But of course this is a retro gaming channel so it's not like we are going to talk about modern PC Gaming on the Steam Deck...we are going to talk about retro emulation...more specifically MAME arcade emulation!

On today's Steam Deck video I will go over the games I recommend you play on your Steam Deck today when it comes to MAME! Because a LOT of people were asking about videos showcasing the best common and hidden gem games you can play via EmuDeck emulation on Steam Deck...so this is a test! If this video does well...I will make more :)
But these are the games I recommend you check out for MAME on Steam Deck! when it comes to 2D arcade games in MAME! Because not everyone grew up in the 90s arcade retrogaming generation...and maybe you missed some of the deep cuts in the video from back in the day!

Again I recommend getting a Dock for your Steam Deck as the process is MUCH easier that way!

Absolutely love your 2D videos more than anything else. I would absolutely love to see a shoot em up and even a run and gun video! Maybe talk about the contra series? Especially Contra 4 on the NDS! Being a metal slug fan like you are, this is such a great game from Wayforward... And, more 2d bullet hell shooters please!

And a small PSA: If anyone is planning to play Night Slashers, go with the Japanese rom if you couldn't tell by the video, as the NA version is censored to a great degree.

Some great games here and many that I was unaware of. I did buy Night Slashers on the Switch but needed to make a US account as it's not available to buy in Europe. Even though I have a Steam Deck and Mame romset I still like to buy the games that I enjoy whenever I can.

Not a beat em up but I really enjoy Rayforce through Mame. I think it might be my favorite vertical shmup. Magical Drop 3 is my favorite puzzle game.

Man, I wish I could find a full step-by-step set of instructions for getting mame games to work. I'm running batocera off a microsd on my steam deck and I'm confused as all hell, even after hours of futzing around. I just don't understand the different versions, bios, what files are needed (since it seems to vary by game?), folder structure, etc.
But I went over all this here? What’s not working? I’m starting to offer one on one help on my patreon soon but I’m not sure what the problem you are having is
@@VideoGameEsoterica Well, this is super embarrassing. Apparently I had everything set up right, but the wrong emulator selected in batocera. I was pulling my hair out trying merged, un-merged, different bios, different versions of roms, and all I had to do was set the emulator to auto. Good lord...

Messing around with mame games again on imac does the steam deck have ability to run arcade games at a better frame rate and resolution than on an old cpu

This just allows you to play MAME in gaming OS. So you can still play your Steam library

I've been trying to get Outrunners working on my Steam Deck, but I can't figure out how to change the screen settings so it's only one screen. How did you go about fixing it?
Haha you kinda just don’t. When I show the game I literally capture an ultrawide image then crop and post. I’ve never been able to successfully run a single instance

How do you add scanlines to mame roms on steamdeck? My mame roms look too pixelated and blocky.

@VideoGameEsoterica i tried but i couldn't see anything that relates to shading the closest thing i could find was a video filter option but it doesn't really work well for mame roms (it's more suitable for snes and genesis games)

Any feelings on MAME vs FinalBurnNeo for a lot of these games?
I use Final Burn Neo for Capcom CPS / CPS 2 / CPS 3 stuff along with PGM and some shmups. Both have solid uses (MAME and FB Neo)
Also if you have any interest in Retro Achievements Final Burn Neo supports them and MAME doesn't.
