Speaking of popcorn, my favorite tested hack so far is the mesh bag for removing unpopped kernels. And how can anyone watch even one of your videos and not subscribe?
Most useful one was the spoon in the pull tab. Whether it's arthritis, carpel tunnel, or a sprained finger, there's loads of people who would find that hack makes life a little easier.
I've been doing this since they started putting pull tabs on cans, I don't have any conditions just 9 times out of 10 I find in impossible to get my finger under the tab (need long fingernails ?), and I pull the lid off with the spoon to prevent the lid coming off too quickly and end up slicing my hand as they have a tendency to just pop off all of a sudden.
I have neuropathy in both of my hands and will actually try the spoon hack and the seal removal hack. 👍 thanks. And I love watching you and Mrs. B laughing together. 😃
I got an electric can opener & in a slot on the back it has a muti purpose opener that has a bottle opener & the other side has a wedge for pull tabs, it’s such a great tool & I love that it’s easy to keep track of since it just goes back in the slot.
Watching you both get so happy when the egg yolk was sliding down the wire rack (and the success of the hack) made me smile so much! 😄 also the way Mrs B “acts out”situations is so funny! The cucumber part was the best! 😂
I use the bowl of the spoon to lift the tab towards yourself until the can is open enough to pry off the lid . Insert the spoon handle in the tab and pull up an away from the tab side.
Haha I do that can opening trick a lot! I always have long natural nails so I use the back end of a spoon or fork to at least lift up the tab. Also sometimes use a small knife to start opening a box and I use it to pull open those seals on bottles... I hold the plastic lift part against the side of the knife and it works so well.
Been watching a fair few of these kitchen hack videos in what has been a really hard week. Thank you Barry and Mrs B for creating such comforting, homely videos.
I've opened soup that way my whole life! Also with the pringle pot, you've made a great colander when camping.. Little snack and then perfect for draining pasta 😜
First hack: I had carpal tunnel surgery on both hands and actually had an issue where I couldn't open cans for like 2 months and i had to do something like this, and I'll tell you, it worked so well, but how I did it, I use spoons/forks that have the flat handles, put it underneath to push it up, put it through the loop, then grab the end of the handle sticking out of the loop and pull that back, the scoopy part of the spoon would brace against the side of the can adding leverage to the handle making it way easier to open, less strength needed too.
The rainbow milk video may well be faked but it could also potentially be a difference between US & European sprinkles. European sprinkles tend to be coloured with natural fruit & veg dyes which are much less vibrant than the artificial dyes still commonly used in the US. I had the same problem when trying to make sprinkle cakes last week :)
That's what I thought as well. And having bought American sprinkles a while ago to make a Funfetti cake I also noticed that there is a difference in texture, so I think this might have been the reason.
That still doesn't explain how the video had distinct colour streams that ran instantly. If it was just a case of different dyes, the UK one would look the same just less vibrant. The video is definitely fake!
With the cucumber, I cut the plastic, but not all the way cut what I need and then use the top of the plastic to cover the cucumber. Forms a nice seal!
Was just going to comment to say something like this! I cut the end off, then roll the plastic down the cucumber, cut the cucumber pieces I want, then roll the plastic back up and twist the end to seal it 😊
The underside of a Coffeemate creamer lid is designed to pierce the seal and create a pourable opening! I just opened a jug this morning that way, lol.
If I can't get the 'seal' off a bottle, or milk, I use a fork, I use the tines to pierce the plastic and then use the fork as a lever to remove it. Works every time!
I was just checking to see if anyone else had mentioned this way of turning potato based snacks into mashed potatoes, I was sure that I had seen Barry do this on a previous video.
I use the first hack but after opening the lid a little bit I put the spoon (or fork) in the small opening that you just created to lift the lid, takes less strength.
I've only gotten through the first "hack" but there are actually kitchen gadgets that do the same thing. I have one and it makes the process of opening cans basically effortless.
Mrs. B is so childlike sometimes and it is amazing. You are a lucky man Barry, treasure her. And you can definitely tell that she has gotten much more comfortable on camera over the years.
I never knew the can opening with a spoon trick was a hack. I use a spoon or even a fork to open cans like that all the time, ever since I was a little kid. Sometimes all you need is the help getting the tab up, just like Barry showed, but yeah it's great for the whole job sometimes too.
That method to open soup is something I’ve done for a few years. Im only 52 but had rheumatoid arthritis and have desperately trying to keep doing some cooking. Another great video 😊 ps The method Barry used was almost right, but you get a better lever coming from the other direction for the last part (the way B did it would hurt my wrist)
When I saw the Pringles cans, and Mrs.B mentioned mashed potatoes when you don't have a masher and needing a hammer, I thought she was gonna use the hammer to crush up the Pringles and make "instant" mash
That is a "hack" that's been on those 5 minute bs channels. But Pringles are only about 40%, so they just turn out nasty. Food theory did a video on the idea
yay first hack is the one I use all the time because I wear nail enhancements and can't open even coke tins unless I use my key or a spoon in the house. Awesome video as always had me laughing too
The egg white separation can be done using an empty water bottle... just squeeze bottle a bit, put the bottle's hole up to the egg and let the bottle inflate.
As someone who has mobility issues after a stroke, yes, the way they used a spoon to open pull top cans can be done easier. Flip the bowl of the spoon upside-down and have that end inside the lip of the can. Much easier to open that way. 😉
The thing is i just don't understand the amount of gadgets and goofy hacks available to separate an egg... why? To separate an egg all you need is the shell of the egg cracked in 2. Just pass the yolk in between the halves and the egg white will fall away.
🤣Egg separating race rack via the Lewis household hacks. In the lead was Room Temp; coming in last was RefridgEggerator. Folks no one is eggxurating the fun of watching this video, eggcept me. Having fun at every age is great!!! Thank you Mr and Mrs Lewis!!!
I always do the spoon hack nowadays (1st one for opening cans with rings). Because one time I was opening a can the normal way, the ring snapped off while the can was already halfway opened and it gave me a really deep cut on my finger and now I am traumatized.
The mash potato one, but with a slightly larger bottle, and push the potato strings out onto a surface dusted with seasoned bread crumbs ... then fast deep fry the coated potato strings. BOOM
@@chrisjfinlay tomato puree tubes are definitely designed to be used that way, I can't think of any other reason why they'd have a spike in the top of the cap.
I'll do the cuke trick. Might use the can trick to make spaetzle (small German dumplings). Wouldn't need the bottle, they should just run through. How you get the batter in the container is your problem...ha, ha.
The lid piercing trick works really well on coffee creamer containers. At least the ones found in America, like International Delight refrigerated coffee creamers. They have those metal seals and the lid as a nice protruding bit (that's what she said) and it cracks the seal perfectly.
@@hannahk1306I thought as much. It doesn’t have to be coffee creamer. The hack works best on lids with the metal foil seals rather than the paper ones.
@@hailtothefire_ we have tubes with lids that are designed for this purpose, e.g. tomato purée or medicated creams. I usually just use a knife for the larger seals, if I can't get them off. Most of the containers in the UK with seals I can think of have the wrong sort of lids (or no lid), e.g. milk bottles, hot chocolate or custard powder tubs, etc. Definitely works with the right container though.
The first hack with the spoon i have been doing for years but you put the spoon through the other way and against the lip of the can and lift, much easier and less chance of splashing.

