22:40 setting an empty-order on the wood only works if you're consuming wood only in 1 place, or you're overproducing wood (you probably are, and even should be). With a pull order, they try to fill all the boxes that want wood to the specified level (and priorities can of course be set, too), but with the push order on the source, they only care that it's "no in this one" and will drop it off at the nearest location that has space and allows it. Most people will likely have some box somwhere that injects the wood via conveyors into their production line(s), so often that works fine. But if people have multiple locations that use wood, and they are underproducing it, this will starve the furthest location.
Never forgot to mention it, its been mentioned in many a video, and yet people still dont know its there, were as just setting the storages slightly different to start with solves the problem before its even a option you would consider ticking/unticking
One note - you CAN set the various loading / unloading to do 100%, and as long as you don't allow partially loaded trucks they will only grab when they'll have a full truckload. In other words, the devs fixed that small problem from the previous version of the game!
This is one thing the devs need to improve: the analytics/monitoring/reporting side of things. It isn't easy to understand total inputs/outputs and identify bottlenecks and what not. Definitely needs to be improved!
Nice video. The thing I didn't understand is that I didn't have to use the tool to make the harvesters get the wood. I guess the area defined by the Forestry Control Tower does that.
forestry seems like such a hassle (haven't tried it yet). I've found that importing wood from sawmill or from contract is better. also rubber for wood contract is cheap and easy, and a great way to get rid of sulfur.
Why not improve the first build with double boxes? Import samplings from farm to first, assign second to tower and tower to first wood, export second to where is needed. If zones are far apart having planters and harvesters running around freely seems bad too
you could but you would have to work out exactly how many plots you need per planter, were as having them free range means they will get fuel/saplings locally, once they are out of local jobs to do they will wonder across the map to a new location and stay there till they run out of jobs then move on again
my new island doesn´t need any (mined) coal minimal use thanks to the arc-furnace + charcoal from trees giving me all I need (and it looks really cool)
super late game I think this is quite possible, i know someone is trying to take things one step further and cut out all oil imports as well! Green the whole way!
@@JDPlays well most of my Diesel is synthesized from CO2 and if need be turned to Naphta (Graphite from charcoal), works well at the moment really would like to turn coal easier to hydrocarbons via gassification and resynthesising, but thats wishfull thinking (sry for my english, not my first language but an important one as a process engineer so feel free to correct me :) )
Trucks can be mind controlled to some extent, though they still tend to do stupid things. E.G. I had a truck drive up to a ground water pump, load up water and take it straight to a dump facility. All settings were on auto. The only thing I did was removing a storage tank thus leaving the pump connected to a consumer via a pipe. Go figure why... :S
1st off... THANKS FOR THE CONTENT! 2nd... I've noticed your game runs soooooo much faster than mine does, even at full speed. Did you mid the base clock/tic speed? How?
JD, is there a way to crank up the speed of CoI beyond the three that are available? Or are you doing it all in post? Cause it looks to me like you're clicking on things as they're going 100x ;)
The reason the "intended" way wasn't working properly is you need 2 boxes for the input and output, link the tower to one box, and have a "keep full/empty" on the other box. Then you have a box requesting saplings that outputs into a box connected to the tower, and a box pushing wood out that is filled from the box connected to the tower. Then you need much less advanced logistics routes, and the general pool of trucks will move saplings and wood based on priorities.
You may want to NOT put the wood/sapling boxes in the center of forest because... Mega trucks can't drive thru trees like the yellow trucks can. The gaps between trees are not big enough so they are route blocked. Learned this after planting a field and big dumpers could no longer reach coal mine on other side.
Your videos are way too long. You need to be concise. You have great information. But you could’ve put this information into a 5 to 10 minute video easily. I’ve watched the majority videos and I always give you my like, But you are very long-winded and rambling

Excellent guide on tree cutting, and ty for doing the math for us
Thank you.
Great video explaining the nuances of forestry.
Excellent. Thanks for getting the true density vs. best case density.

@22:00 forgot to mention "IF" player wants to instead untick the option from the vehicle management "allow partially loaded trucks"

Thanks was looking forward to this one

Good racing cars at the start of the video! I mean... racing trucks.
This is what happens when u crank the video to 10x speed in post :)
This is one thing the devs need to improve: the analytics/monitoring/reporting side of things. It isn't easy to understand total inputs/outputs and identify bottlenecks and what not. Definitely needs to be improved!

Really helpful video. Compliments.
I shoulda started growing saplings and planting them earlier, oof. I didn't realize they took away the sawmill. Better late then never tho. Thanks JD.
So what you're saying is:
JD System > All other systems
Got it.
Yep pretty much!
forestry seems like such a hassle (haven't tried it yet). I've found that importing wood from sawmill or from contract is better. also rubber for wood contract is cheap and easy, and a great way to get rid of sulfur.
Once setup its very much a set and forget, but the wood gains between being setup correctly and and just leaving it to sort its self out is massive!

Love “borrow a like”. Manipulate that algorithm JD!!!!!
Curious have you ever had someone take their like back?
I would guess so, but then again my like ratio for most videos is in the 99%
Good day, my CAPTIN!!! (see thumbnail)
Typos happen, on the flip side it took 6h for someone to notice and comment :)

EDIT: The productivity for harvesting options are as follows:
100%/20 = baseline
80%/16 = +6% yield
60%/12 = +14.3% yield
40%/12 = -15.8% yield

Will vehicles get fuel from a tank with a keep full setting? Or is the fact that you don't set them to 100% full have something to do with it?

Sometimes its in the edit, and the video is speed up, the lets play was just running the game at max speed!
Yeahhh. Let's go fast breeder reactor is confusing
Soon (tm)

LOL, Free Range Harvesters? Do their wings taste spicier? Sorry, I had a good laugh over that.
Don't worry JD, the typo in the thumbnail didn't get past me 😊
He's diffrent.
hahaha but the one in the video you missed completely 😊
@@JDPlays You mean "Diffrent"? Nope I saw that, just didn't comment on it. Nice try 🙂

Mega trucks cant transport saplings or wood, so i see no issue with this
Tree planet😂😂😂😂😂
yep there is no going back and fixing that typo!
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
First comment maybe
