I was on this cruise several of my friends were on the island and I was on the ship when we had to go back to sea for safety. My friends had a blast thier tour guides took great care of them and we on the ship were fine as well. The biggest challenge was communication between the ship and shore peoples phones died and other tours didn't get as well taken care of. Most of the complainers either had a not so great experience because thier tour guides had no communication or want thier 15 min of attention. The cruise was a blast and in the end we still rocked out

I'm Jamaican and I would LOVE to be stranded in Ochi Rios for 12 hours 😍. It's one of the nicest vacation destinations in the whole country!

You wanna share one toilet with a hundred people? I work in retail, I've seen customers bring dogs into the bathroom, I've seen caca on toilet seats. I've seen dirty toilet paper on wastebaskets. At work, I pee on a tree, it's cleaner and it smells better than our poor ventilated bathrooms.
I’m from Canada 🇨🇦and spend winters here in Ocho Rios! There are about a couple of dozen of us from Canada, England, the USA that do the same for over 30 years. The beach is now closed for a couple of days for Clean up,as well for Pier repairs! There is another Pier that is being used now., where freighters would once dock to load up with bauxite ! We feel safe and have always felt safe here! We contribute to their local economy and have great times! People are really nice, of course there’s always some exceptions! Bad people everywhere! We have Never been scared or threatened by Anyone! If you’re looking for Trouble you will find it anywhere! Jamaica 🇯🇲 has been good to us!

Ok what does murders in Jamaica has to do with bad weather and why is The United States so obsessed with Jamaica’s crime rate they never has nothing to do with tourism let’s talk about the gun crimes and murder rates in the America before we start talking crap about another country shall we?
It's some political thing the ordinary person wouldn't know about. Last year 3 million visitors came to Jamaica and less than 0.01 were harmed and we don't know if the 5 total harmed were dual citizens.

Jamaica's murder rate has long been at or vying for the highest out of any country in the world. What has changed and the reason for the new advisory is that this violence is no longer insulted from tourists who have in recent years been subject to rapidly escalating numbers of violent attacks. If you could visit a country as a tourist with effectively zero fear of violence and that suddenly changed wouldn't you want to know about it?
Here's some info on the Jamaican crime rate: When Michael Manley was Prime Minister, he was leaning toward socialism. In response the CIA brought in guns to help his political opponent (the US has always been meddling in other countries' affairs). Those guns are still there decades later, and the US is now leaning toward socialism. I lived in Jamaica and REGRET moving to the US. BTW, there are a lot worse places than Ochi to be stranded in. I have been there a few times and spent part of our honeymoon there. My favorite beach is there.
What a bunch of whiners. You saw it was raining. I’m sure they said get off the ship. Doesn’t ANYONE think ahead at all? Like, gee… it’s a bad storm and we’re being evacuated… maybe I should bring a blanket or water (even a empty cup for goodness sake), wear a jacket, layer my clothes etc. These are the lemmings of society.
They weren't evacuated, they got off the ship for excursions, a day at the beach, sightseeing, shopping, etc. as people usually do. The day started out with blue sky. We were in line to get off the ship for our excursion when a crew member told us to go back to our cabins because they were closing the gangway because the ship was rocking too much. Shortly after the reopened it for 5 minute intervals then closing to readjust it. At one point the gangway separated from the pier and dropped as people were on it reboarding. They then decided to undock. The damage occurred as we were trying to get off the dock. The rain didn't come until hours later. The flooding wasn't from the rain, it was from the waves.
OOOHHH THE DRAMA! I've been to Ocho Rios Jamaica it's not nearly as bad as there making this out. 1 toilet really and who doesn't understand temporarily stranded. I totally understand why the moved the ship away from the pier I'm sure they were assessing the damage. People need to understand patience in incidents like this. All's well that ends well and no one was injured.
Yes where certain people were taken only had one toilet and no food or water. Or even medication for the people who needed it.
Now I had a great time because our tour actually ended at a location with food and alcohol. We had open bar and free food. So my experience was a party. Some of the other groups not so much

As an eight time Carnival cruise guest I can say they try very hard to take care of their guests. Bad weather happens and that is a risk when you choose a ship

That’s weird because the carnival cruise ship slammed into the dock in San Francisco last year and stranded them for a week as well. I think maybe carnival cruise ship captains need to be investigated.

Honestly....it's not that big a deal...its actually much more unsafe to have the passengers reboard a compromised ship. Probably shouldnt have docked...but passengers can make that call themself too...the waves are crashing and it is pouring...maybe I'll hit the buffet instead.
OK, can we just agree that if you go on a cruise at this point in time that you should be expecting problems like this?
With a pending storm they should have stayed at sea. If they couldn’t they should have used a lot more fenders and tripled up on the mooring lines. We had to sortie from Guam to Japan from 3 typhoons that were threatening to make landfall. None of them hit Guam but one changed course and headed to Japan. For some reason I don’t recall we had to stay in port.

I was on a different cruise that same weekend, different place but we got caught in the same storm. The rain was freezing cold. My roommate got the flu from it but we got back on our ship so I do understand

Bad call on the captain, obviously not trained very well for those conditions or the ship is poorly equipt.

Contrary to the negtative statement issued by the US regarding crimes in Jamaica. I would like to say that Jamaica is one of the safest and best Caribbean Island for tourist to visit today. I think the US should withdraw this negative statement and apologize to the Jamaican government for trying to put a strain on the economy.

So dramatic!!! If they docked that morning, certainly there were shops and restaurants open. People would have been spending money and eating anyway. Certainly there were places to take cover.

Jamaica is not the issue. Carnival Cruise is the bottom tier of cruises; you get what you pay for. Next time go Royal Caribbean or Norwegian.
It appears most of the passengers made the best of a bad situation.
However, from the Ja. gov't legal pov, they were issues of persons with expiring visas, since they were allowed on the island for a day excursion only.
The Cruise Ship Co. was primarily responsible for their welfare. The local US embassy would have intervened, as a last resort.

When they tell you we depart at 12 you get your buts back on board by 11, cruise ships have a schedule for a reason and you’re not so special to not get left, so of course you have to figure out a way to catch up to the ship at your own expense, so being stranded ain’t so cool, paradise or not

The travel advisor is bogus. The rain is warm. There are local hotels and eateries to chill in and your reasonable expenses will likely be reimbursed. It's like getting a free mini-vacation within your vacation if you would accept it. The weather is always an uncertainty.
