they're changing OUR city without OUR say.
Excellent video. I went to Hull university and graduated in 2013 and I miss it already. Hull is a inhibitionless honest city with very unassuming and loyal people. Yes to Hull! Greetings from Estonia
Unbelievable how negative people can be about something so great as a city that has it's eyes and hopes on the future and its heart and personality respectfully connected to its historical past. If you don't like it get out, and leave space for those who want to be here, love being here and want to be part of Hull's future success. I'm from Hull and Glasgow!
Wonderful, evocative video, expressing the essence - indeed the "resonance" - of Hull. I came Hull 16 years and stayed. It is my home. Where I belong. The place I care for like no other. This is our time. #HullYes #ImfromLondonandfromHull @2017Hull
I left Hull 30 years ago, I have lived in many cities in Britain and abroad and they all have good and bad parts. My home now is Germany and my city is Munich a very cosmopolitan city visited every day by people from all-over the world that contribute to the city's economy, if being the city of culture brings people from all-over the world to Hull and helps the economy of a city that was once voted the worst place in Britain then you are on to a winner. I left thirty years ago but there are people who stayed to try and make Hull a better place for everyone and to those people I take my hat off and say thankyou.
I have been staying in Hull since last 2 months & I am already in love with this beautiful city ! Though we haven't got the experience to experience the true culture due to lockdown, I still love it. Can't wait to see Hull all alive once we are out of lockdown !! Amazing video
To be honest those posting negative comments because we aren't highlighting the bad points about Hull, they are typical Hull comments. As a people we've always played ourselves down, we never seem to focus on the positives alone and because of that we allow others to knock us down all the time. Why would we try to win the city of culture by highlighted negative points, you just wouldn't. Everywhere has bad places but they shun those areas and promote the best of what they have, so why shouldn't we. #HullYes
For any reasonable person that travells and lived in different cities or countries, Hull is a dull, "nothing-to-do place", full of ignorant people. The only attractive side of Hull is how cheap it is. Because there is low demand for literally anything. OK, also there is surprisingly decent University for such place. The only people that truly love it, are local lowlifes that never travelled further than Doncaster in their lifetime, or migrants that do low paid jobs and are too scared to change anything. No matter where you go, you lose nothing by leaving Hull. There is no much strong sides, if any. I understand that there is hardship anywhere, but if you put an all round average person in Hull, there is a high chance that he will end up poorly
Brilliant video. I've grown up my entire life in Hull and I've been to a lot of places in the UK and there is nowhere else quite like it. A lot of people seem to find it very easy to come on here and make a hell of a lot of cruel judgement's as people not from Hull and people from in and around Hull. I grew up on Bransholme, a huge council estate and got moved to a small village in the east riding, and I can honestly say the people, the sense of community and the general every day kindness was much more apparent to me and my family in Hull than it was in what people would consider to be a 'nice' 'idyllic' village. Hull is progressing and changing and the arts is appreciated here more than ever before. I honestly don't care about peoples outside opinions that they build without even really experiencing what Hull has to offer. I know from living here that it can be a brilliant place, and this video makes me proud of it :)
#YesHull so proud, happy and over the moon, well done the organising team for this bid. Seriously can not wait for the next fours living in Hull, going to be so amazing x
I visited Hull for the 1st time with my boyfriend a week ago and I loved it! People were really nice and such a cool vibe. We're going back again and I'm going to share this video on my blog that's all about my visit to Hull :)
hull is a good place to be. i was born in hessle and now live on beverly road in hull and i love the place. i am proud to say i am from hull and everone should be.
Fantastic video and rightful winner of the uk city of culture. It was simple and brought the message like derry bid for this years city of culture to bring everyone together!!
It seems to be the people who have moved to Hull who are more positive about the place, rather then those who have lived here all there lives and are unaware of the bad things that happen in other cities! #Backthebid #WeAreHull
I totally agree with that! Its like people who have always lived in Hull and don't go to other cities much think its only Hull that has drunks on the street or burglary problems, or drug problems, when that kinda stuff happens in every big city in the UK, and the world haha
Bryony EPS i been round the world been to some nice citys but hull is the best city have you been to hull b4? and all city have problems and yes just see what the people from hull have done for the rest of the world like amy johnson william wilberforce and more
Agree, but I wouldn't say everyone from Hull are negative about the city. I live in Hull and was born here I think it's a great place and fed up of other city's putting us down mostly in the south near London which to be honest I'd say is the worst place to be. (I've always let people know I'm from Hull, even my channel, G+ & FaceBook shows Queens Gardens)
Well done Hull……….This is your time. I came from Birmingham 10 years ago and never left. Hull is my home and Im very proud to live here. In 10 years Hull has changed so much and only for the better. "This City Belongs to Everyone"
Having lived in London for 13 years I must admit I was apprehensive of moving back to Hull due to finances - I can safely say it is a great city, with a great homegrown culture which is fueled by independent creative people. It is so hard for culture to flourish in our ever increasingly expensive identikit cities, this is what makes Hull stand out...It has the highest percentage of students staying on to make a life here than any other university city, which must mean something :-)
95,475 views and this film is becoming a minor cult on You Tube. It captures pride, beauty, authenticity and culture of Hull and its people. Many tears shed. My favourite moment are the Rules of Hull and Elephants walking in a shopping arcade. Truly quirky Hullness.
I am very proud to be from Hull on this a truly great day for our fine city!!! the tides are indeed turning and we will finally be noticed for all of the good and not just for the bad. This clip really encapsulates the unique feeling of the spirit and vibrancy here
Actually quite excited to see how much the City will grow and change because of the #Hull2017 City of Culture! Boost in economy, jobs and its a brilliant way to teach the younger generation about the diverse culture we celebrate!!!!
Congratulations Hull! What a wonderful and thought provoking/emotional video this is. I lived in Hull many years a go and my granddad always said "Hull has always brought a future and good luck to our family" I'm living in London at the moment, and hopefully in the next year or so I can return to Hull. No city or town in the UK is perfect, but Hull is special in so many ways and certainly does have a future it just needs this help and further government funding to give it a push and add some life back into it.
They say Hull "is full of people who left and came back and those who never left at all" Im proud today of my city and will be until the day I die well done everybody.

