I would love to find a giant pile of copper pipes, boat motors, radiators, aluminum copper wire sheets of copper aluminum wheels. Those lug nuts will come off with a cutting torch.
most enjoyable to have a country boy share his day working hard. great that you continue to record often, extra work on the end of your day!! i enjoy it
All of us here in the rust belt she's a tear when we see a clean-to-us OBS ford or square body GM go to the shredder. I know.....you can't save them all!👌
Isn't funny that in two years time there will be so many subscribers on this channel that hosting an annual swap meet would be easy. People on the ground to do logistics and put together pallets for shipping parts home, (ala @irontrapgarage), a list of charities that could get some of the proceeds. Hotels in town that would have happy hours. Prices would would be fair, the comradery would be second to none. The town would love it & people would look forward to it. I've got the whole plan figured out in detail right in this notebook.....wait, Where did I put that notebook? Did somebody see a notebook? I laid it down on a car that was right here a few minutes ago.
When I was a Kid I helped the neighbor junk cars and we hauled them State Steel in Sioux City IA They had the big magnet on their crane and had a huge shredder machine that was like a hungry monster that chewed them up in little pieces
I like how he casually said at the county shred yard yea this stack here I was sure busy yesterday and that pile over there ... that was last week.....
i work at a tire shop and when the caps were missing on a 3/4 lug nut you can use an 18 mm six point socket..that generally works..even when stripped..if all else fails buy an extractor set.
Morning Silas! I can only imagine the cool stuff you come across on a daily basis, it's great that you try & save what you can, like those Ford Explorer 8.8 rear axles...those work well in hot rods...keep up the great work... GOD BLESS!!!
I like all this stuff. Growing up I had a friend here in Mesa Az that had a wrecking yard. I'd grab a soda and a chair and go out there and watch them crush cars. Looking forward to seeing your crusher.
This was the best yet Silas. I like the way you smooth over the comments from others wanting you to save this or that. You know exactly what you are doing with your junk!
another good vid,,, always enjoy seeing all of the old cars and such crushed for scrap metals... that CLAW is interesting too,,, guess these scrap yds don't use the huge magnet anymore (?) and still nice to see these places have a "JunkYard Dog" roam around
HI SILAS-I just found this video I thought you cleared out your woods maybe this Is an old one I saw. What a big claw on that crusher dam how are you feeling now with that bad pain and you had to go to the hospital????? keep In touch .LA.CA.
There's a couple yards where I live in N.C. that have the claws and those operators really know what they're doing. They can grab a vehicle off a trailer yank it up, spin around and toss it up on a pile like it was a rag. It's exhilarating to watch. It just sucks that when I'm in there I don't have time to hang out and watch for awhile.
I chopped my nose half off, I chopped my right thumb half off, I smashed my right index knuckle and finger cut four tendons, and about a hundred and thirty miscellaneous stitches from the scrapyard
@@AdventuresMadeFromScratch Holy Really!! I wish I had known that when I was looking for the replacement of mine. I paid almost 600 bucks by the time it was on the truck, and I still had to paint it to match...which did not go well!! :)
When you clean up old places, is the scrap money from the metal your payment, and do you have to pay the land owner a fee to get access to the stuff or do they pay you for the clean up plus the scrap? Seems like an interesting business
Unfortunately that type of stuff is virtually worthless. For example, you can buy a headlight for $35 on eBay. Shipping is $20, materials are $5, fees are $3.50, and then you have to pay taxes on the remaining profit, so that’s less than $5 I would get for that headlight for the hour it would take to pull, list, and package it.
How do y’all keep from having flat tires all the time? Interesting to see how they pull everyone’s loads and keep them separated until they weigh them, I guess? I figured everything was weighed then trailer weight subtracted. Shows how little I know! I love that these are videos I can watch and enjoy without hearing bad language; thank you, Silas! I’ll be watching for scenes of Kansas in the future, hopefully, since I’m too old and decrepit to ever get out there.
They weigh every load as it comes in. Most people just put theirs in the main pile, but because of the huge volume I ship in they give me my own spot to put stuff.
I could’ve used that seat on the John Deere mower stuck inaise the truck windshield. But I fully understand why you can’t spend all day pulling parts. And I imagine that transmission wouldn’t be good for your tire if it were sticking out at the wrong angle.
It's part of the pandemic,no drivers for many companies and it is also an issue that is affecting your business and video information. If I lived in your area would love to be a part of your crew. I seen that vehicles that may aid people that are willing to take for free to help them get onto a more independent status.
