While I respect and appreciate your opinion josh, I still can't agree with you on this episode, because while many of Applejack's characteristics are on display here, like her pride, and stubbornness, it forgets another aspect of her character that is sorely missing: her appreciation of hard-work. In "Suited for Success," Applejack helped the rest of the mane six make a dress for Rarity, as an apology for making her make dresses that she knew were horribly designed. In "Magical Mystery Cure," she actually HAD Rarity's cutie mark for a while and was trying desperately to create dresses that were fashionable. And she was sweat-shopped by Rarity TWICE in season 4, in '"Rarity Takes Manehattan," and "For Whom the Sweetie Belle Toils." It's reasonable that she'd still consider fashion to be silly after all of that, but it's inconceivable that she wouldn't have an appreciation for how much work goes into fashion.
It's a shame Josh couldn't get Ink Rose for this one, it would have been amusing to see her reaction to Inkie Rose. 16:24 That's one of the things I liked about 'Master Chef Junior', what little I've seen that is.
"If they don't receive the message because you refuse to change the way that you speak to people, then who's really being the stubborn fool here?" I just wish I'd realized that in high school. I said some really nasty and otherwise uncalled-for things and was decidedly officious; reading and re-reading activist publications too much in my teen years, plus the fact that it took me a long time to learn how to hear what I sound like to others... I wound up inadvertently strawmanning _myself_ a lot.
The problem is that having a different opinion and wishing someone harm are by fact two seperate things-it shouldnt need to be pointed out to people who are ignorant to the idea of having a different opinion and treating people equally and kindly being two seperate sentiments. The fact that people inherently mix to the two things is not the fault of the person in question saying a...controversial opinion. Its kind of like the idea of someone saying "critics always need to point out in their reviews that their opinion is just their opinion" when why would someone go to see a critics review unless you wanted to hear someone elses opinion anyway-it kind of comes with the territory-it also comes with the territory that critics sound like they are trying to be objective because they want to sound professionally like they know what they are talking about...which is what is expected when you are a more professional critic that is more educated and informed (or have more experience in the field of film or have at least seen more films) than the casual moviegoer.... There are certain ideas one should just know ahead of time- like knowing a professional may sound like they are trying to be the end all say on a films quality but thats their job and it is just another opinion-just like people shouldn't assume someone saying a different opinion means they wish harm on someone or straight hate them-there are just certain expectations that should and shouldn't automatically be there.
James Wallberg Me and a friend of mine one day had a huge conversation about so many different controversial topics and when we finished he said, “Thx for not going crazy and keeping it mature.” Then we had a conversation about that for a while and it ended in us both agreeing that most Debates are just sad. Both parties are too prideful, and if one party even remotely TRIES to cool down the situation, the other party just sees it as weakness and as usual, ATTACKS, and that only repeats the cycle of PRIDEFUL vs PRIDEFUL scenario.

This episode really spoke to me because I've been in Applejack's position. I was often told that I am too honest for my own good when I was a kid because I always spoke my opinion with literally no filter which usually ended up with me inadvertently hurting a lot of feelings. However being a kid I never understood why people got so upset until I got older and began receiving critiques on my artwork. I realised there was a fine line between an honest opinion and a constructive criticism. An honest opinion is just that; an opinion, its subjective to every individual. But Constructive Criticism takes the Artist's style, vision and mindset into consideration which forms into advice that allows the Artists to reflect on themselves and their work. Rarity was looking for Constructive Criticism. What AJ gave was Brutal Honesty.
4:43 what AppleJack is talking about is waaaay back in the episode Show Stoppers. In that same episode yeah Applebloom rebuilds the club house and paints it up but she also has a talk with Sweetiebell. Telling her she's suppose to use the patterns to get the size right, put the pieces on the mannequin to make sure they are in the right places, and that for the sets she should clean the brushes between colors. There are a few episodes that drop here and there that Applebloom likes being artsy and crafty, something the Apple family doesn't really do
I really loved this review! It had some funny moments but was a seriously fun debate in the episode. I love how you two bounced off one another and in the end, I had to side with Firebrand on the opinion of the episode. Sorry Sharp, hun. Excellent work you two!
