Martin stood with all of us in the Ohio Valley against WTI ( big polluter). Thank you Mr. Sheen❤
Wow… how amazing…
Ramon Estevéz is half Spanish and half Irish and 100% iconic. I really loved him on West Wing.
What part of him was born in Ireland?
@@DanFisher-sv5fw his mom. that's 50% of him dna wise
@@DanFisher-sv5fw dont be that guy dan
@@DanFisher-sv5fw i was born in Ireland, still live here... im 100% Irish and i will say, if you have a drop of Irish blood then your Irish, if you choose to be, in my eyes theirs no such thing as a plastic paddy, we our all Irish, just born in different fields.
The Spanish 50% half is from the Region of Galicia. One of the most Celtic region in Spain.
Good man, his uncle was on the right side. Martin half Galician, half Irish, that’s some wild combination.
I love Martin’s eye glinting at “I heard he burned the prison down”
Dude was clearly proud of his ancestry right there.
Sure yer one of our own Martin. There never was a doubt. Sure with Charlie as your son we all knew he was Irish - welcome 🇮🇪💚
One of the best actors ever, underrated but fantastic
Really? You should get out more
Absolutely great actor. For me he really showed his acting ability and talent throughout his career by his performances as a young man in 'Badlands" and "Apocalypse Now" and in later life by his magnificent performance as General Robert E.Lee in "Gettysburg"
If Martin is ever arrested again for civil disobedience ,he should tell the judge that he can't help it ,it's in his DNA
😂😂
Indeed! 🇮🇪✌️☘️
I would!
That doesn't work LoL it could make it worse 😕
And he should burn the prison down, tell the judge it's a family tradition!
So Martin is Spanish on his dad's side and Irish on mom's. Interesting combination.
Probably what happened to Charlie.
Just kidding!
@@amyjones8114 😆😆😆
Catholic on both sides 😊
The Irish are all through Latin America. ☘️
It’s not that uncommon
Loved him on The Departed, didn't know he was half Irish.
Captain queenan haha
Well your uncle had good hand writing
Yes ,that's exactly what I was thinking too.
But back then everyone was taught to write like that, today school children are seldom taught to write, it's all on computers.
Educated well.
@@johnbrereton5229 yea my father and sister had that kind of hand writing i was curse with my mother hand writing
My Dad had wonderful almost copperplate handwriting. He was born in County Limerick in 1924. I asked him how it was go good.. he said, 'Beaten into me by the Christian Brothers'. That I can believe.
Everyone had that hand writing back then
Martin Sheen is a wonderful man (who looks a lot like his Mom) an Irishman to be proud of.☘️🇮🇪☘️💚
except he's not Irish, he's an American. He is of Irish descent. So am I. I am proud of that fact but I am not Irish despite that being the culture in our home in England.
@@mariahoulihan9483 Martin Sheen tells us his mother was born in Tipperary and as such the Republic of Ireland recognizes him as an Irishman free to claim his citizenship at any time he chooses. He is an Irishman born in the United States which afforded him American citizenship as well. He is indeed Irish.🇮🇪☘️
@@mariahoulihan9483 - He is Irish. He’s ethnically Irish (at least, partly). Being Irish isn’t strictly for Irish Nationals.
@@blueneptune825 He is half Irish (mother), half Spaniard (father), thus his real name, Ramón Antonio Gerardo Estévez. Both of his parents were immigrants that moved to the US. He also has the right to Spanish citizenship, btw. He chose to use Martin Sheen as a name because he thought he would have more opportunities in Hollywood with an English name rather than a Spanish one. He later regretted that decision and now feels ashamed of having hide his ethnicity. He said that himself in an interview.
@Maria Houlihan Agreed, he's American of both Irish and Spanish descent. And that should be respected as such...
Love love love Martin Sheen! Such an intelligent, handsome man and a talented actor.
I visited Kilmainham Jail in 2006. The staircase should be familiar to anyone who remembers the Michael Caine film 'The Italian Job' and most of the interior of the jail featured in the Daniel Day-Lewis film 'In The Name Of The Father.'
Of course, the prison also has many historical connections too.
The leaders of the Easter rising were executed there by firing squad in 1916....devalera was spared because he had american citizenship
The prison officer who escorts Charlie (Michael Caine) Croker out of jail is none other than the late Frank (Fr. Jack Hackett) Kelly!
They also filmed Paddington 2 there.
Kimainum visit is quite interesting even if you don’t have a relative who had been imprisoned there.
"I don't fight fascists because I think I'll win. I fight fascists because they're fascists." - Chris Hedges.
Great quote!
Yeah, No Fascists in Ireland.

