In this special KC Tool Haul we take a look at Gedore's brand new, engineering marvel, the SilentGEAR Ratcheting Screwdriver. In addition to being silent, this ratcheting bit holder also registers a near zero return angle. The return is so swift, it can't be measured by precision equipment! This is one of the coolest tools we have had on the channel. The engineering evolution is in place all across the spectrum: zero return angle, silent drive, a strong magnet for the bit holder, a neutral lockout for breaking fasteners free and tightening them down, and a unique bit holding magazine integrated in an ergonomic, multicomponent handle. On top of all that, the bit selection is on point for my needs! Once more, a big thanks to KC Tool for sending this one out!
What aspect of this new driver intrigues you the most? If you pick one up, let me know how you like it! And of course, I hope you all had a great Christmas!

*I opted not to put the additional "Christmas Project" in with this video...it was already pretty long. If you are curious, I was using JB Weld to mend the legs on ceramic reindeer from the 1960s...it worked well and they both stand proud (and level) once more!

I've never waited so long to see a screwdriver spin

This is very similar to the RolGear screwdriver made in Canada. Very superior to actual ratcheting. The RolGear locked function doesn't work too well so I might check this out!

I noticed the same...went and got my Rolgear to confirm that it appears to be the same drive

Really enjoy your relaxed video style. I’m not into working on vehicles but I use many of these tools in my construction and maintenance business. Keep up the great videos!

That ratcheting screwdriver was too cool to pass up. Justified it by treating myself to a home drawer upgrade haha. Threw in that striking cap hex bolster #2 Phillips next to it, plus a Wera locking impact bit holder and a pair of Gedore pliers I’ve been eying for a while.
Had to cancel another order from the folks at KC Tool b/c it wouldn’t be in stock in time for Christmas. This makes up for it.
Merry Christmas! Looking forward to more great content and ideas in 2021!

I'm about to buy my first ratcheting screwdriver. This looks the best so far. I think I'm gonna go for it.

Probably be very nice. Got the snap on tzero ratchet and I'm sure it's the same set up. It's amazing in tight spaces.

"Made in Slovenia" means that are made by "Unior" tools .the Flagship of ex Yugoslavia ,but they are very tough tools since 1919..👍an excellent reputation..⭐️

The silent driver....sounds like a cool 1980's movie. The larger handle size and square shape is perfect for my hands. I'm gonna pick one up, sans bits.

Appreciate the effort you put into making this video, but just something to think about... There's a reason content creators try to keep their vids around 10min.

canadian company rolgear had this mechanism formerly. I don't know who invented it, but I'm glad gedore has the rights to make it, it's been a good design in search of a desirable brand imo.

Is there some kind of "click" while turning the direction switch?

  • @markiefufu

Just checked the junk drawer and there sits one of those crappy non-branded triangle handled drivers.
Not sure I'll be getting a silent drive. I like hearing the racheting sounds while working.

After a few years of use (if you still use it and/or used it frequently), how is this Gedore 2169-012 ratcheting multi-bit screwdriver holding up? Any issues to speak of?

Hi. I think Oplast make Gedore screwdrivers + any Hazet drivers that are marked 'Slovenia.'

    • @mmmmmlemons
      @mmmmmlemons 3 года назад +1

Also, from reading tool forums, Oplast uses the Rolgear mechanism and puts it in their handles. www.ashcroftcachecreekjournal.com/news/rolgear-takes-another-step-forward-with-european-patent/

This is similar to the Hazet 810R-1 silent ratchet screwdriver. I prefer the silence over the clicks.

Hazet has a shorter shaft and is locking. Kinda would be cool to have both the Hazet and the gedore with a rolgear solid shaft (non-detachable) I have the rolgear with the replaceable bits and love it! Only bad thing I hear is to not get water or sand in it, rust and binding will happen.

Wait. Are they selling these to the gubment? 70 dollars for a screwdriver? They really emphasized the screwing part. This one is WAY less and has more bit ends. I copied the description from amazon but I am sure you can find them more places. It's 30 dollars to my house! The other reason I like the MLtools one is the bits are 3" long and can reach in tighter spaces because it doesn't have the big adapter at the end. Not only did it take forever to get to the gist of the Gedore screwdriver, but the single most important feature (near-zero return) was introduced last, and its value insufficiently emphasized. Unless you use a ratcheting screwdriver to perpetrate crimes, and daren't be "discovered" by the police, there is no merit whatsoever in silence.
What I'd like to learn is how much torque can be conveyed (by a human, unaided by an added wrench) through the silent clutch mechanism.

Thanks for the feedback. That isn't really my style. A lot of people prefer the in depth approach and back stories, along with additional comparisons. That is why I always incorporate time stamps, to try and cater to people who want to skim. The plan is to eventually go back and make shorter videos as reviews/updates. I don't do click bait, or misleading video titles, and don't care to play the typical YT games. I work long hours and would rather have covered the info in the video than leave viewers with a million questions, or wanting comparisons. I also cover a lot of stuff that isn't mainstream in the US, so I keep that in mind. If you see any videos I upload and the length doesn't appeal to you, you are welcome to use the time stamps, or just skip it. Like I said, I see the value in "super short" videos, but on the initial run thru this is the style I would personally want to watch, so it is what I make. But as a short bonus for you...these are awesome drivers and come highly recommended.
