My husband and I first saw this performance on television and were so moved we recorded it and played it often...both of us crying at the beauty. My husband has since died so now whenever I play this beautiful rendition of the hymn I feel him with me. Thank you a million times over.
+Mary Jo Roser That is wonderful Mary Jo. May God comfort you and keep you in his loving care. Your words brought tears to my eyes, not to mention the impact this version has on me whenever I hear it. Time for my tissues.
Interesting. I lost a close friend to a motorcycle accident at a way too young age. This was one of his favorite hymns and they played it at his service. I listen to it periodically and it brings his memory up. But it's more than that too. There's a patience and exalting feel to this song to where I feel almost in total reverie when I listen to it. The original composition is as perfect a song that exists. This arrangement somehow lifts it even higher. When I'm carried away by this song I think of how blessed I am and how wonderful the earth and the life that dwells in it is. We're all so fortunate to have this song in our lives.
Mary - I understand. My husband passed away eleven years ago. I feel him with me with music. We loved music & dancing. He would have loved this performance. My best friend is Morman. We grew up Presbyterians & sing this hymn often - this way. We joined the United Methodist Church, because of pressure from friends, and so many hymns are sung differently.
I am not a mormon, but I truly love this! I listen to it when I need to hear some inspirational music, and some music praising God/Jesus Christ our lord. All of you people who have negative comments to say about this. You need to show compassion. Hate, ignorance, intolerance are not traits of Christ. Reconsider who you are before you throw stones at other people, or their faith. Respect, this is not a knew idea.
I have been in Baptist church music as vocalist, pianist and organist for over 60 years and have never, ever heard a more beautiful or worshipful arrangement of this lovely old hymn. I've listened to it numerous times and it still brings me to tears and makes me worship. So uplifting. It's just incredible ! The tempo, orchestral accompaniment and arrangement are perfect. The arranger Mack Wilburg has earned himself numerous crowns to lay at the feet of Jesus in Heaven. WOW ! Gorgeous!
I have to say that I do not believe in the Book of Mormon at all, but if you are not moved by this then you just don't have a soul. People, stop arguing theology because no one is going to read your comment and then change their entire outlook on life anyway. Just sit back, relax, and enjoy this master piece of beauty. If you were in this choir or orchestra and you are reading this, my God that was amazing! Thank you so much for your hard work in doing that.
I was born a Baptist and raised a Baptist. My great-uncle was an outstanding Baptist minister and a very good man. He wanted me to be a minister and attend Southern Baptist University. It is time we loved each other as Christ asked us to. Put away hate, rankor, callousness, and replace it with charity, kind words, peace, love and understanding. I joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints over 34 years ago and have never regretted that decision. I have a testimony.
My precious Ron who went home to be with his Lord and Savior June 13,2011 would listen to this great hymn every morning before starting his day and I would almost bet that he listened to it that morning. When i got his belongings back from Connecticut he had checked on his devotional schedule that he completed that mornings reading. He has never completed another devotional since that morning because he is face to face with his Lord. Amen, Wife of Rons'
My profound condolences on your loss! May your belief that Ron stands in the presence of his Lord be an everlasting comfort. Look forward to that day when he calls you to join him.
Carolyn, I don't know who you are but God does. I don't think I could make it one day if I thought he wasn't with his Lord & Savior. Vickie Now would you pray for my sister Ana, She lost her oldest boy last Sunday and the Memorial Service will be held on Friday. Thank you in the name of Jesus.
I am a admittedly teenager, part of the generation that takes these kinds of music for granted. But in all my years of going to Church and listening to hymns of worship since childhood, I have never heard a more magical song that inspires and uplifts my heart in so many ways. I'm sure there are other people who feels this way and now, I just wish I could have paid more attention to Church and had more chances of listening to these songs. This is an amazing rendition, just absolutely lovely.
And I imagine you have continued to move to higher ground in your Christ-driven service. You wrote this 11 years ago; its 8-16-24 now. How are you doing?