I'm not going to lie I sympathize with Applejack in this episode the finer points of fashion are lost on me As is someone who enjoys playing a bard "I'ma seduce the dragon"
I will never understand the appeal of holes in clothing=cool or wearing clothing that leaves you unable to bend your legs. Seriously middle schoolers fashion sense of what is deemed cool is dumb and stupid (holes, skinny jeans, black shirts with skulls? Who are people, Aliens?) Middle schoolers: think skinny jeans with holes are cool Me: Tye-Dye is cooler and better
Great video from the two of you! I very much enjoyed it! While watching this I was reminded of a quote from Rick and Morty "Cause when you're an a-hole it doesn't matter how right you are nobody want to give you the satisfaction." -Morty
I... kinda agree with Sharp Wit here. If you wanna be a critic, you gotta know what you're talking about. I have a talent for culinary arts and I've learned to discern taste by doing taste tests of my products during the preparation process. Maple sausage has a nice hint of maple syrup in it, sharp cheddar and mild cheddar are distinctly unique, and yeah, even if you use different sugars, there is a clear difference in each of them. It's a good thing I'm headed downstate for school in the spring so I can learn more about the industry and actually apply it to what I already know.
I’m glad you uploaded. I’m kinda depressed because I just found out about the whole mini Ladd leaving the group thing. It’s just so hard to take in and I’m feeling really low.
At 15:51 that Blah sounds like the Storm King ( Friendship & Flowers & Ponies & Blah) Sharp Wit and Fire Brand You both did a fabulous job on this episode review. Have a wonderful day.
Maybe I just liked the episode itself too much, but something about this review felt a little... ...lack luster. I was really expecting that Firebrand or his collaborator would have bigger reactions to Applejack ruining Lily Lace’s hat or Strawberry Sunrise’s adorably savage comments on apples. I do love this episode for the most part, but my biggest problem with the episode was Applejack herself. I was okay with Applejack’s portrayal in this episode, up until she destroys Lily Lace’s hat. I know the fandom likes to use the phrase “out-of-character” too much (and often inappropriately), but that really was uncharacteristically mean for Applejack! I get Firebrand’s explanation for how her behavior in the latter half of this episode is still part of her character, but I can’t help but feel that a character flaw this broad should have been addressed much earlier in the show. Seeing Applejack suddenly act this toxic towards someone she has been friends with for several years now, and somehow being oblivious to the damage her “honesty” is doing to Rarity and her fellow artists, feels like major character regression. I definitely agreed with most of the observations made here, especially regarding criticism vs sensitivity. I’ve recently had my own difficulty with this subject on social media. I usually try to be sensitive and open-minded with my opinions, but when it comes to a subject that I am extremely knowledgeable and passionate about (namely hand-drawn animation and movies I’ve grown up with), I’m sometimes unsure how to make a passionate and informed argument, without sounding like I’m shooting down opposing opinions or bullying others into sharing my opinion. I have recently encountered a few people (who I will not name out of respect) who seem to have the impression that I always sound like I’m bullying others into sharing my opinion on the aforementioned subject.
15:28 Yeah, they tried something similar to this with Rainbow Dash, in 2, 4, 6, Greaaat. And there, they blew it! There was too much of Rainbow Dash being uncharacteristically disrespectful beforehand, there was no apology with any sincerity beforehand, and when they finally got to this part, it was too short to be meaningful! I hate that episode so much!!!
This is one of my favorite episodes in MLP. On top of what this video explained about, I love how this episode pokes fun at every featured pony's narrow-minded mindset AND we get a solution to the problem in the episode. Also, the dress blues definitely rock! :D
The one complaint I had was that Rarity was never called out for her lack of control over AJ. I know she trusts AJ to be honest, but if Rarity chose her, then Rarity is responsible for keeping AJ aware of her attitude toward the rest of ponies.
