San Diego & Tijuana are borderland cities on the US Mexico border and this has resulted in a unique mixing of cultures which is unlike anywhere else in Mexico or the USA. After my time exploring both I realised how much unity there is between both cities and though the media always paints a negative picture there are a lot of beautiful things about living on the border too!
I really love how in depth you go into our history, our Mexican American culture and how you interact with locals. Your deep analysis, your curiosity and passion for travel is something to truly admire. As a Mexican American from New Jersey I appreciate this video a lot 🇲🇽🇺🇸 Thank you ❤️
This channel keeps getting better. The interviews are improving, the video more interesting all the time. I’m glad to see videos about places and people other than Paris, Prague, and Barcelona. Brava!
That Duality of seeing San Diego and Tijuana facing each other at night is immaculate 🌃🌆 Next I'd explore on Top of the PLATEAUS Behind downtown San Diego. Thats where all the neighborhoods, restaurants, and 'Density' are, Like North Park, City Heights, Kearny Mesa etc. Breweries, and Breakfast diners are pretty Great in those neighborhoods too, and coffee is getting Huge in San Diego. Sometimes you'll catch glimpses of Tijuana from the Plateaus, and Nothing beats that duality of Being Elevated and seeing both cities facing each other...
What a great video Malini! I am so impressed with your Español! Having first experienced when I was kid this contrast between these two worlds that are basically just separated by a simple physical barrier remains so unfathomable to me. It made a huge impact on my life and on how I view and understand our present and modern world. I would like to suggest the rest of Baja California (Rosarito, Ensenada) and South Orange County, CA for future content.
SD is my favorite city in CA. Also, my favorite place for Mexican food. Spending Dia de los Muertos in Mexico last year was the best and I can’t wait to do that again. Your border interviews at the beach were super insightful. I know you may feel American English may be the accented one, but hearing yours and then the lack of one in your perfect Spanish is a complete head trip! Thanks for another great video!
it is a nice video. I can imagine what people fell looking at that border wall dividing the countries. for some of them, a better life but it can cost their life during the crossing
I can't believe you visited my hometown Tijuana 😄it's not the most beautiful city in the world, and a lot of ugly things happen in random corners, but the food is amazing, people are warm and welcome everyone, we have crazy gorgeous sunsets, and it's a multicultural, interesting city with one of the most cross-borders in the world. Definitely, it is worth visiting as I'm pretty sure you haven't seen any city like Tijuana, a unique mix of things.

I was there with my wife this past Wednesday. We have been there many times from our Orange County home. About 90 minutes away. We go for dental work. Tijuana has been officially hit hard by inflation. It is no longer cheap there. I doubt we will return.
Just discovered your channel, love the beautiful drone footage clips!!! Although many of us living in San Diego do confuse Tijuana as the capital of Baja California, GOOGLE says it is actually Mexicali the capital of Baja California.
Hello, I have seen so many of your videos and I would never imagine that you or anyone would make a video of the SD/TJ area. My father’s family have been living i. SD for decades and love SD, I was the one of the last ones to have born in TJ and going back and foward have never feel weird. I used to hang out with my grandma in SD and I live the two cities. My favorite beach In the world is In KM 58 south of Rosarito. We are really interconnected and each side have it got d and bad things. The main thing is to treat each one with respect. When Mexicans move to USA we doit to have a better life through work. We are not looking for freebies like a lot of Americans think. Is hard to leave behind out way of living, our friends, our lenguaje but we lear to love and be grateful. I earn my USA citizenship and I want the best for the USA. I love the many beautiful thing like the parks and I have a lost of American friends That are open to appreciate the Mexicans immigrant that are there. Agriculture is most of the jobs that Latin people work at without any guarantees and trust me they get pay their taxes. Work under bad conditions, low wages and they are living bidding on the little free time and they deserve recognition for feeding America. They might have crossed illegally but they pay a very high price for it. The American history do not include the big contributions of the Mexican and Latin contribution In the growth of this multicultural country. Your documentary did recognized this and I appreciate that you did it for the wordy audience that will see this video. 👏🌸
I love so much san deigo I wish to live there for the rest of my life. Please record another video and explain in detail how a person lives and opens a project there.
Hola, malini😁 your the best girl! Another fantastic video😁👍 hope your enjoying yourself on the west coast. Btw...did you save me a taco? They looked very good✌😁🍺
Why do people want to go to USA? I cant get it. Central America is so nice and beautiful. The food is amazing, the weather is perfect, the people are very friendly.
If all of y'all are from both here and there, you have to ALL clean up the sewage on our San Diego beaches and PAY MORE TAXES for the support of those who are from neither there nor here but EVERYWHERE.
This is amazing! Now venturing into a bit of Geo-Politics and Journalism, beyond Food and Travel. Please add the Baltics to your list they are a heaven for the restaurant and baking scene, comparable to the Nordics, with a sense of national renewal following accession to the EU.
This is a beautiful documentary that showcases the unique culture of the San Diego-Tijuana borderlands. It's amazing to see how these two cities, with their own distinct identities, share so much history and tradition. The food, the music, the art - it's all a beautiful blend of Mexican and American influences. My favorite part of the documentary was learning about the Chicana/o experience. The idea that "being Chicana/o" is both a cultural identity and a political movement is truly inspiring. Thanks for making such a great video!
But for 30 years? I'm indigenous and Many of us still Resent Mexico for continuing the Caste system and treating Darker natives just as terrible as USA 🤨
@@DefensisIndus You are so wrong. Most of the territory of New Spain Viceroyalty was renamed Mexico after the Independence from Spain (1810-1821). So Technically those territories belonged to Mexico for over 300 years. Novo-hispanos people (indigenous, criollos and mestizos) are the Mexican's ancestors. And the caste system is NOT a thing in Mexico, 99% of mexicans stand against that and you should know it.
It’s crazy because looking at you, you can pass for Chicana or even full Mexican. But once you speak, your accent is a shocker. Such elegance and beauty. Get yourself a few tattoos and some fake eyelashes, a gang name…you’ll be right at home here 🤣
Small chat with lovely couple separated by Trump’s wall is so terrible. Especially the pain in Mexican side man’s eyes you wint miss, though he was smiling and had pragmatic attitude of hard facts of life❤ Finally lovely kiss wirth millions❤
Who exactly are you referring to in the video as migrants? Mexican Americans are just as American as any other American. Are they grateful? They have just as much right to be there as anyone it’s their home. And they don’t need to pick between Mexican and American either. They embrace both, and so they should.
@ Really? It’s good to celebrate one’s culture for sure. So you avoid the question of being grateful. Interesting. If I was able to live in a country that gave me much more opportunity than the one I was born or my parents were born into I would be grateful. In fact my mother was a migrant from a very crap place and boy am I grateful for that I am born in a fantastic country. (Not USA )It doesn’t work if you go to another country and don’t acknowledge and appreciate and try to integrate with your new country. Maybe you haven’t noticed what has been happening in Britain recently? But there is where the problems with multiculturalism arise. The whites and non Hispanics around you mostly likely won’t like you if you don’t show any signs of integration. As an immigrant friend said to me “the migrants want all the rights but none of the responsibilities”. And I have to say your approach is arrogant.
Ok, I get your point, but who isn’t being grateful or integrating in the video is what I don’t understand. I also think that countries who receive migrants should be grateful, without them a whole load of day to day life would come to a stand still, it works both ways, don’t forget that, I’d think by what you’ve told me you’d also appreciate that too.
Everyone forgets confederacy mechanics in mexico are completely different than confederacy mechanics in the US. I just forget until I get to the space.