Many have written about the young lady in the choir overwhelmed in tears, I have had the same experience while singing in a choir. Make no mistake, Come Thou Fount tells a powerful story of salvation through Christ Jesus. Most of those moved by it believe in Jesus and will belong to Him forever. Most of those not moved by it don't understand Jesus and probably never will. I am not a Mormon, I do not agree with most of their presuppositions; but I will say Amen to this recording.
There I am...This is a great example of my memories, experiences and performances at BYU. Dr. Wilberg is a musical genius, he inspirs and creates musical masterpieces. He brought my musical training at BYU to the next level. I am honored I was given the opportunity and chosen to be a member of the BYU Concert Choir 1991-1995 and to sing under the direction of Dr. Wilberg. watching this clip brings back so many fond memories!
I was shown this video in a philosophy class at Ricks college in 1999 during a discussion of aesthetics. It was so impactful to me personally, but it has also had a tremendous impact on the style of choir in the Church as a whole in promoting Mack Wilberg and his influence. I have wanted to ask someone who was there performing or in the audience what it was like. Was it obvious from the power of this performance the impact it would have? I’m not exaggerating, if I could time travel this would be high on the list for me as a moment to experience.
I was introduced to this particular rendition many years ago. To me, this is what a Testimony of Christ looks, sounds, and feels like. Music renders this testament even more transcendingly powerful than words alone ever could. God inspired this arrangement of this already wonderful hymn.
Come thou Fount is one of the greatest hymns ever written and this is its most memorable presentation. Hard to imagine this was done over 20 years ago. Thank you BYU Choir and Mack Wilburg for this masterful and timeless presentation. Additional credit is deserved for the Audio Video professionals who edited the results we have just enjoyed.
There are too many people out there who do not believe in Christ, that think it's okay to drink, use drugs, watch awful movies, to lie a little, to be unkind. They need your attention much more. At least mormons help others...that is the MOST important way to follow Christ and they donate and help people around the world and pray for others and do the best they can. You should focus your energy on where it can help. You really should pray and ask God in what ways you can help. Good luck.
Dear Singers of 1992 and especially Ronald Staheli, This song both rent me win twain and solidified my testimony of the Living Christ, when I was but 13. Bind my wan'dring heart to Thee, indeed. Thank you, all of you -- wherever and however you find yourselves.
Here I am, November 24th 2021, my 61st birthday and still weeping to this most beautiful rendition of this great hymn. I first heard it in 1997, I think, and it still tears me up like I did then.
I was part of the Ambassadors of music (100+ member choir) over the last summer and we got to go sing this in cathedrals and in amazing places all over Europe. This is my favorite song, and always will be! Even people that didn't know English cried when we sang this song. Its just that powerful.
Haven't watched this in 7 months and so glad that the detractors are less than they were then. There will always of course be detractors and critics of LDS people.... my wife was one, yes my wife! I was her biggest critic and she mine :) Care for your fellow human beings is what counts, whether LDS, Anglican, protestant, Jew or Moslem - is what matters. This music continues to inspire me about peoples' faith even if I have none. I appreciate a beautifully sung and orchestrated song of praise
Almost 20 years after the performance, and still the most beautiful, inspirational, piece of music to be found anywhere. No one, including MTC, can even come close.
I've been inactive for many years. This hymn makes me really miss the Church. From the worldy spot I'm presently in, I can easily discern pure majesty when I hear it; every time I check in with this hymn, I am amazed how I am struck by it like the first time. One of these days, one of these days...
I have always loved the evident passion these young singers (and instrument players) poured out into this song. To see some of them shedding tears in the process is not a shock.
i love this song! it was played at my mothers funeral! i just wish anyone who wants to debate religion would do it somewhere else! not here! i attend several different churches and enjoy them all! we are all Gods children! love one another!
The double bowing get me every time. I used to watch this every Christmas in Norman, OK - They would broadcast it on Public Television. The girl at the end who just gets it all and continues even when crying. Thank you!
