Updated lyrics paying homage to the fact the Deejay was on tour with Hamilton at the time, and an added bridge written by Geoff. ❤

Have never been able to stand the original, so was happy to see their tongue in cheek revision with great harmonies and singing.

Voiceplay always pays homage to the original, but will never do a copycat version. They are in full costume and makeup about half the same time. They have done this at Disneyworld's Christmas party many times, each time they add topical lyrics, and the Tinkerbell line is always used there.
Left to right, Geoff Castellucci, this was his arrangement, which means he did all of the planning, video, production, etc. Next is Eli (ellie) Jacobson, fantastic tenor, Deejay Young, has worked with them several times, my favorite is Bang! which is a song about adulting, Cesar de la Rosa, newest member since mid 2021, and Layne Stein, beatboxer, baritone, does about half the arrangments.
In older songs you will see Tony Wakim, baritone, left in 2016 and became business partner with Layne in Pattycake Productions, Earl Elkins Jr, high tenor was with them from the beginning (1997) left in 2020 for undisclosed personal reasons, and J None, baritone, was with them from 2018 to 2021 when he joined the Navy and is singing with them. He has been back several times to collaborate with them.

The movie version you played is a totally different remake of the original song. It was a novel concept when it was released in the late 1950s. VoicePlay’s version is closer to the original song.

Yeah, I've never even seen the movie, but I remember the album version (vaguely).

@@Tarkus_ I remember the song when it was first released very well. My brothers found out that I did not care for that squeaky song and played it constantly. I cringed when I heard that they were going to do this, but of course they redeemed it in my eyes.

Layne actually did the helium bit on TikTok after this.

DeeJay was touring with Hamilton when they did this cover. They don’t always go full on costume, I think so they can put out more content. They always change things but always in a good way (in my opinion). I think Layne was a better Dave than Dave lol

I remember the Chipmunks from the '60s wasn't rock & roll. You're going to love their new one for this year. I laughed so hard. It should be out soon for the public.

Layne actually put up a sped up (to make the voices high) version on tic tok because everyone wanted it, lol. ❤ It was really funny, cept for Geoff. He just sounded normal 😂

So did DeeJay. That's why Eli was pointing towards him during that line.

If you're wanting/expecting a copy of the original song in a cover, then VoicePlay (or any of the other a cappella groups, for that matter) may not be your cup of tea. While they'll always pay homage to the original and you'll always be able to tell where it came from, they put their own spin on any song they cover. In this case, updated lyrics for the 2nd go around (if you noticed on the version of the movie you played, they just repeated the lyrics from the 1st verse again), including Geoff's Tinkerbell line (which I though was hilarious!) and Eli's sly pointing at Deejay who was touring in Hamilton when the video was filmed, and Geoff also added a bridge that the original version didn't have. So, yeah, the song's not going to be exactly the same anytime VoicePlay gets their hands on it.

Another great parody song by Voiceplay is their version of You're A Mean One Mr. Grinch and Geoff Castellucci's cover of White Christmas isn't bad either. The looks on your faces when Geoff's balls dropped during the song was hilarious. 😂 Puff puff pass 🙏✌️

Normally VP has five full-time members, but right now there are four because J is on hiatus to sing bass for the US Navy, and they haven't replaced him. However, they have *always* done more collaborations featuring more different artists, than most other groups, and they're amazingly good at consistently getting incredibly talented people for that.

    • @catwhowalksbyhimself

Technically Caesar is his replacement and it's Earl that hasn't be replaced, but Eli has proven quite capable as the high tenor and Caesar can handle the high baritone, so they could take on either a lower baritone or a higher tenor if they needed to.
And if J-None came back, so much the better.

4 main members. There used to be 5 but (I want to say Vince) left and they've had guest members since then.
I mean... I kept wanting to hear Geoff's falsetto I don't know about anyone else...