1:00 I literally burst out laughing at that, that is so damn funny and for a Kirin, you are straight fire I think that this episode could’ve done better with a double moral, learn how to take criticism and how to dish out criticism when needed. I make my art solely on criticisms of my best friend who enjoys art like me, but wants me to be better and I go to him whenever I need to be given constructive criticism on my work. I trust him to give it to me honestly, and not openly give me praise for it. He knows how much work goes into perfecting your art style and mine is getting better and better because I refuse to give up, I refuse to put down the pencil and paper and say I quit. I know art is hard and it’s the thing that I love, not everything is sunshine and rainbows. So, this is one episode that needs a double moral in my opinion, taking and giving criticism. 21:40
I've got a friend like that too. They're a bit blunt and harsh but still give good constructive criticism by telling me whats wrong, and what I could tweek or change. Probably the only person who's given me an honest critique without being an absolute 'yay' about it. And I've had a good number of those... My friend's been the one I go to to cry about it and be frustratingly told 'they're right, but just chose harsher words'. But I find even some of the best delivered criticism can be hard to take, especially if you're new to it. I have thrown my pencil, or sketchbook, and been so frustrated I exit a a document I'm writing in. Feeling like some massive failure, wanting to give up... Sometimes I do... For a little bit at least. It's hard to completely stop doing things you love and that you use to express yourself.
Glad to see you taking on a collab partner that you disagree with! We really need more of that. Also, Amy's Baking Company was really hard to watch! Things just escalated so quickly, and I *never* enjoy watching episodes like that!
Thank you, Joshua. Your comparison to Chef Ramsey shows you KNOW where he's coming from. Thank you! So many just see him at his boiling point, and forget the fire it took to get him there, and claim that's all he is; the F-word. No. No, no no no! Chef Gordon is passionate about food and the industry, and he's excellent at what he does. He CARES about food, so it's important to him. When he sees honest effort failing, or when he sees passionate effort being ignored, or like you said, when he sees budding effort growing... He shows kindness and consideration, he shows his real humanity, his empathy. That's why I have such deep, profound respect and admiration for Chef Gordon. And why that respect is given to you as well, Joshua. Now, AJ on the other hand, well... differences of opinion, and all that. He does his thing, and he does it well.
Yup. If Gordon Ramsey is chewing you out, it's because you freaking deserved it. As Josh pointed out, just watch him dealing with kids, it's amazing how supportive and understanding he is with them, and how clearly he cares about helping them explore this field he loves so much.
This review made me appreciate the episode a lot more than I did when I first saw it. Applejack's behavior seemed uncharacteristically mean, but looking back, it makes sense. Critics seem to get harsher over time if they spend too much time criticizing. They get used to finding flaws in everything rather than looking for the good in things.
21:41 I kinda miss that LPS show. it was fun :) I liked Blythe since she was the first Cartoon character I had ever seen that had a different outfit/hairstyle in nearly every single episode (except for a few occasions like a part 1/part 2 thing or she didn't have access to her wardrobe). I liked it. Plus I like how she kinda looked like me.... (mainly the hair lol)
14:31 I definitely agree that the critic might feel the need to use harsher words when they feel like their criticism is not being heard or acknowledged. There’s also something to be said for when the criticism is for a problem that seems obvious to them, but no one else. I know I felt that way when I first started comparing different releases of many Disney films and how much their coloring was messed with! ruclips.net/video/S3-7QHae580/видео.html
Okay, this was good. How you summed up the message of the episode itself and the conclusion towards AJ's vice was wonderful. Really great episode, no particular critique from me.

There are a few episodes that drop here and there that Applebloom likes being artsy and crafty, something the Apple family doesn't really do
15:50-Firebrand, the MLP movie came out two years ago. The Storm King is waiting for his meme.
I really loved this review! It had some funny moments but was a seriously fun debate in the episode. I love how you two bounced off one another and in the end, I had to side with Firebrand on the opinion of the episode. Sorry Sharp, hun. Excellent work you two!
I'm not going to lie I sympathize with Applejack in this episode the finer points of fashion are lost on me
As is someone who enjoys playing a bard "I'ma seduce the dragon"
KalebGrimm I play a bard and I’ve yet to try and seduce anyone in my current campaign
@@dakotasan8719 I would recommend it it's quite a bit of fun
@@kraigshall Oh I'm sure. But I've got other things in my mind. Like incorporating the Guitar Solos from Brutal Legend into D&D style spells.