Yes, that girl at the end got to me, too, even as irreligious as I am. When I watched this on television and saw the tears in her eyes, I got tears in my eyes, too.
OK, most people are going to say, "you can get back up, keep on trucking", but they can't have empathy for something of that level. Not a day goes by that I don't consider suicide and how the world was created, in my own words "Damned are those who think". My words are, Jesus didn't die for us to keep beating on ourselves, when he lived he was completely human and God, knew the temptations and had emotions. Because of this connection, he knows everything, and he died to save the world from death
Regardless of one’s religious affiliation, anyone can feel spiritually uplifted from this. It was beautifully preformed and it appeared to be flawless. How amazing is it to see so many individuals come together to make one masterpiece. What truly made it magical was that each person preformed with their whole heart.
this. I've compared it to the other versions but the other versions aren't as powerful. and hopefully you are notified of my comment 10 years later so you can listen once again haha :)).
simply amazing every time i heard it know that is going to get some tears out of me....i cant deny the power of the song and the spirit that is in that room,,,,make me wish i was there hope one day i can cameback to church....
Hello, Christian. I hope by now you have come back to church. If not, it's never too late. I came back after being away for 10 years and it is worth it! I have been back for 20 and I am so glad I did. It was hard, but I have more peace in my life knowing I am living more the way I know I should be living. You can do it. The Lord is there to help you, like He helped me. God bless you.
We Mormons are truly Christians and we raise our voices high to sing the praises to our God and His Beloved Son, our Savior and Redeemer. We love Jesus and always try to follow His teachings.
If anyone ever has doubts about the Latter-day Saints' Christianity, all they need to do is observe the young sister at 5:14 The tear she sheds for the Christ shows how firm a foundation she has planted as a testimony in The LORD.
“Oh to grace how great a debtor” Asking for your help, Lord, though I don’t deserve your blessing we desperately need your help. Asking for the prayers of those good souls who see this. Praying for every soul on earth.
I have been listening to this recording for about 4 years...again and again, even though I am not a Mormon. And it inspires me every time due to the music and the great and dedicated young people who sing it. The Mormon Tabernacle Choir also has a recording of this piece, but it does not equal this young choir. I found it very affecting to see one of the girls in the choir shed tears in belief as their song reaches its peak. I wish I could join them in belief. I cannot. But I respect them and the great song they sing and the dedication they feel. They provide all of us an uplifting experience, whether we believe or not.
Marc Nicholson Pardon me, I hope I don't sound too contradictory, but it sounds as if you already have a testimony of God, or at least the beginnings of one. Why do you feel you are beyond the reaches of belief? If you are touched by the Spirit of the music, why do you feel you cannot believe in what it represents? I don't want to offend. I respect that not everyone will share the same beliefs, but I am genuinely curious about what you have said.
MamaGibbs5 to be honest people dislike for anything now - it's probably something petty like the visual quality of the video...it's the audio quality that counts!
I think if you listen to this song, maybe you can put your doctrinal disagreements to rest just for a moment and just appreciate the amazing grace that is more than we can comprehend.
2/3s of my family are Mormons. I am not. I'm an atheist. But I deeply appreciate the various Mormon choirs, and this hymn in particular, because what they proclaim is a bond among people, and those bonds among humankind and charity towards each other are the best that we can be.
i love this song , i'm mexican , i dont know so much english but i can undrstand , the menssage , really it's like if they were angels and they were sining , it's a beautiful song , it's amazing , i'm mormon , i know it , i live it , i love it
+Kevin Hernandez Eres mexicano, soy gringo y a mi me encanta esta cancion tambien. No importa de que pais venimos or cualquier otra cosa. Somos hermanos y tenemos el mismo Padre Celestial y sentimos el mismo espiritu. Sabes algo? Para mi el himno Roca de Eternidad es mejor en espanol que ingles. No se porque, pero asi es jaja
This is certainly one of the most memorable recordings of a hymn of yearning, humility, and praise I've heard since it was recorded so long ago. I have returned to this recording time and time again. Inspirational. Moving. Pure spiritual joie de vivre!
