Phil,try this.
Start the motor of the car,but don't do anything else. Just wait for a few minutes. ( Just one turn of the key).
It resets the computer of the car.
Now start again and follow your way.

Once I drive it locks all the doors & keeps the doors locked

keeping the seatbelt thing in all the time might be messing your doors up alarm thinks you are still seating in the car so could stop the door from opening
