This amazing footage of the 1965 Tasman Series Championship Round 1 at Pukekohe, New Zealand is now over 50 years old.
The worth of Jack Brabham as a racing car constructor was convincingly demonstrated when three of his Coventry-Climax engined Tasman Formula cars, driven by Graham Hill, Frank Gardner and Jim Palmer, representing Britain, Australia and New Zealand respectively, emerged triumphant in an incident studded New Zealand Grand Prix at Pukekohe. Hill, driving the Australian entered Scuderia Veloce car, led from lap two to the finish in impeccable style to set a new race record of about 90 mph, while Gardner, the only other to go the full distance, came in 1 min 22.9 seconds later.

Pukekohe, my hometown. Think I saw every Grand Prix held there between '63 and '71, and many of the sports car races. Paul Fahey in his Mustang, Rod Coppins etc. Even remember Burt Munro there once. Great times.

I was there - loved Clark's Lotus 32B, espec when Jim Palmer bought it for the following year - just about my all time favourite.

I was there! Clark was the greatest but never won the NZ Grand Prix at Pukehoe.