I must watch this at least once every few months; our local PBS station broadcast it many years ago and it has never, ever failed to move me, often to tears. For me, this performance confirms that God exists, He loves us beyond all human understanding, and He grants us many wonderful gifts to help each other and bring us all to Him. O, to Grace how great a debtor daily I'm constrained to be, indeed!
Come, Thou Fount of every blessing, Tune my heart to sing Thy grace; Streams of mercy, never ceasing, Call for songs of loudest praise. Teach me some melodious sonnet, Sung by flaming tongues above. Praise the mount, I’m fixed upon it, Mount of Thy redeeming love. Here I raise my Ebenezer; Here by Thy great help I’ve come; And I hope, by Thy good pleasure, Safely to arrive at home. PRONE TO WANDER, LORD, I FEEL IT, PRONE TO LEAVE THE GOD I LOVE. HERE´S MY HEART, O TAKE AND SEAL IT, SEAL IT FOR THY COURTS ABOVE. Jesus sought me when a stranger, Wandering from the fold of God; He, to rescue me from danger, Interposed His precious blood; PRONE TO WANDER, LORD, I FEEL IT, PRONE TO LEAVE THE GOD I LOVE. HERE´S MY HEART, O TAKE AND SEAL IT, SEAL IT FOR THY COURTS ABOVE. O to grace how great a debtor Daily I’m constrained to be! Let Thy goodness, like a fetter, Bind my wandering heart to Thee. PRONE TO WANDER, LORD, I FEEL IT, PRONE TO LEAVE THE GOD I LOVE. HERE´S MY HEART, O TAKE AND SEAL IT, SEAL IT FOR THY COURTS ABOVE.
C.S. Lewis pointed out that it is far too easy for us to assume that only the very serious things of life are approved by God. But in God's economy, where so much is upside down, even things that look frivolous, unimportant, wasteful, or playful can be important when they are attached to the joy found in the heart of God's character.
Another Mormon here. (announcing that because of the absurdity of anti-Mormons trolling and persecuting disciples of Jesus Christ) Tears welling up from the musical testimony of Gods love for us and of the mission and divinity of Jesus Christ. Thank you for posting this.
I am not LDS.... Im not of any faith as it happens but that apart, I love this hymn tune arranged by Mack Wilberg. You don't need to be of faith to admire wonderful music and words even if it has a religious base - you just need to be a person who cares for other human beings and who believes in something. Simple really.
I don't want to read the "Book of Mormon" when Scripture is sufficient, thank you. Just remember this chat someday, we all will be judged. I have the authority of my church and Scripture behind me, that's more than enough.
The term “Mormon” has lately been clarified to refer strictly to an ancient prophet by that name and to the book of scripture he abridged. Consequently, there is no such thing as “Mormon music”, “Mormons”, “Mormon Church”, and so on. The people who belong to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints are now known not by the retired nickname, but as members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. It may be a mouthful, but it’s accurate.
David Ryu amidst all the historical facts and such others are giving, I believe it’s pretty clear they’re missing the point of your simple and initial enjoyment of this beautiful song. As a member of this church, Thank you for your compliment! How wonderful you feel the Spirit of God listening to this. A powerful arrangement and performance of this beautiful song. God bless my brother!
I may be Baptist, and I admit that I don't think very highly of Mormons, but worshipping God is what it is, and you can't change that. Even if your a Mormon, Lutheran, Methodist, Baptist, or any other denomination.
You said “I don’t think very highly of Mormons”. Give your head a good shake, Mike. I don’t think highly of islam, but I have nothing but love for muslims. You should rephrase what you said.
Praise be to the Most Holy Trinity. This, a most angelic piece of human endeavour,God must be very pleased, may He grant you all the graces necessary to continue. Thanks to each of you.