I will never understand the appeal of holes in clothing=cool or wearing clothing that leaves you unable to bend your legs. Seriously middle schoolers fashion sense of what is deemed cool is dumb and stupid (holes, skinny jeans, black shirts with skulls? Who are people, Aliens?)
Middle schoolers: think skinny jeans with holes are cool
Me: Tye-Dye is cooler and better
Great video from the two of you! I very much enjoyed it! While watching this I was reminded of a quote from Rick and Morty
"Cause when you're an a-hole it doesn't matter how right you are nobody want to give you the satisfaction." -Morty
I... kinda agree with Sharp Wit here.
So you're telling me Applejack is too prideful? That makes her the Lion Sin of Pride.
Twilight Sparkle would’ve been so angry at Applejack for what she did to Rarity for the fashion contest
Apple Bloom is so annoying!! 4:27 😡😡😡😡🔪🎀🔥🔫
18:30
Hold up, isn’t that the same person who voiced Tracy in GTA 5?
Wow a great appel jack episode love it when we get those as they really didn't handle her well in the first season
I love that you opened the episode with Baby Elephant Walk from Hatari.
15:28
Yeah, they tried something similar to this with Rainbow Dash, in 2, 4, 6, Greaaat.
Huh, no expulsion via Party Howitzer. Breaking new ground!
any creature getting American Idol's Simon Cowell or Any cooking contest with Gordon Ramsay as a judge
I agree, just because someone is right, they doesn't mean they have to be an a-hole about it.
The one complaint I had was that Rarity was never called out for her lack of control over AJ. I know she trusts AJ to be honest, but if Rarity chose her, then Rarity is responsible for keeping AJ aware of her attitude toward the rest of ponies.
Finally someone else who loves this episode!
1:00
I literally burst out laughing at that, that is so damn funny and for a Kirin, you are straight fire
I think that this episode could’ve done better with a double moral, learn how to take criticism and how to dish out criticism when needed.
@@kekawinterstar3000
Yeah, this episode could've been good with a double moral
Firebrand when will you review The Washouts?
I need it like chocolate
Is that a fact?
@@bru9383
Yes
that trench coat with all the buttons reminds me of Professor Snape's coat in Harry Potter. and I want it!
I am impressed with the both of you restraining yourselves from going at each other. Good work, gentlemen.
Glad to see you taking on a collab partner that you disagree with! We really need more of that.
Also, Amy's Baking Company was really hard to watch! Things just escalated so quickly, and I *never* enjoy watching episodes like that!
On that Gordon Ramsey bit; my cousin told me about a time where he had to clarify someone's age before he went agro
Omg someone actually knows what Within Temptation is!!!
No firing Sharp Wit out of the Howitzer? Let me guess...
...budget cuts.
Now, procedure was followed. Generally, if they file the proper paperwork or are invited they get to leave of their own accord.
Travis Smith yeah tell that to Thespio
Its funny reminds me what I had to deal with real life. Difference in tone goes a long way.
Good analysis, nice conclusion, and so many delightful references. I heartily approve.
The Trenchcoat looks familiar
Mr X from Resident Evil 2 /the RE2Remake any one?
This review made me appreciate the episode a lot more than I did when I first saw it. Applejack's behavior seemed uncharacteristically mean, but looking back, it makes sense. Critics seem to get harsher over time if they spend too much time criticizing. They get used to finding flaws in everything rather than looking for the good in things.
7:18 Wouldn’t Jeice (Australian) have been a better example pic instead of Dr. Myuu?
21:30 Why is your ending credit music the end credit music from LittlestPetShop? Is it because of fashion?
21:41 I kinda miss that LPS show. it was fun :) I liked Blythe since she was the first Cartoon character I had ever seen that had a different outfit/hairstyle in nearly every single episode (except for a few occasions like a part 1/part 2 thing or she didn't have access to her wardrobe). I liked it. Plus I like how she kinda looked like me.... (mainly the hair lol)
4:04 and everyone's crying at the fact they believe applejack's hat is her father's. WELL? WHICH IS IT HASBRO? HER FATHERS OR A MILLION DUPLICATES!?
xD 0:39 is so me with my friends showing off
The Littlest Pet Shop theme for the outro ended me right there.
