Can't wait to try this. This is the first tutorial I found that I dont need to buy any materials for or do a bunch of arts and crafts to make the tool.
This has to be the best "how to make a yarn cake" video on RUclips ! I am a complete beginner to knitting, and can't wait to start...... So looking at a few videos to gain knowledge *_before_* I begin, and am now hand rolling all my skeins of yarn into centre pull cakes as that really makes sense to me. Thanks for posting this for everyone 👍🏼 💐
Great! Thank you so much. I'm a beginner at crocheting, and I did not want to purchase any more supplies. I wanted this to be more of a relaxing hobby, and this trick lets me not get too crazy invested, but to enjoy the actual crocheting part.
Thank you so much!!! I absolutely love the little cakes of yarn and they also take up less space so I was thinking to buy myself a yarn winder but it was before I knew the price of them... apparently to have a yarn winder that makes the job I have to pay AT LEAST 50 bucks... no way! I know that some people find them really helpful and may think they're worth the price but I am a little bit on a budget and I don't think I'll ever spend that much money on a piece of plastic that turns around and twists the yarn... now that I found your tutorial I made my first ever yarn cake and it's absolutely adorable, so thanks thanks thanks😍
Wow, I love it when I stubble across ways to do things without having to spend money. Thank you so much for sharing ❤️ oh sorry I forgot to say, I'm from Aotearoa (New Zealand) & I'm a new subscriber 🥰
Thanks so much for sharing! I've been crocheting most my life and never seen this before. I'm using cakes of yarn for my current project but I like to try this for a tighter cake that looks like it would be less likely to get tangled.
Used water bottles work well also, put the end of the yarn inside the bottle, and twist the cap to secure it during winding. Remove the cap, squeeze the bottle down to remove the cake easily.
I'm doing this on a piece of dowel left over from some project, but i have to hold the little piece of yarn. I love your 'built in' yarn tail holder. I'll try it out right now.
Put cane caps on the end. It holds the yarn in place. It will be located in the pharmacy or in the tool section it maybe labeled chair end covers but there the same thing just slightly bigger. Pull the end off and place your yarn if you like to take a break so it won't unwind
@@bellaswan1459 since my comment I started using dry shampoo bottle (straight tin, no curves). I put the end of yarn under the cap and just wind the yarn. Because the bottle is wide the yarn glides easier when crocheting because it has space to expand after I finish winding.
This is exactly what I was looking for! I tried a toilet paper roll. I wanted something for a small ball of yarn & the toilet paper roll made a huge space in the middle.
Maybe grab a ladle or wooden spoon from the kitchen, or an empty paper towel roll, or a dowel rod if you have one, just tape or tie the end of the yarn to the end
I think I'm too far on the spectrum to be doing this. This my fourth yarn ball tutrorial and 2nd hour and im still getting lost under intense focus im starting to really freak out, anyone have an easier way? i ordered a wind machine but it;ll be a while before it arrives
You can use a dowl with caps, pvc pipe, anything with a cap to hold the yarn. It does take a lot of time and patience but there is no need to do it all at once take breaks. I do have a yarn winder and it's a blessing but unfortunately I can't find it so I'm panicing a little as I have way to much yarn to do by hand. I tend to do maybe 3 and take a few days at not doing it. I can't stick to one thing for to long because of ADHD and I don't want to get to many things going on at once as I get overwhelmed and yes its hard to focus aswell. My advise is wait for the winder. It's the most easiest thing to use and you can do more in a short period of time without feeling super stressed out. If you need to buy a pvc pipe that can go over the yarn holder for bigger rolls. That's what I'm planning to do as soon as I find it. Remember go at your speed and don't stress yourself out. If it doesn't come out looking as in a video then that's ok. Find what works best for you.
We need a wind and twist remix! Seriously made me want to dance hearing you repeat twist & wind twist & wind...wind a bit twist a bit wind a bit twist a bit 😂

A whole lot of my yarn was falling out of its original shape and getting hopelessly tangled. This was super helpful
OMG, thank you so much for this easy explanation. I tried doing it by following other instructors and failed lol.
THIS IS AMAZING!! This is literally so helpful, because yarn winders can get really expensive. Thank you!
Best method ever! Trying it today with a new skein of Felt Fusion hand-dyed superwash merino chasmere yarn