My second comment on this moving song. In the beginning God create earth and when he created man he created music and when he created music he created the Mormon Youth Choir and this marvelous song. Trenton Spears
Did the 33 people dislike this because the music was terrible or because it was performed by Mormons? Religion aside, this was one of the most beautiful pieces of music I have ever heard. I thank the combined BYU Choruses and Orchestra for sharing this.
When we reach the heavenly realms of God's glory and encounter the beautiful singing of angels, we will hear nothing more beautiful than this rendition of this beloved piece of music.
I think you forget that the choir is all LDS and the only way you enjoy it now is because they all have such devotion to their faith and are blessed with such talent. They are Christian because they believe in Christ as their savior. They are also world renowned for their talent.
Beautiful song; one of those I listened to on 2 combat deployments which helped me feel the love of the Savior. I have felt His love overwhelm me as I have asked in faith for my family to be protected 12 time zones away. I have felt His reassurance while under rocket, mortar, and small arms fire. I have had my eyes well up as I have communed with Him in Spirit about my eternal salvation, and above all have felt His unconditional love. I've been LDS for my whole life. Please, judge not...
Magnify the LORD with me let us sing His praise together The CHURCH is one foundation His people are the sheep of His pastures Beautiful delivery. Come thou fount, bless us now.
We sang this in Highschool and at graduation it was Incredible! This Hymn Means Alot to me! At this time Mack Wilberg is the conductor of the BYU choir notice that when he went tothe Mormon Tabrenacle choir they sounded the same he is EXCELLANT! Love it!
"Prone to wander, Lord, I feel it, prone to leave the God I love; here's my heart, O take and seal it, seal it for thy courts above." My Lord, My God... this IS my daily cry, my daily plea... Do for me my Lord, that which Can Not do for myself!!!
I heard this over 20 years ago when it was shown in our ward as an inspiration for youth in their journey towards inspiring music. I bought the VHS, and later the DVD with all the folk songs on it. This rendition is absolutely my favorite of all time. I love the feeling of the spirit, peace and joy I get. I even studied out the word "Ebenezer" to find out what that means. Here is an interesting reading on it: www.lds.org/ensign/2014/03/maintaining-an-eternal-perspective?lang=eng I love our Savior, Lord, Jesus Christ. I am Christian. I am a Mormon!
@@DanielBrowne-dz7we : Actually, it is "here" -- the meaning of which is echoed in the first word of the next line, "hither" (meaning "to this place"): *Here* I raise my Ebenezer; *Hither* by Thy help I'm come ...
Kay Gee I said “source”. Your vague dodge does not suffice. I want an authoritative appeal to authority, not simply an unsourced reference such as “Most dentists recommend Crest.”
can someone erase these hate messages? they do such disservice to the message of this wonderful song. i am not LDS but i feel the spirit every time i listen to this song. such faith. such beautiful message. i have taste of heaven every time i hear this. i can never feel an iota of hate whenever i listen to it....
Let us simply disregard all commentary posted by individuals whose bias and closed mindedness does not allow them to feel of the wonderful spirit that accompanies this rendition of this beautiful song. I dare those who do not appreciate this video for what it is to find anything better or more emotionally stirring.
Every Thanksgiving I make a point to shut out everything for a period of time and bathe in this blessing of song...actually the entire DVD, which I have purchased and gifted to several friends and family. I always wonder what might have come of all these fresh-faced, Godly young people. My eternal gratitude to each of you. Maybe some of you can post here. I would love to hear from you.
+Don Smith Mr. Smith, I am the same way, wonder where they all are in life. They must be about 45 now, recorded in 1994 I think. I have never seen anything like this presentation - the absolute intensity of these young people.
+Don Smith Yes, we are all in our mid 40s now. :) It was one of the most wonderful singing experiences I've ever had, and I'm sure that's true for many others. Hearing Mack Wilberg, who conducted this performance, conduct the Mormon Tabernacle Choir today through the same arrangement, made me come looking for the video. What a great thing to find!