The European: “I prefer green”
Me: pukes EGA’s “Say what!?”
Yeah, it's not very.......
*_CREATIVE!_*
*AGGRESSIVE SCREAMING*
Awesome as always guys.
yet another reason why I like Gordon Ramsey
14:31
I definitely agree that the critic might feel the need to use harsher words when they feel like their criticism is not being heard or acknowledged. There’s also something to be said for when the criticism is for a problem that seems obvious to them, but no one else.
I know I felt that way when I first started comparing different releases of many Disney films and how much their coloring was messed with!

FINALLY!!! A REVIEWER WHO ACTUALLY LIKES THIS EPISODE!!!!!!! 😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁
Is the Party Howitzer in the Shop? I haven't seen it for a while. Are you trading it in for a more powerful model?
This review is an excellent example of why you don't skip episodes based on the recommendations of others, draw your own conclusions.
I liked the analysis of this episode. It definitely delved deep into the message of the moral.
Great review
Okay, this was good. How you summed up the message of the episode itself and the conclusion towards AJ's vice was wonderful. Really great episode, no particular critique from me.
19:10 me with the legend of korra
9:30 LITERALLY THE FIRST THING I IMAGINE WEN I SEE THAT!
and thats mainly cause i remember Josh saying he doesn't like AC/DC. but yeah not gonna lie, Dragon force fits that pretty dame well.
Big Macintosh should give the advice, he's too manly for most to get butt hurt when he's helping and it's straight to the point. 🍏
0:41 Just saving this for my book of insults.
17:55 EEEEEY!!! IM PLAYING WARFRAME WITH THIS IN THE BACKGROUND!!! *we all lift together intensifies*
when I saw this episode I was just happy because of the moral
Love the episode, love the video, love the humor, love the message. GG!
Finally! Someone else who doesn't hate this episode!
I also really love this moral: be honest, but also be careful in doing so.
Awesome job with the credit music! Littlest pet shop is the second Hasbro show that I mainly watch now.
Where have you been man !!!
I've been waiting for this
my little brony he was busy
I know it was a joke
Heh looking forward to see what you think of The begining of the end episode.
15:49 Le gasp! You quoted Storm King!
Also, HAVE YOU EVER GOTTEN AN EMBER TO THE FACE? That *insert Flutter sensor* hurts, alot
AppleBloom could've kept the ribbon or what applejacks calls it 'a scarf'
If she tied it around the base of the hat and not under it like a helmet strap or simply make a bow and place it on the side of the hat then stitch it onto the hat.
Apple Bloom is stupid and clumsy. And her voice sounds like crap!
Apple Bloom is also annoying!
I don’t know how the hell Apple Jack puts up with Apple Bloom.
Are you even listening
"Yeah the world isn't all unicorns and rainbows you're right and you're not helping"...awesome quote.
Strawberry Sunrise? Really? She's named after an alcoholic drink? Lol!
for 7:14: the difference being the the voice actors are american and not so popular with some people, and Funimation being a sister company of Toho, and is more popular to most if not all the world.(courtesy of the Godzilla films, and the Godzilla anime trilogy. which the anime you can watch on Netflix.)
13:22 Reminds me of a quote from wonder: If you have to chose between being right and being kind, choose kind.
No worries, yo. Marine dress blues do indeed look stellar. Very handsome and respect-worthy uniform.
16:45 Wow. I wasn’t expecting a reference to _that._
THE PARTY HOWITZER, TELL ME WHERE IT IS! For some reason this video seems off. Hmm. Oh well.
Great episode.
I don't really have a channel myself (yet) but I would love to do a collab with this guy.... Plus, I'm in the Army, so it gives him someone to haze at the same time.
Maybe there's a way for you to ask him directly
Hhhhhhmmmmmm..hopefully you can someday!