I think some commenters having been to hull in a few years and stick the negative stereotype of hull. Am in hull every weekend and as a art student it is a city of culture and inspiration
Did not see that one coming!, i had to read 5 news articles to believe it. I am from the other side of the river, and everything in that video makes Hull look so different. Could add my negative comments but think we have all had enough of negative.
Well done nova studios Epic Hull in 4 minutes is not easy but pulled off admirably. 2 quotes come to mind Carl Andre for the good burgers of Hull "art is what we do, culture is what is done to us" and for the knockers and the haters Oscar Wilde's "We are all in the gutter but some of us look to the stars". Good luck!
This video paints a different picture to how I and the majority of people see Hull, however it does have a few good things, albeit not many. The video is pointing out positives, it doesn't say there is nothing bad about Hull... It's just highlighting the good things. Constantly claiming that hull is a bad place to live is not going to improve anything whereas videos like this could make change happen, for the better.
Lets not forget the unofficial poet laureate of Hull Edward Walter Smith "Eddie smith" (of the gargoyles, the beatles and the rolling stones). Like most UK cities, you show some culture in Hull and it'll cost you a limb, some blood and some time in a hospital bed. On the BBC website about Hull winning, Maria Miller spoke about what made Hull win, and with what she said, you'd be forgiven for thinking that she was talking about Dundee, which makes me think that the possibility of Scottish Independence in 2014 cost Dundee big time. Every city has problems, and problematic people, but it isn't what defines it as a city. What defines us is the determination and perseverance to be happy.people from Hull 'get on with it' no matter what the situation is. I'm proud to come from a city that doesn't back down to adversity. The powers that be do nothing good for the city, but the people do not care, as we all have each other, and the suits outside the city can swivel :)
I'm from Hull and I can say that it's certainly not the awful place it is protrayed to be by the media. Over the past 5-10 years there has definitely been an emerging cultural scene for music and the arts and that is great to see, as is all the positive support it's receiving! However I think that Hull has a long way to go before it could be deserving of this award. I understand that Hull has an impressive history in its own right but in my opinion this video completely misrepresents Hull, drawing on these positives and thus ignoring some serious negatives, painting an inaccurate picture of the place. Personally I think that if you choose to stay in Hull a lifetime, as this video points out, then of course it will seem quite cultured as you're not experiencing what else is out there. I don't want to be accused of calling Hull a bad place as I'm not but it needs to become a lot more accepting as a place before it could be deserving of this IMO.
It's a video to PROMOTE Hull. Which other cities do you think will be 'promoting' themselves by drawing attention to their negatives? Have you ever considered a career in PR? No? Good thing really, isn't it?
I can't believe they made Hull look this flipping good! No wonder Hull won City of culture bid for 2017. There were street parties everywhere the week the announcement was made in late 2013. Why didnt they go down Springbank road or up to Preston Estate or Sculcoates lane area and ask them locals what they think about the city? Don't even get me started about East Hull with their fierce looking pit bulls on patrol.LOL
+TheRegalEagle2014 Don't get me started on North Hull! People there can't handle cultural people! It has improved though, they demolished those death traps!
Archman 155 People would of lived and died in those flats, but nobody died as in accident. Ashthorpe flats, Bridgeman House and Vernon house were probably the worst of all of OPE flats. Good thing they were demolished 2004, 2012 and 2013.