+Matt Olson Thank you so much for responding. I am in your debt for the hours of inspiration I have derived from this DVD. Fyi...I perform with a group called The Vocal Majority. We have actually performed with the Tabernacle Choir both in the temple and in Dallas. We released our latest CD in Dec. 2015. Check us out on RUclips...especially our new arrangement of "How Great Thou Art", the "Title" piece of our new CD, which is entitled "Then Sings My Soul"...Blessings to you and yours...Don
+Matt Olson I was in the BYU choirs over a decade later (Men's Chorus), but this and "Homeward Bound" by the BYU Concert Choir were what convinced me to audition in the first place. I have so many great memories of performing in the De Jong.
Hello Brent, While I am not LDS I do acknowledge this faithful interpretation by Mack Wilberg, he does more justice to the composer than do most modern hymnals. The BYU Orchestra and Choir are also to be greatly applauded. Equality before God is determined by divine judgement not by human desires, the LDS/Christianity tension is more complex and serious than what simple equivalency of wording allows.
I saw and heard this concert in 2007 on tv and remember seeing the tears in the eyes of students during this hymn. They did a great job on this great hymn of the Church. Thanks for posting this and also this,Mitt Romney, mormon,is qualified to be President of this country.
My choir along with the rest of my school's district's choirs sand this in a concert less than an hour ago. I'm sad to say that we somewhat butchered the piece. As a soprano 1 (the highest part in a SATB choir) in an audition-based district, I can honestly tell you that the last note of the song resembled the pitch of death. I'm only in a high school choir, so of course the higher notes wont sound so professional, but I'm still disappointed at the level of mistakes we managed in this beautiful piece. There was no real need to post this, but I needed it off my chest.
Please don't feel bad. I'm sure you did the best you could, and that the Lord heard what was in your heart. If there is any fault, it lies with your director, because there are a whole bunch of arrangements of this song, and obviously he or she didn't pick the right one to match your choir.
+Anthony Dawson I just read your comment. I didn't sing in high school chorus nor in college. I'm sure your choir did the best they could. I'm sure your audience felt the meaning of the song and that's what matters. Now about this chorus. This chorus and orchestra is noted as one of the best college choirs and orchestra's in the world and have people who could have attended Julliard and other major music institutions. (I know this because I was once very close to a young woman who sang in this choir and she told me about her and some of the other students and mentors stories.) And when you're in High School your still young and your voices haven't had the training nor the physical maturity to sing like this. We in the Mormon Church have an inspired saying about music, sort of a proverb. "The song of the righteous is a prayer unto me and shall be answered with a blessing upon their heads." Combine that with the words of a popular song when I was young made famous by the great Karen Carpenter "Dont' worry that its not good enough for anyone else to hear. Just sing! Sing a song!" Keep practicing and singing and you will be blessed and all of those who hear you will be blessed too.
I'm saddened by arguments for/against anyone's beliefs. Religion is a private matter. Please, all, do not try and convince others about what YOU think is best. God's presence is all around us regardless of your personal perceptions. This music is proof that God is good. How else can you explain such utter beauty. His love is manifest in the talent on display here. Accept and enjoy this for what it is, a gift from God.
This is Mack Wilberg's best hymn arrangement BY FAR... It reminds me of so many beautiful moments of my life; my pre-mission year (2004), meeting my beautiful wife at the choir where we sang this arrangement, my 2 mission years, and my wedding in 2007. Certainly it is God the fount of all those blessings.
Thank you, BYU music dept.! It may be from 1994, but a timeless and tender performance. I hope the upcoming revised LDS hymn book will welcome this song back. It's been missed!
The statement in stanza two, "Here I raise my Ebenezer" refers to I Samuel 7:12, "Then Samuel took a stone and set it up between Mizpah and Shen, and called its name Ebenezer, saying, "Thus far the LORD has helped us." Ebenezer is the Hebrew for "Stone of Help." Israel had suffered defeat because of its sin. But the people had repented of their sin, God had helped them and they were victorious. Samuel placed the stone to remind Israel that God had them, their victory was because of Him.