Wish I could get away from my job for a week or two...I'd come out and lend a hand..maybe take an old truck back home with me..their hard to find half solid here in ohio
I scrap and lots of time people give me good stuff I resale the good stuff and scrap the scrap. Lot of scrappers overlook that stuff. I'll have junk transmissions gave to me I've sold as rebuildable cores for 75 bucks instead 5 for scrap if that
It's like demolishing buildings Silas , we always have random people telling us what we should be saving not realising the time it takes to save, transport , store and eventually sell eats too far in to the profits to be viable 🍻
I need to find a way to get your vehicles to Ontario Canada. We repair cars and trucks far worse than the vehicles you crush. I totally get that you need to move stuff. I wish it was financially feasible to ship parts to Canada.
If you dont mind i would like to know more do you sell to the place you work or is there a place you sell to in your town? You must to ok to have the loaders i didnt think about the future i should have bought some bigger trucks and equipment years ago, I love looking around when i sell a load but you always see something that could have been sold or used but it all cant be saved.
I enjoy the content! Although, I have a suggestion that I’m positive others would find it really cool to see the shredder in action! Now that would be really cool!!
Postpone crushing the old cabover’s. They are rare . The Antique Historical Truck Society has a advertising section. Some enthusiast would love to have that Mack.
Even after being "jilted" over what to save cause people are too lazy to come look and start a project resque for what older rigs sell. Ten years from now it might be the 94-97 ford trucks or four door cars that are slowly gaining popularity. You have used easy outs for broken bolts and you drill into it and twist the headless bolt out. They make a socket I call the female easy out and they absolutely work great on those lug bolts/nuts. Sears sold them and seen them on amazon so not real expensive.... nice thing is not looking for right sockets to fit those lug nuts, One size fits all and grabs and spins even lock out nuts off ... hope that will help in the future
Was waiting for the end to ask about what type of wheels (and hubcaps) you might look for and keep. Then, you partially answered the question in the video. But, perhaps you can elaborate more on it. In some of your videos I see several spoked wheels from old vehicles. Is there any value to them? Also, do you know what the end result of the tires is that go in the scrap trailers? Do they end up being melted with the iron is melted or is the rubber separated out somehow? Does anybody know?
The waste like rubber, plastic, glass, etc typically winds up in the landfill after being shredded and separated from the metal. Occasionally it is recycled but not often.
I used to operate a clamshell grapple (3 fingers-2 fingers) I could do more with it than the one he is showing. I would open the hood, then take out the battery without crushing it. Pull the motor out, then pop off the catalytic converters. Flip the vehicle over and pull out the fuel tank. I could even get the fuel tank out of the older trucks that had the fuel tank in the cab. The worst vehicle I ever had to take off a trailer was my Father-in-laws 1958 Chevy truck. That broke my heart. The worst vehicle we crushed was a MINT saleen mustang. (Part of a divorce settlement) It was hard putting the old cars in the crusher. The new cars all look alike, so they didn’t matter. Vehicles that didn’t fit in the crusher, I’d tear apart. The strongest thing on-a school bus was the seat belt. I picked a whole school bus up by the drivers seat, with only the seat belt connected to the bus. Truck trailers (53’) I could tear apart in ten minutes (except for the wheels and axles where they attach to the frame) I’d take dishwashers apart for the customer and get the electric motor out so they would get more money. I used to have 3 sizes of rolled up fences, that I used for brooms to clean up scrap. My Kirby, Hoover and Dustbuster. The dustbuster was for those little trailers that you see at Lowe’s.
Good morning, Just curious what you did with that GS California from the farm clean up job. If restored I am sure it would be worth more than $250,000. Even if it cost 80k to restore, its a tidy profit.
Thank you Silas. That crane operator is so good he could play JENGA with the crane.😂
I mean come on how cool is that CLAW I COULD WATCH THAT THING ALL DAY LOL
I would love to find a giant pile of copper pipes, boat motors, radiators, aluminum copper wire sheets of copper aluminum wheels. Those lug nuts will come off with a cutting torch.
that red 95 ford truck had alot of good parts
You could probably drive to TX.and buy one and drive it back.

clear out and cash in
Dang a 57 Belair 4 door HARDTOP by those explorers! Hopefully her and the 57 Ford sedan will be spared the crusher.
The 'crunchy' sound of money and even the JYD loved you.
Great old iron.
When the Chromecap on a 19 mm lug nut comes off, it becomes 18 mm, I used to run and salvag yard in North Carolina

Thnx!

most of them cars where newr and nicer than i own and drive

Those old 80's grand Cherokees have become a collectors item

That maroon Ford truck at 1:35 when new I'm sure was beautiful but nothing last forever.
it is so nice to see you in such a grand mood, splat.keep your positive mind set.
Willd stuff. You do get to see some neat things...
