- Fly Fishing the South Island of New Zealand for large brown trout and rainbow trout. The Cedar lodge is located on the Makarora River, just about an hour’s drive north of the adventurist town of Wanaka. New Zealand is particularly special to me, as I first traveled to the country nearly 15 years ago in search of the hidden streams and huge trout known to live there. Then, my wife and I brought only a small camera, backpacks, a tent and fly rods. This time, I returned alone with my camera gear, multi-rotor aerial equipment, an outlandish number of batteries and one rod (packed with a glimmer of hope that I’d have a minute to fish instead of film.) My purpose was to capture a day in the life of Cedar Lodge’s owner Chris Daughters, a U.S. citizen who resides in New Zealand part-time with his wife and two young children. Thanks to the phenomenal helicopter pilot, Dion Matheson, we flew over rocky peaks and into broad river valleys. We landed in remote and trout-packed pools, within reach of giant feeding rainbows and browns. Thanks to Chris, his wife Shauna, pilot Dion and the folks at Cedar Lodge for getting me and my camera to the hot spots. New Zealand has been, and remains to be, my favorite fly fishing destination on Earth. It’s also my favorite place to film, of course! Beautifully done sure... The opening is breath taking and so special as we actually realize the beauty of the NZ and these locales. Downhill from there - far too much "big snout rise" & then watching an "unequal fight" with the quickened music ... Over and over, again. Yeah, yeah... see the bent rod, run around, more music, and be sure and display the trout...
Why do we keep missing out on the total beauty of this wonderland called NZ??? Just more views of the beauty surrounding us there. Like the opening. Our loss...our fault

Editing bloopers? At 3:24 the guy is climbing rocks with a gold nautilus reel, but when he catches the fish his reel is suddenly a black san miguel #2. Love the video ..
Easy to change rigs across the day depending on the river conditions. I bet he had three reels in his bag.