@@bennyboogenheimer4553 I was referring more to what Mr. Sheen said about pursuing one's convictions because they are an integral part of who you are; not for any search for, or even necessarily hope of, "winning."

I have had the pleasure of meeting and spending time with Mr . Sheen . He's a gentleman , and a lovely man . I am a huge fan , but never let on , or even blinked an eye in his company . People deserve respect , and freedom from being " on " .
I so agree. I have met and had long conversations with several famous people and not let on i recognise them. I am sure they do not need it all the time.
Civil disobedience is genetic. RESPECT, Mr. Sheen.🦾🎉🎊🥃😀
yes, and for generations after him.
One of my favorite actors. Didn't know I shared Irish heritage with him.
His defiant stance against injustice is in his blood.
My Grandfather knew Eamon De Valera as a friend, they lived locally, and my Dad met him twice as a boy, in the 30 and 40s when De Valera was in power, including a visit to the cottage my family lived in. My grandfather fought with De Valera.
My grandmother taught us that Michael Collins was a traitor to the Republic of Ireland. She had three brothers that were in the IRA, and all of them were killed.
Funny enough my great great uncle was one of Michael Collins' most trusted men and was once in The Squad
@@padraigpearse1551 wow! Family history is so fascinating. I love reading and hearing these stories.
Eamon caused the civil war and delay effect real independence
Irish patriot
4:57 Kenneth Branagh could have played Michael Collins. The resemblance is amazing.
I think a young Tim Roth(English actor) would have been ideal to play Richard Mulcahy.
Maybe one day he might do a remake. I know Kenneth Branagh was interested in making a film about Irish history . Could have been another Michael Collins film funnily enough
The best Michael Collins was played by Brendan Gleason.
He has 2 interesting sides of his family to investigate
Irish from his Mum
Spanish from his Dad
Incredibly talented actor and yet so humble and genuine. Apocalypse Now, Wall Street, Catch me if you can, The Departed - some of the greatest movies ever made.
Love this man, he was such a good human!!
He's not dead
Not surprising , right?
I mean it seems to fit his personality and beliefs.
I met Martin Sheen when I was 16...a long, long, time ago.
I have always admired Martin Sheen, and hearing his family story makes me admire him all the more.
His uncle was on the right side, “We have declared for an Irish Republic, and will not live under any other law”
Well if you had the choice to stay on the other side of the border and promoted peace...but you chose terrorism
My uncle Sylvie Heaney was anti-Treaty IRA during the civil war. Part of the last unit to be captured and one of the 77 executed by the Feee State.
His name and his comrades names are written on wall in one of the cells in Killmainham, after the news of their unjust executions reached their comrades in there.
Very proud of my uncle Sylvie.
Love this. I had the privilege of visiting Ireland this summer. I absolutely loved it. I can honestly say I felt the presence of all these brave men who fought and died for freedom. Long live Ireland!
Something to be proud of for sure!!!! 💯🎯💪
Re-elect Josiah Bartlet.
I would vote for Jed in a heartbeat.
Martin is such a lovely man and a first class class actor.❤
I'm a huge fan of martian sheen and both of his sons
He has 3 sons
Maybe they are not recognizing Charlie as a son but as a brother?? Charlie sounds & looks so much like him. But yes 3 sons & 1 daughter if not mistaken.
Sorry Tina I didn't realize he was from Mars. (Martian)
Gotta love those martians.
I’m 100% Irish. Born in England and TWICE bombed by the f’in IRA. I detest these third/fourth generation American emigrates who know f’all about the Troubles, did sod all to help and think their ancestry gives them an option. P**s off Sheen. God Save The King 🇬🇧
If Kilmainham prison looks familiar, it's because it's where they filmed the "Mr Bridger" scenes in the original "Italian Job" movie with Michael Caine and Noel Coward.
Think it was also used as Park Royal prison for filming "in the name of the father" as well. Brilliant film.
Irish leaders of the Easter rising were executed there by firing squad also
My favourite actor so convincing in all his roles
You go, Martin Sheen! 😊
I love this man.
I love this man
What a nice man
I'm Brazilian and Spanish descent on my mother's side. I used to think the Sheens were part Latino, only recently did I find out he's also part Spanish.
So he's not Latino? He's half Spanish
He is half latinos ! Spanish people, language belongs to Latina family
Great to see the Military Archives on tv