Hello, would it be possible to use a few of the clips from this video in a university project I am doing? I have done an architecture MA thesis project based in the city of Hull and want to use a few clips in a video that explains my project. The video is not for making profit or anything, it just explains the work I have done. Thank you so much if this is possible.
I deleted the thread i started. The thread ended in painting Hull in a bad light - which was not my intention. Perhaps in more positive terms it wouldnt be unfair to say it missed a lot more things that are important about the culture in Hull.
This video opened my eyes. Everything is pictured from a good angle somebody watching this might think "Not a bad city" but reality is far from that. The architecture etc. is horrible, there are many chavs around and even the city centre is basically dead at night.
i think there are other towns more deserving the culture title than hull. take a look at the costal towns scotland for starters, the way they have managed to keep their traditions
I love Hull. I never liked Birmingham that much as a youngster - although I probably missed much of its transformation. It's rather lovely now. But, for me, not as lovely as Hull. This is my home of 20 years. I love the open sky, the Estuary, the history, the pride of the people, and the people in general. I just wish Hull's own Council could have loved it half as much over the years, and made some better planning decisions. Some monumental losses of fantastic buildings occurred in the 1980s - and just recently the iconic J. Arthur Rank Mill, courtesy of the land grabbers, Manor Holdings, or whatever they're called. I do love the Deep, though.
Well done Hull, and all those that make it the place to be... and whilst being supported by Blue flag for a safe place to drink; Join us in our night life also. The Heart in the 'Hull' is beginning to beat Freely again, keep it up =)
did they make the people in this pronounce the city name wrong on purpose? this is just a tourist attraction ploy. that didnt show the Ull i know and love.
This is brilliant. So proud to have Hull as my adopted home.
I'm from Texas with family in 'ull. We visit as often as we can. I smiled all the way through this video!
It represents no more 'ull' because were being flooded with 'alrite boss its bran like nu init' types from the continent. they're changing OUR city without OUR say.
I lived in Hull from the day I was born in 96 till 2008. I miss it dearly as I now live in Somerset, Hull will forever be in my heart!
Proud to be from East Yorkshire and Hull is my city. It is a fantastic place and much mocked by those who don't know it or have never been.
Excellent video. I went to Hull university and graduated in 2013 and I miss it already. Hull is a inhibitionless honest city with very unassuming and loyal people. Yes to Hull!

I feel very proud of being a part of Hull, the video captures the very essence of the city and it's people
A great video and true in sentiment. I feel as much from Hull as I do from Wolverhampton. A lovely City and proud to be a part!!
Wonderful, evocative video, expressing the essence - indeed the "resonance" - of Hull.

Very well said as ever John. The video is terrific. Loved the Larkin.
Brilliant video it really shows the diversity in Hull. I love Hull even though not born here I cant imagine ever living anywhere else. Hull is home

Fantastic video, the council this year have really pulled their finger out. Really hope we win, it will be fantastic for the City. Yes to Hull x
Well done all those involved in this excellent video. It sums up the new Hull very well.

Great sound Steve- Some lovely spots you have there in Hull. Even one of those magical old-fashioned arcades. Nicely Done All.

+These Are The Voyages I lived here a long time unfrortunately but soon I finish school and then I will move out.
We won!
i think there are other towns more deserving the culture title than hull. take a look at the costal towns scotland for starters, the way they have managed to keep their traditions
Well done 'ull.
I'm from Birmingham............and Hull.
people say things about Hull but them people who do say things are normily the people who end up moving here and it is cheaper than birmingham
