but all he's got is a fake smile and cut wrists
Wishin' he could walk right up to them and show them the scars

Maybe they would finally understand and go back to how it was before it all began
But he's just a little different so they taunt him and they beat him

His older brother ain't around, in and out of jail, hanging with the wrong crowd
He's been doing coke, smoking weed, getting drunk all his life he's a shame
no, he's not too proud
Now his habits are rubbing off on his little bro yeah, but guess what?
Little did he know that everytime he did a line,
everytime he lit a joint,
everytime he took a shot he was sippin mode
So Steven's sitting in his room getting high now

He just takes another toke til his room fills with smoke
5-6-7 hours til he knocks out
Now he started stealing pills from his mom
8-9-10 at a time and now they're gone
and maybe for a moment all his problems seem to fade,
but the high fades too after not too long
and that's when it really sinks in and that's when it hits him
that these god damn drugs won't fix him
Curled up on the floor, can't take it anymore
Now he's talking to God cuz he's the only one that gets him
On his knees, looking up, can't stop crying
"God I know we haven't talked in a long time
but this time I really need you. Please God help me, say something
just give me a sign, because now I'm falling apart and
I don't think that I can do it. Please God, give me the strength
to pull through it. Tell me, Should I give up? I could end it all right now.
I just don't know if I'm brave enough to do it.
Cuz there's gotta be a better way than suicide.
Try to wait it out, give it time, you'll be fine.
But it's been so long and I still haven't been able to get rid
of all the thoughts that I feel inside. So sick, so angry, so mad
and to top it off no one even knows that"
That's when he stood up, wiped his tears, walked over to his desk
and got a pen and a notepad
He just couldn't see it getting any better
So on a cold dark night in December, Steven knew exactly what he had to do
But first he sat down and wrote a couple letters
One to his step-dad, one to his mother,
couple to the kids at school, one to his brother

Same! This is one of the saddest songs I’ve ever heard! I cry every time. One of my roommates in college had a friend she knew in high school kill himself. It was so sad. I didn’t know him but he posted something on facebook one night that made us suspect he was going to do it. My roommate and one of our suite mates called his mom I think and let her know about what he posted. But sadly, it was too late. I think he was bullied which is why he did it. This is why it’s important to be kind to everyone. Words can hurt too.

The Bible never talked about suicide (at least I never saw anything about it) so it's hard to say for sure what would happen to someone who kills his/herself. I would like to think that you'd still be accepted into Heaven, but then again you never know.

My best friend used to play this song on repeat, while cutting herself and I guess it was a sort of cold comfort for her. But I understood her pain and I went through the same situation as Steven in the song. I get it and it doesn’t feel good being bullied.
I have the upmost respect for Jake Miller for writing a song about this kind of subject. This is something that doesn't get enough attention and for Jake to put something like this out in the open is so brave. I get goose bumps every time I hear this song. This song should be everywhere. Reminds me of my brother who died a week ago because of football. It hurts me because I feel like it was my fault. I pushed him to play after he had a heart problem because he was hit too hard during a football game, he was only a sophomore in high school. He had so much to live for. His coach had no idea what was wrong with him, so played him and he died on the field. The opposing team hit him too hard, and he just collapsed in front of 1,000 people. Everything went silent and the paramedics ran out and tried to bring him back, but it didn't work. They told the refs, and they announced it to everyone, and it was silent. They cancelled the game and my brother was rushed to the hospital. Coach and his team followed behind the ambulance, still fully dressed in pads and cleats. There was no time to change, they had to go. When they arrived a minute after my family, the results still came out negative. My brother is gone for good and I'll never see him again. 🙏😓 I love you T and miss you

Haven't heard this song in years ahhhh
This song meant a lot to me. I went through a lot in high school. HOWEVER I took the anger and sadness and used it as motivation to go to the gym and show them I was better than they were. Everyday I think about what happened but it gives me the motivation to go to the gym.
What I am trying to say is find something challenging and used the pain as motivation to get better at it!

I randomly remembered this song out of nowhere. Early Jake Miller was actually underrated
I'm "Steven" .... I've been abused all my life. My grandmothers boyfriend abused me & my dad stopped him. Soon enough my dad died in a car crash & a few years later, my mom had a abusive boyfriend & he always hit us, I was always bullied in school by the other kids... What 5th grader should be thinking suicide is the answer? As time passed all the abuse stopped until last year I met this boy & I honestly thought he loved me until he also started abusing me. I always think if my dad was around none of this would've happened. Last month I attempted suicide, clearly I failed... Still waiting on the day for the sun to shine in my life.

Rexkless Lon well I hope that light is shining now I know it's been a few years. I know how it feels to lose your father. Mine was to cancer so he was in pain constantly but he never let me see that he was in pain when I visited him at the hospital. So when he passed away I was terrified I didn't know what to do and on top of that I was bullied for being smart I guess I still don't know what I get bullied for. I have never attempted suicide but I am ashamed to admit that it crosses my mind on a daily basis.

I started to notice 4 years ago that i started getting depressed, i went to the doctor (by myself my dad is a shit head and mother is a drunk) and he said i have bipolar. the one thing is that i really like this girl but she dose not like me. (I am the ugliest kid in school) but she once texted me and guilt dated me for a day. I cant take it anymore. I know how this kid feels. No one supports me at all. I think about suicide. (Attempted many times) Maybe i should just end it all.

All I want to tell you is that you're leaving people behind that love you even though it might not seem like it.
My dad has bipolar aswell and it's really bothering him, my brother and me.
Not too long ago he was having problems with the "love of his life" because they were about to get a divorce cause of his sickness.
He has no friends because of my mother. She destroyed his life over and over again because she probably couldn't get over it when they got their divorce.
All he had was me and my brother and his love Sandra.
Now that she was gone I - as the older brother - was the one he talked to because my younger brother was always standing behind me due to our childhood.
We used to be in foster homes for like 10 years because of the fight my mother and dad had - both trying to get us to come with them so we were taken away from them.
I was the one who had to protect him so even now he still doesn't talk much about his feelings and stays behind me.
Anyways, I was the one my dad wanted to talk to and he told me "If she ever leaves me I don't think I'm going to make it. I think I'm going to die at age 55, so in 2 years."
That really got to me, I cried multiple times and had to talk that over with my girlfriend (glad I have her because without her I wouldn't be able to take that).
A few months later, after the divorce with Sandra, he told me that he's willing to take his life in 2016.
No clue why he would tell me but that basically broke me apart.
All he wanted was a "we still need you here" from me and my brother (because he had no one else and felt lonely and useless).
That's not too far in the past and I really hope he's getting better because he was on medications when he said that and he was supposed to be "fine" again - even though he took the medicals he said something like that.
While writing this I'm crying because it really hurts to even think about losing a person I love.
Rethink what you want to do.
Bipolar is tough and I'm afraid I might have it aswell, but you can pull through.
It may never go away and stay with your until you die but it's possible to manage it.
Think about the persons you love and how they would feel when you left them behind.
For me thinking about my Dad's death or even worse: my brother's death already brings me to tears and if it were to happen I would probably break down.