We don't have to wait. He has already told the world what he thinks of the prophet through revelation. He has also told us what he thinks and how he feels about those who mock His prophet as well as His church. I was raised "mainstream" Christian, and all I can do is invite you to listen to the message of the missionaries and pray sincerely to ask God if it is true. Other than that, let's enjoy the music that is dedicated to Savior of us both.
I do not like calling this traditional I prefer Classic better. Some of my contemporary friends do not understand but mu heart worships with this stuff. I feel the Holy spirit in me being all fuzzy and warm.
Everyone, stop arguing, please. Just listen to the nice people sing a great hymn of praise to our lord, Jesus Christ. Remember, the spirit of contention is not of the spirit of God.
Prone to wander Lord I feel it, Prone to leave the Lord I love Here's my Heart, Lord , take and seal it Seal it for thy courts above. That has been my prayer for so long.
you may think it sad.... but I watch this clip regularly....weekly maybe....and everytime I see it, I get something new from it..... its a fabulous arrangement with superb singing......
I am not a Christian, but I am a musician. I have sung this piece many times and it is very affecting. Mack Wilberg is a genius and a wonderful musician.
Im a 45 year old grizzly 'ol underground construction contractor....sitting in my truck cry'n like a little school girl watching this video.
Russell Griffin Just goes to show you the power of the love of JESUS CHRIST!!!
That my my good brother is the Holy Spirit working inside you, witnessing of the living Christ. I do the same thing.
Awwww 😢
I hear ya...
Me too.
62 years old and I'm bawling like a little baby. Just beautiful. The power of the sublime is found right here.
🙏
Mary - I understand. My husband passed away eleven years ago. I feel him with me with music. We loved music & dancing. He would have loved this performance. My best friend is Morman. We grew up Presbyterians & sing this hymn often - this way. We joined the United Methodist Church, because of pressure from friends, and so many hymns are sung differently.
Doodads Elton - I feel everything you said. All so true.
Repent and come back to Jesus! LDS is a satanic group
How precious!!!
Carolyn, I don't know who you are but God does. I don't think I could make it one day if I thought he wasn't with his Lord & Savior. Vickie Now would you pray for my sister Ana, She lost her oldest boy last Sunday and the Memorial Service will be held on Friday. Thank you in the name of Jesus.
i will pray today...

If there's a more perfect 6 minutes, 31 seconds of chorus ever captured on video, I'm not aware of it.
The most powerful and moving version of this great hymn I have ever heard. Very moved indeed.
Agreed
I agree!!!
Absolutely
totally!
+Jerrod Wertman "arranged by Mack Wilberg"... Credit where credit's due :)
@@VentureDub the credits due to God
Good luck.
Dear Singers of 1992 and especially Ronald Staheli,
This song both rent me win twain and solidified my testimony of the Living Christ, when I was but 13.
I was her biggest critic and she mine :)
Care for your fellow human beings is what counts, whether LDS, Anglican, protestant, Jew or Moslem - is what matters.
Is today that day? ❤
@@redvass1Maybe. Maybe.
The most beautiful rendition of this song. Have loved this for years.
This was the last song my high school choir did. It was at graduation and I want to go back so badly. The real world sucks. Thumbs up if you agree!
Apphia Kiran Amen.
Hosanna!
Inshallah
If anyone ever has doubts about the Latter-day Saints' Christianity, all they need to do is observe the young sister at 5:14 The tear she sheds for the Christ shows how firm a foundation she has planted as a testimony in The LORD.
“Oh to grace how great a debtor”
Asking for your help, Lord,
though I don’t deserve your blessing we desperately need your help.
I respect that not everyone will share the same beliefs, but I am genuinely curious about what you have said.
this is transcendent
the reason it is so good is because they mean it
regardless of what you think about mormonism, this is divine
The most beautiful rendition of this hymn I’ve ever heard. It always brings me to tears.
This is so beautiful! How are there 82 people hating this?
