good stuff evan! I have built bankrolls several times just being very methodical and not being greedy. I find greed to be a major downfall/weakness of a lot of players.

as long as you have studied up on MTTs i think it's a perfectly good idea. Remember, just because you have done well in cash games though doesn't mean you will do well in tournaments (they have different dynamics so it's important to understand the differences). That being said, you'll still have an advantage on the majority of players.
Practice, study, practice, study, eventually you'll understand MTTs just as well as you do cash games!

Hi all. I think this video has some very key points. I'm working on making a bankroll, but I play live cash games (usually small stakes like 1,2). I really like where he mentions studying. My best way to study is to talk to the people that I beat out of pots or that beat me. It gives insight to the hand from another view and you can pick up some info on your opponents. Just be careful what you share. lol

poker blueprint book in cash games states have a 25 buyin rule and if theres a sweet table higher take shots. if you lose 5 buyins drop down.
people sometimes set the bankroll to high like 50 buyins and this is not approachable as some people will never reach this goal. good video.

If you're capable of making 25 BI's why would you be less likely to reach 50? It takes longer, and obviously variance will play a large part in the overall time taken, but it should have little impact on the final outcome.
25 is fine generally but I use 30 to give me a little padding if things go sour. I also think losing 5 and stepping down is too finite a margin given variance. You can easily get it in good and lose 5 buyins over the course of one long session. 10 gives a truer indication IMO.

Hey I just started playing online. Very new but not completely new to poker. Started reading and doing free plays before I worked up to make a deposit, I am on sportsbook. I only did $40 to test where I am at. Went on a variance ride down to $12 but worked back up to $29. My first goal is to get a good bankroll have my room money pay for PT4. Is there a tip to be a little more consistent or is it just due to my low buy in.

I live and play in Nevada and it must be noted that HUD's are not allowed here so a lot of the advantages you're allowed outside of NV are gone. HUD's seem to be a crutch at times and I don't see how they make you a better player so actually much prefer to not have them because it forces me to be a better player. I'm curious what your thoughts are on this and things to work on for playing these games.

I like what you say about poker tracking software in this video and I like what you say about keeping track of one's results in order to be accountable about one's play. It's just a shame you didn't make the link, because poker tracking software automates that last bit. Which is the main reason I invested in it, because I was sick and tired of keeping track of results by hand. The profiling of opponents and spotting the inept at your table sooner then one might do by observing is just a bonus.

25 buyins offers you to jump up in stakes asap.
if you want to progress your bankroll and not grind for the rest of your life at 1 level trying to reach 50 buyins which in effect would take ages and moving up in stakes earning better money is what you want. your case is dependable, some donks would consider AA vs 76 on a certain board texture where 76 is winning varience lol. its all dependent on how you play what style and how many table you play but i feel 25 allows you to progress quick

Just thought i would continue the trend of when i viewed the video. I thought it was a good video and as you correctly say do not be afraid to take a shot i see people never take a shot , take some money out and just never give them selves the chance to move up. As alot of people say do not take a shot unless you have 100 buyins for instance , if you only feel comfortable having so many buyins then fair enough but you can always try a small sample size of 9 or 10 at the next level, try it !

+Cyrus Lever If you are only able to buy in for the minimum you're playing in the wrong games. You should play smaller stakes where you can comfortably sit with 50-200 big blinds.

I was thinking about spending $50 on your MTT guide instead, please let me know what you think :-)

As a sit & go player who has never played at the tables before. Should that person start at the 1/2 cash games to build hes bankroll ? Thanks,So interested..

    • @gripsed
      @gripsed  8 лет назад +3

+PowaH You definitely want to sit at the smallest limits that will stimulate you. Depending on your income, you may want to play bigger than the lowest stakes.
Whatever SNGs you play, find cash tables where the max buyin is 100-200% the amount of your regular sit n go buyin and you should feel good
Make sure you play a limit that keeps you interested (not bored), but not so high that you feel anxious (fearful), that's when you'll find the sweet spot.
Then put in that practice and move your way towards perfect.

AP plays with an edge so will almost win in the end. But we don't know when. Especially with bundling effect (wins/losses bundle together). If we play with 4% edge we still lose 480 every 1000 hands played. Imagine 200 of them bundle together. Some win first then lose, or vice versa. Some never win cos we don't live long enough for the extreme cycle to come around.

In 1994, the US Native Gaming Agreement led to the establishment of casinos all over the world. I initially planned to promote my club, but ended up losing a lot of money. When I sought advice from the people who opened the casino, I was told that the only way to make money in gambling is to play with an advantage ie., learn to count cards and be disciplined. I eventually became a gaming analyst, receiving recognition from experts in the field. However, the gambling industry is often frowned upon and those who engage in it are seen as cheats. Famous gamblers: Stu Unger (OD), Chris Ferguson and Howard Lederer (thieves), Phil Hellmuth (mouthpiece), Daniel Negreanu (retired Pool Hall hustler), Garrett Adelstein (bully, accused without proof), Xuan Liu (charmingly showed cleavage for an edge); who have all achieved success but have also faced controversy.
I learned the game 20 years ago but chose not to switch to poker, which may have saved a bankroll from Full Tilt. The author still supports those in the industry, but refuses to be involved in anything that is "EXPLOITATIVE" or AI aided "GTO".
We need more people like you with their hearts in the right place.

Beat the games at the low limits and keep moving up in stakes. If you start losing drop back down and don’t move up until consistently beating the game. I’ve been at it since 1977 and have made lots of money at poker without any fanfare. I have always been in it for the money and the less attention one draws to himself the better. Quietly take their money and never criticize a sucker, sympathize with them you don’t want them to quit. I don’t play tournaments because I like to pick my games, seat, etc. Have a plan and know when to go to the cage. No drinking as this is a job not a party. If you sit down at the table and don’t see a sucker it’s you.
Online games are not a safe place to play poker for a variety of reasons. Cheating and getting paid are enough to keep me away and I crushed them years ago until the NetTeller scandal.

Bankroll - estimate your rate of winning. If you are a losing player, no bankroll required, cos you will lose it. Set aside a losing fund to learn how to win, like a tuition. 8f you are a winning player, play the same % bankroll as your % edge. If you are a 100% winner, you can play 100% of your money, cos you know you will win. If you are a 1% winner, you play 1% of your bankroll. If you have lost 10%, you calculate your new 100% with remaining 90% money. You will be 99% safe. To be a professional, play 0.4 Kelly. You will never go bankrupt.