A fantastic family man and a great actor who has played versatile characters in some if the best and classic films .😂😂
Good bless Michael Phelan, a man of principles. When the day comes and we finally have a free Ireland, people like Michael will receive the true respect they deserve.
Aggghhhhh can't stop hearing The Illusive Man 😂😂😜😁

Everyone is related to the royal family somewhere down the line
Just think…the newest generations won’t be able to read historic documents. They won’t be able to read cursive😵
Can you read old or middle English ? And yet we know what it says
I was thinking of that today! I believe that is EXACTLY why they are trying to eliminate cursive. We better teach our grandchildren cursive ourselves. We must outsmart the demons!
@Craig Grant actually, I can but others had to be able to read it as well
@@CraigGrant-sh3in - Old/Middle English and cursive aren’t comparable. Old/Middle English are languages, cursive is a style of writing.
@@CraigGrant-sh3in the point is that you should not have to get a translation of the U.S. Constitution. There is now a better understanding of neurological development of those who learn cursive.
My daughter was a competitive Irish dancer 20+ years ago. She danced for Gerry Adams at Martin Sheens' house. It was some sort of fundraiser.
I was in Warrington last week. I walked past the 1990’s bomb site where the ira killed and injured 50+ people. Including children.

Yes
Yes his father was Spanish but his mum was irish
Mixture irish Spanish
Civil wars are vicious because people reserve a special hatred towards other people who are similar - but different. Around 45 years ago I watched Robert Kee's extensive television history of Ireland and he interviewed pro and anti veterans : right into the 1930s private scores were being settled on both sides. I understand the " free state" only became a republic in 1949.

Always loved how Irish American people stay in touch with their heritage
My grandfather was also in Kilmainham, Company Sergeant Major in S Dublin E company (I think it was E) but he ended up in the FS army.
A GREAT ACTOR And a great human being.
People like Martin Sheen show how real the connection is between USA and Europe. I hear so many Irish people cursing American people for claiming to be Irish. This quite plainly demonstrates that Charlie, Emilion and siblings' granny was Irish. They are pretty Irish if you ask me. Do all your parents / grandparents need to be of a particular place to claim that heritage ?
That’s because foreign people not from the United States just love bashing Americans for no reason.. I get tired of it because they act like everybody all 330 million Americans are one person when everybody acts differently. That’s just common sense but people somehow forget that when they are talking about Americans.
@@bmorg5190 ironic no? Foreign people not from the usa
Most Americans' Irish heritage is actually Scots-Irish, predominantly from Ulster. Their descendants do not see themselves as Irish.
@@geoffpoole483 Source for this claim?
@@geoffpoole483 You are wrong my friend. Many Irish(from what is now the Republic of Ireland) fought with George Washington"s Continental Army. There was Irishmen at the Alamo. Over 200,000 Irishmen took part in the US Civil War. Over 30 Irishmen fell with Custer. The Irish have the most Medals of Honour of any ethnic group serving in the US Arned Forces. Millions of Americans can trace their lineage to every part of the island of Ireland. Scotch/Irish from Ulster do not have a monopoly of this ancestry.

In these shows I see a re-occurring theme of 'I have this personality trait, and now I know I INHERITED THIS PERSONALITY TRAIT from so and so". This is an interesting topic that has solid backing with scientific studies. We can inherit personality traits, emotions, trauma, and general memory of how to survive in this world from the DNA of our parents. I remember an experiment where they took eggs from the cold north (where food was scarce) and the warm south (where food was plentiful) of the same species of bird and hatched them in a lab. They presented the birds with a simple food puzzle. The birds from the south (where food was plentiful) could not figure out the puzzle. The birds from the north (where food was scarce) were able to figure out the puzzle, implying they were born with a survival instinct belief that "You can find food, but you will often need to work for it".
There is an old Irish saying “Briseann an dúchas trí shúile an chait”…..Breeding breaks out through the eyes of a cat. Or as my dear Dad used to say “an ounce of breeding is worth a ton of feeding”.
Is it not called survival of the fittest?
This sounds like a lot of magical "horoscope" thinking.. "I'm this way because (insert ornately worded pseudoscience)". We dont inherit memories in our DNA... maybe some possible personality traits but some of that is nurture, not nature.
Loved Martin and his son Emilios performance in the movie The War at Home , still one of my favourite films
Should get Charlie and Emilio to do this...
