Playoffs is different for several different reasons. This is not supposed to be the playoffs or determine the best team in the league it's just to make the NBA a little bit more interesting during the season. That's one of the reasons is played on a neutral floor which again is different than the playoffs. No home court advantage. And you're right it means nothing other than the players who actually win they get a nice little Christmas bonus which probably don't mean as much to the top players but I bet it means a lot to the ones that's on the team making the minimum.
Just know this mindset is why the game is where it's at today. Because nothing matters anymore, the players don't feel the need to compete in this tournament, or even the Allstar game. When you set expectations they'll meet them.
