I live under the tower. Used by the Aerial Erector School from RAF Digby, for climbing practice and training.
The three dishes used to be close by, moved by farmers. Used for impromptu film shoots and parties.
Great video and exploration, looks like money is worth more than history, very interesting history
Great video guys keep up the great work
Microwave feedhorn arm and the dish once aligned was fixed in orientation, generally had 2 dishes facing one way and 2 facing a different direction as signals bounced in the network via hops to cover NATO.
If you look at the site in Italy that the Swedish guys visited, it still has the troposcatter dishes still in situ.
Nice to see you boys visiting Bomber County. Plenty of old RAF bases for you to visit, some in better condition than others.
I did my climbing course at Stenigot with the RAF.
They still use it now. Generally whenever I want to go up it! The dish is climbable with a harness, the ladder is still solid.
Love your work u do and you're chit chat. .superb vids lads
It’s really annoying when history is being destroyed. Great to see it before it is trashed any further.
They where supported on legs, looking quite precarious, the site at Coldblow in Kent was the same setup, where the one at swingate would have had bill board reflectors. The dish would sit at 90 deg to the floor so it looked parallel to the ground then the focal point of the driven element would determine the angle that the signal was projected.
One of the Tropo Scatter installation still in position at Row Brow near Scarborough when I last visited a few year back. Might have now been removed. The huge dishes can be seen when talking around parts of the town centre. Was built by BT to provide communications to North Sea oil rigs.
I went there years ago - and there were four of the 'Tropospheric Scattering Dishes' on the ground. Massive, oddly sinister, and tremendously impressive. There was a similar station at Coldblow, in Kent, codenamed 'Ace High'. I believe it's a housing estate now.
we turned up there and found they were building houses lol
@@chrisstacey1984 - Not connected with this, but I was just looking at Google Maps - Lydden Spout Battery. There's a white van on the access road, and the thought crossed my mind: is it yours?
I REMEMBER A PROGRAMME ABOUT RESTORING HISTORIC BUILDINGS.
EACH PROGRAMME FEATURED 3 BUILDINGS I THINK.
THE GENERAL PUBLIC PHONED IN AFTER THE PROGRAMME HAD FINISHED TO VOTE.
AT THE END OF THE SERIES THE TOP 3 BUILDINGS WERE SHOWN AGAIN IN A LIVE PROGRAMME AND WERE VOTED FOR ONCE AGAIN.
THE BUILDING WITH THE MOST VOTES GOT RESTORED.
IN ONE PROGRAMME AN RADAR STATION IN SUFFOLK WAS SHOWN IT DID NOT WIN ITS HEAT.
I COULD NOT BELIEVE IT IF IT WERE NOT FOR THESE BUILDINGS AND THE TECHNOLOGY IN THEM I WOULD NOT BE TYPING THIS!
i like your glasses reminds me of my nan great vid as always
Thanks guys very interesting explore 🇬🇧🛸👍
Used to go past there when they were up. Never thought about taking pictures.
Well done guys Brilliant video 👍👍
Great video guys 🙂🍻👍🏻
Nice update, such a shame they were just scrapped! The last dish is on my urbex bucket list
This looks nuts, it’s on me list of places to explore
My guess the chunks of metal are where they sheared with an excavator mounted sheer, the scrap metal company probably would have used to cut the the mounting poles.
Nice video lads, I've visited the site of these dishes three times now to document them for my channel with the most recent visit being last week and in all those visits at various times of the day I never saw the farmer who owns the land, but maybe I just got lucky?
It's a shame three of the dishes have now been removed but I guess the farmer is simply fed up of people visiting them as when I visited in August 2018 shortly before the demolition of the other three dishes began he had a sign on the gate warning people that a bull was loose in the field in an attempt to deter people from entering.
Anyway for now it would seem that at least one of them has been saved but my guess is that one day in the not too distant future that one will also vanish without warning....
Fantastic stuff, thanks guys
I wouldent mind Betting there is a old abandoned bunker kicking around there somewhere?
We've discovered another world war II radar site here in Cornwall going to be doing a film on it very soon hopefully folks
Sounds interesting folk :)
Man that thing dwarfs Chris makes him look like a pointer in the middle lol
Building company more likely wanted build houses in the field .
"Aces High" was the anthem of the luftwaffe during World War II.
Bloody hell you walked the long way round! lol
Only around 14 minutes from where my Lincolnshire Coupland and Winn families are from, tealby. LoL
Hi guys amazing place to see the only remaining dish left is a pity not all have been left but the remaining once should have left on it’s steel legs instead of it being on ground 👍😊
The metal structure of the dishes gets a lot of stress from the winds. Once they see rust all over the superstructure, they are very concerned about it collapsing when too many explorers decide to do gymnastics getting up there. Lol. It could really do a number on a lorry or something driving by, never mind Norton. I think Alex is more likely to be a silly pants, and cause some kind of national levels of alarm. I'm just razzing all you Brit explorers, because of the great humour resources at their command. You know, Monty Python and the other crazy people that have been trapped on an island waaaaay too long. Lmao.
Video stopped Farmer let you two go after nice Satellite dish been to the One in Puerto Yeah Massive really Cool!!!; )
100 ton scrapp metal = ~ 12000 Euro, result : history gone
Ian looking like Dame Edna Everage in those glasses.
is this vid made recently ? Looks like winter weather while 31* here 😵
it was made in November 2019.
3rd i guess
But for real though I haven't watched one of your videos in a while and I'm glad I clicked on this video because I need to start watching your videos they are so interesting
DEVON!! DEVON!! its too flat for Devon!!
Nice one
Weather is lousy wherever you folks go!
Hi guys, that thing was humongous, wow. I think it's disgusting that farmer sold the others for scrap, how greedy and selfish is that. Thanks for sharing. x
Love your hat, I want one. 🇦🇺👍
I worked on a farm for years if you talk to the farmer most of the time they will go with you in the states
Paul Tykwinski .... almost in Market Rasen..
Cool stuff, is a shame they took that lot down.
What a terrible loss! Almost akin to tearing down statues. Shame on them. Best wishes, Paul in Lower Boddington
Such a shame when history is being destroyed I'm not a fan of historical site being damaged in any way folks
Yeahs it’s so sad folk :(
It’s a copper receiver highly sensitive.
It nearby to me!
👍
Haha new glasses 🤓
Woh the other side of that . was most impassive
All gone now :(
