It’s not his instincts, it’s putting in work off field like Ed Reed, doing your homework and watching film.
i mean, how stupid can the qb be? he's the one best positioned to see troy charging the line, he can delay the snap to either make him stop or catch him offside.

I love that the Steelers called a play for 10 guys on defense and then just let Polamalu do whatever he wanted based on what he saw. Absolutely incredible instincts.

They were two absolutely amazing safeties that were always in the right spot

I love that Polamalu never showboated. He was the definition of act like you’ve been there before and total respect of his opponent.
To me, idc if you showboat or not, as long as you get the job done, and don't catch a penalty/foul it's all good to me

I would be confident enough to say is THE greatest defensive player like him like there are so so many greats just none of them had the mindset he did
It’s crazy how many amazing defensive players had over the years think about how good there defense was in the 70s too they’re had to be so many superstars and now they have tj watt who tied the sack record last season
Hunter Renfrow is the man and I really hope with Devante Adam there they can both benefit from each other's presence. ☠️👍🏽
He had a really good season last year. 103 receptions for 1,038 yards with an 80% completion. My hope is he can improve is YAC with Adams pulling double coverage. Slots never quite get the respect they deserve

@@Dr.Spatula I don't think people realize how ridiculously good an 80% catch percentage is. Even the best rarely get over 65%. It's a testament to Renfrow's route-running prowess and hands
@@MrScotty2Hotty28 All the jokes right now are about Kenny Pickett's small hands, but Renfrow has very small hands (7 7/8") & short arms (29 1/8"). His measurables from the combine look horrid on paper. However, his scouting report said it all about him:
"Take his measurables, throw them in the garbage, & just look at his game tape."
"He's a great route runner. He catches everything. He's quicker than fast. He's a coach's son. I think I checked off all the cliche boxes for a white slot receiver, but they are all true. Watch him work against Minkah Fitzpatrick and tell me if you think he can play."
@@TheNightOwl11683 Game tape don't lie, that's the big thing. But I do also think good wide receiver coaching helped him. Jon Gruden may have been fired but his coaching staff was actually pretty solid
The fact that Polamalu and Ed Reed played at the same time, no less in the same division, was crazy. Probably the two best modern safeties, maybe the 2 best safeties flat out of all time.
Troy had, bar none, the greatest snap timing in NFL history, it was just ridiculous how he managed to cross the line at the exact moment the ball was snapped. He'd start 20 yards out and get a tackle for a loss, it's insane.
Couple of thoughts: Polamalu is unreal! Some of these are just so-so, bad throws or staring down receivers etc.
It was cool to see Belichick get excited about plays, he is so monotone it was cool to see him animated. And if he calls it the best play he has ever seen by a FS then that is really something for Reed!

That play by renfrow is the most heads up play I've ever seen!
Safeties aren't as highly valued as most positions, but when you have someone like Troy or Reed, it shows how important they really can be. I'm a Steelers fan so it's hard not to consider Troy the best, but Reed was right up there also. Would of loved to see those two play together. They would of complimented each other perfectly.
I agree that safety isn’t valued as high as it should be. I’m a Viking fan, as bad as our defense has been over the past 3 seasons I can only imagine how bad we’d be on that side of the ball without Harrison smith. That position is SO undervalued.
@@richardtherichard26 it seems he wasn't getting his recognition as a great player til the last two years or so. Didn't even know who he was, then saw him play last year and it confirmed the recent hype. Dude is a great player.

Kuechly's back to back picks on Romo needed to be on here. That was not just Kuechly reading the plays before it happened, but giving Romo pre-snap looks to goad him into throwing both balls. Best defensive play I've ever seen.

the explanation of Belichick & Colinsworth really makes the Reed clip extremly good fitting just makes people realize even more how much work it takes to be in such perfect position to make a play. Even more impressive how often Polamalu puts these things up, proably the first human to master ultra instinct even before Goku did :p
@Jay20431 Deion Sanders always gave the impression that he just breezed in and it was just so easy. At Cowboys camp, Deion had a tricked out golf cart to get around in. Michael Irvin saw he had a video player in it and Deion was always watching film.
As a Raiders fan, I was surprised to see 3 of their defensive plays in the first few minutes. Not as surprised to see 4 against us the rest of the video.
The Mack pick 6 and the Renfrow tackle on the fake punt have to be my favorites.

I'm a Raiders fan and I like hearing the team and players I root for get the respect they deserve from a team that "hates" us, who we also "hate"
Polamalu such an incredible player.
The cutaway shot to the Patriots sideline after the Butler interception always makes me laugh. Every last one of them snapped into 10 year old mode with the split second realization that they won the superbowl.

The Renfrew play is pretty underatted especially with how far he had to go ... how small he is and he still dislodged the ball with perfect technique.... also polamalu was insane
Hunter Renfrow was not looking to dislodge the ball with his helmet. He was looking to make a form tackle the way he has always been taught to do it. The fact that the receiver turned to the sideline was just gravy on the roast. Where 3rd & Renfrow deserves the credit on that play was his pre-snap recognition. No need to credit him for the fumble, (which was pure happenstance) but do credit him with the awareness to see what was happening and respond to it.
Take his pads away, and he is a guy that does your taxes or balances your books for audit. Give him pads... and he is a heads up football player that can make you miss him if both of you start in a phone booth.
That said, he was a perfect thumbnail for this video.

I am a lifelong Bucs fan, but Troy Polamalu was my favorite player growing up. So much so, I bought his jersey and still have it. Dude was an absolute joy to watch as a football fan.
As a hawks fan, the Malcolm Butler interception still hurts a bit every time i see it. Im just glad that only half of the compilation videos on youtube have it in there. 😅
On the Renfrow play, an offensive player made a defensive play while on special teams.

I think my favorite of those kinds of plays is when Jack Squirek of the Raiders picked off Theismann in the Super Bowl and loped into the end zone. Same game as when Marcus Allen ran that 74-yard reverse-his-field touchdown.

Renfrow's play was by FAR the #1 play on this list. All of the other plays were made by players just playing their position. Renfrow's play had to be broken down by a wide receiver converting to play defense on a disguised play. Renfrow for the win!
That Renfrow play is in my top ten all-time. Incredible hustle and vision.
That stick by Renfrow being last was perfect. A WR breaking up a pass. I kept waiting for it to be in the clip
Some you missed: Ray Lewis stopping Marty Schottenheimer's Chargers on 4th and Goal late in the 4th quarter. Lawrence Taylor pick-6 against the Lions, scoring the Giants only TD that day. Ed Reed 126 yard pick-6 against the Eagles. And with all the Troy Palamalu highlights you missed the biggest one (because it looked like any normal made field goal): Troy racing to the C-gap to force Pat Macafee (the Colts holder) to switch out of a fake FG and back to a regular FG attempt.
Even if you return a pick six from the very back of the endzone its 109 yards

Reallly disappointed there was only one of Luke Kuechly! He was easily the best in his generation and was the very definition of sideline-to-sideline play until the whistle blows. His shorter career is all that could hold him back from HOF.
