More of this! Incredible to listen to him go into detail on how he got the shot and the interactions with his subjects.
Awesome.
Can't agree more. I talk to my clients constantly. Sometimes it ticks them off because they're trying to get into a pose or fake smile or RBF. And I crack them. And get them to give me a true emotion in their face. Ask about their dog eating their shoes, ask about their husband always being late, ask about their wife's honey do list. Ask if they've ever been in a car accident. And I also talk about things I've done to make them comfortable telling me about their lives. They will give you real emotion if you make it personal and become a friend. Because usually nobody does that with them. They seriously want to get into a good conversation with someone and be real. In 30 years we look at the pictures, but the ones with a story, laugh, cry, fear, are the ones we remember the moment.
This was the most helpful and encouraging portrait video piece I've seen. An accomplished yet humble photographer not at all afraid to admit something may not have been sharp, or what he expected and providing the "why." Thank you, Mr. Mann, you're an inspiration.
Bloody brilliant! Cheers Mark and B&H for a humble, honest breakdown of what a portrait really is about.
It's abit refreshing to hear a legend admitting he made a mistake at some point but still made it work. Great video
Inspiring! I have been many times in NYC at B&H, actually a must for evry layover and looking forward for a personal attendance at an "event space". I have seen hundreds of these events on line and this caught me for every single minute. To be honest I am running late and just couldn't avoid of dropping a comment, showing mt gratitude. What a magical Sunday morning start!!! Cheers
Lots of positive energy and insights from Mark here, well worth watching
I love the live demo at the end... Nice!
Great information, great work, great interview! Instant fan of Mark Mann!
Really great video! Love his super down to earth attitude and giving us insights on his workflow and what portraiture is all about!
Superb! Very inspirational - honestly one of the best RUclips videos on portrait photography I've seen.
I love Mark’s enthusiasm for faces. I related. Great video
I don't know why but I'm sure I've seen this video before. Even so, I am glad you posted it (again?). Mark Mann is a humble master of his craft.
This presentation was part of our Depth of Field conference earlier this year! We're glad you enjoyed it.
Mark is simply a Genius. Thank you very much B&H for this video
Incredible video! Thanks for sharing. God bless
Mark I love your philosophy on portraits and people. If I could you my portrait photographer it would be you!
This is gold!
Excellent! Thank you for sharing your techniques and methods. Very informative.
Great info, thanks!
EXCELLENT PORTRAIT TIPS! Thanks for taking us back to basics and explaining your thought processes when photographing faces....we appreciate you!
Thanks for watching!
Incredible and powerful images, could you know what lights to use in the final session? I can't understand.
Very enjoyable… loved it… and the length is perfect…. Don’t have an hour for these….
And THAT..is how it's done. I loved it.
It was fantastic to work with this man
I was unfamiliar with mark before this video. Great talk and wonderful pictures.
awesome! btw, what is the ring LED light??
Great video that is not about equipment. At the same time I am shopping for a similar monitor. B&H can you please tell me the specific name of the monitor that is being used in this video? Thank you
Unless it’s a Dell computer and screen 🤣
Although the exact Dell monitor in this video is not mentioned, we do offer the Dell U4021QW 39.7" 21:9 Curved IPS Monitor, BH # DEU4021QW as a consideration.

Of course it's the photographer that counts, but what focal length is the lens that Mark is using?
Great interview.
Sometimes people think I may be too intrusive because I’m looking at them as in a photo, with posing, light, etc.
Interested to know what ring light Mark is using. A fantastic video , thank you
Westcott 18” Bi-Color LED Ring Light
@@bsmart446 thank you
i am the crazy uncle ! LOL
Great video. What is the diameter of this ringlight?
The ringlight shown in the beginning of the video would be close 18", such as the Nanlite Halo Bi-Color LED Ring Light Kit (18"), BH # NAHALO18.

He looks like Kevin Costner esque!
Love this all of it ... except Dell. That part you could skip
Snoop breeze brow hahahahahaha
Fascinating to listen to Mark, and his stories. Shame about the very shoe-horned Dell advert. Took me out of the flow.
Sloppiest Mic placement ever! 🤦♂️
