- Dick Clark interviews Madness consisting of Graham McPherson, Gavin Rodgers, Daniel Woodgate, Mark Bedford, Chas Smash, and Paul Smith. Clark asks about their relationship with each other and about the reaction from their national anthem.
Yup - great to see this rare interview, but it's nothing without the performance!
I was at this show too...I was seeing someone who worked for Madness at the time, so this has lots of sentimental memories for me. C'mon guys!! POST IT!!
Madness (at the time of this interview) consisted of Graham McPherson, Daniel Woodgate, Mark Bedford, Chas Smash, Chris Foreman and Lee Thompson. Paul Carrack and Dick Cuthel were session musicians. Gavin Rodgers was an early bass player who left through group in '78.
was gavin rodgers not the drummer of early madness?
eeebee2010 No, bass player. John Hasler and Gary Dovey were the drummers before Woody.
Cosmo Kramer of course Gary dovey I should of known that from take it or leave it film, which didn't reflect on there time with Gavin Rodgers or a female saxophonist I believe they had between lees walk outs, I thought it would have mentioned hassler being the bed and breakfast man also. But I would always appreciate any interesting facts about them you may have.
Do you know who the guy is that sits up in bed in the one step beyond video when carl starts his 'hey you'?
+Mike Benson I think that is Harry Wandsworth, an early fan.
Nobody ever treated Dick Clark like that before....I can see why they are called Madness
Absolutely wonderful, but if I said it once, I've said it a thousand times.....UPLOAD THE MUSICAL PERFORMANCES ALONG WITH THE INTERVIEWS!!!!! I've been looking for this and others from around this period and up til now I've come up dry...needless to say the interviews are cool but why the hell don't you post the rest instead of a "teaser" ???
I still remember seeing all of these UK Acts on Bandstand. My Sister and I would hear a New Group and wonder what part of England they were from.
Gorgeous suggs xx

cosmo was gavin rodgers not a early drummer of madness also does anyone know if mark bedford is gay he hides it if he is and i dont know why?
Bedders is not gay. He's married with 2 kids. Why would you think he is gay?
Cosmo Kramer ive been a huge madness fan since a young child but only recently thought seven guys isent the chance of one of them being gay highly probable, so thinking mark is the only one whith any feminine qualities which I know is being stereotypical and small minded, but became more curious when I read a profile on each member, each profile ended stating the names of there wife and kids, on marks profile it said nothing. Leaving me thinking he might be gay and is not open about it . I was just curious also curious if any of them got mixed up in drugs as I've never heard anything of that?
+Elaine Williamson Mark has two daughters, one called Olivia and I don't know what the other is called. As for drugs, Carl , Lee and Mike have spoken about smoking weed. Lee's song "Samantha" is about an acid trip he had.
THE NUTTY NUTTY BOYS!
Can I see the lip synched performance please.
Natural charm and charisma doesn't quite suit a contrived phoney show with a whooping audience does it eh?