Today we witnessed the first annual Barry Lewis egg race.
Hey @BarryLewis - Your camera movants are to jerky.. and super over exposed. could not even watch to the end
Mrs B reminds me of that person that wants to tell a joke, but forgets the punchline 😂 Except, she way funnier 🤣
Dinner times are always funny, she really makes my day
I'm the opposite: I can only remember the punchline 😆
She really tickles me! She seems like someone I'd love to be friends with!

I have fake nails and to not break them or hurt my nail I always use this hack too!!
I get excited when I see Mrs. B is there for the kitchen hacks. The two of you are super cute together.
Best ones are when she say's "I'll need a hammer". A hammer!!
I have neuropathy in both of my hands and will actually try the spoon hack and the seal removal hack. 👍 thanks.
And I love watching you and Mrs. B laughing together. 😃
I never have finger nails (my own fault) and using a spoon to get under it does absolutely work.
I got an electric can opener & in a slot on the back it has a muti purpose opener that has a bottle opener & the other side has a wedge for pull tabs, it’s such a great tool & I love that it’s easy to keep track of since it just goes back in the slot.
I think a knife would be easier and more effective for the seals. The spoon one looks decent though if you don't have an electric tin opener.
Bayaaa
Have you ever been in a situation where you watched one these videos and smiled the whole time😁😁
Thanks Tiffany, much appreciated
I have! :D
Every time watching a video from Barry's channel
These two are real relationship goals XD just so cute together! and Mrs B just seems like the sweetest person

As an avid F1 fan, liked the Hammer Time reference a bit too much - probably because it caught me off guard 😂👏
I do the can hack to get the ring up! For the sauce seal bayya if it's being a pain we stab thru it with a fork and pull it up
Been doing that trick with the spoon to lift the ring pull since I was a kid. Also works using a butter knife 😁
Similarly, I have really short nails, so I often use a spoon/knife/fork to get the ring lifted because it's sometimes hard to get under it.
Same here! I also have occasional hand strength issues so it is really helpful

I've been using the can opener hack for at least a decade. I started using the spoon/knife/fork when the ring hurt my fingers (arthritis in hands).
The smallest piece in the Ikea Övermätt silicone cover set is for cucumbers :)
I absolutly adore Mrs B getting involved in these videos!!! i think she's hilarious and you're relationship is so adorable!!!

that was the most dramatic egg separating I've ever seen, so fun!
You both had me in absolute tears today. Thank you.
Hi guys the tin hack I’m going to use all the time as I’ve got arthritis in my hands and I really struggle xx ps I love you guys xx
For the cucumber, and lemons, onions etc you can get little silicone caps that you put on the exposed ends, way more convenient!
Loved the lewis Hamilton "hammer time" reference. 👌
Mrs B's getting really good at saying "Have you ever been in a situation where..."

I can see why you two love eachother :) your house must be full of laughter :)
First one can help for those with arthritis in fingers
Yep good call
The music with the egg slide was phenomenal
All I can think of is, “have you ever been in a situation where you lost your keys and your mobile phone?… where’s my keys, where’s my phone” 😂
You've had some terrible Bolognese sauce 😂
I seem to remember that you can actually make potato mash out of the Pringles if you want. Just smash and rehydrate and presto, mashed potato. :)

Just noticed at 7:07 the lid of the bottle is the same shape as the brand of the sauce. Never noticed that before.
"my inner child says its cool" - Mrs B is so cute.

Suggestion for the cucumber hack: try starting at the larger/wider end so the piece you use to 'cap' the rest is larger than what's leftover. Maybe?

For the sauce bottles, isn't there 3 little tad that lip over the threaded side of the bottle that you just peel a bit, then use the flap on the top?
The one with the spoon I use often as I have long nails so it's really useful
The egg white separation can be done using an empty water bottle... just squeeze bottle a bit, put the bottle's hole up to the egg and let the bottle inflate.
The lid thing works great with liquid creamer.
Another good hack is to use a Norwegian cheese slicer to slice up cucumber into thin perfect slices 👌🏻
I second this! The cheese slicer can also be used as a cake knife/spade if you have too many cakes