MamaGibbs5 to be honest people dislike for anything now - it's probably something petty like the visual quality of the video...it's the audio quality that counts!
@kurtdublin yeah, probably a bunch of atheists.
will never get better then this! the music director is doing everything right, wow
This is a Baptist Choir
i love this song , i'm mexican , i dont know so much english but i can undrstand , the menssage , really it's like if they were angels and they were sining , it's a beautiful song , it's amazing , i'm mormon , i know it , i live it , i love it
Kevin Hernandez lol - really excited there Kevin... well the soul actually understands all languages.
+Kevin Hernandez Eres mexicano, soy gringo y a mi me encanta esta cancion tambien. No importa de que pais venimos or cualquier otra cosa. Somos hermanos y tenemos el mismo Padre Celestial y sentimos el mismo espiritu. Sabes algo? Para mi el himno Roca de Eternidad es mejor en espanol que ingles. No se porque, pero asi es jaja
Feeling lots of love for all my brothers and sisters on the earth, especially those from Mexico!
Here's someone that hopes you will come back. God loves you so much. I want to hug everyone after listening to this! Bless you.
This is certainly one of the most memorable recordings of a hymn of yearning, humility, and praise I've heard since it was recorded so long ago. I have returned to this recording time and time again. Inspirational. Moving. Pure spiritual joie de vivre!
This was the first ever performance of this song
I must watch this at least once every few months; our local PBS station broadcast it many years ago and it has never, ever failed to move me, often to tears. For me, this performance confirms that God exists, He loves us beyond all human understanding, and He grants us many wonderful gifts to help each other and bring us all to Him. O, to Grace how great a debtor daily I'm constrained to be, indeed!
Come, Thou Fount of every blessing,
Tune my heart to sing Thy grace;
Streams of mercy, never ceasing,
Call for songs of loudest praise.
Teach me some melodious sonnet,
Sung by flaming tongues above.
Praise the mount, I’m fixed upon it,
Mount of Thy redeeming love.
Here I raise my Ebenezer;
Here by Thy great help I’ve come;
And I hope, by Thy good pleasure,
Safely to arrive at home.
PRONE TO WANDER, LORD, I FEEL IT,
PRONE TO LEAVE THE GOD I LOVE.
HERE´S MY HEART, O TAKE AND SEAL IT,
SEAL IT FOR THY COURTS ABOVE.
Jesus sought me when a stranger,
Wandering from the fold of God;
He, to rescue me from danger,
Interposed His precious blood;
PRONE TO WANDER, LORD, I FEEL IT,
PRONE TO LEAVE THE GOD I LOVE.
HERE´S MY HEART, O TAKE AND SEAL IT,
SEAL IT FOR THY COURTS ABOVE.
O to grace how great a debtor
Daily I’m constrained to be!
Let Thy goodness, like a fetter,
Bind my wandering heart to Thee.
PRONE TO WANDER, LORD, I FEEL IT,
PRONE TO LEAVE THE GOD I LOVE.
HERE´S MY HEART, O TAKE AND SEAL IT,
SEAL IT FOR THY COURTS ABOVE.
WOW the youthful enthusiasm of this musical piece is wonderful!
Plead with you to read the Book of Mormon, that along with the Bible testifies of Christ..ask God if it is truth.
AmandaCaines ...Beautifully said!
I don't want to read the "Book of Mormon" when Scripture is sufficient, thank you. Just remember this chat someday, we all will be judged. I have the authority of my church and Scripture behind me, that's more than enough.
The Book of Mormon is scripture. Another testament of Jesus Christ.
I was checking my email when this song came on and that's when I found out that the professor had canceled class. Today was a good day.
These young people don't just sing this song -- they FEEL it!
Whenever I listen to this Mormon music, I can feel the Spirit of God. Great choir!
+David Ryu While this IS a Mormon choir...this is Christian music...
And "Mormons", being members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints are most assuredly Christian!
Radioactive Lolseres. I hope that after hearing this song you might have second thoughts peace be with you.
Radioactive Lolseres absolutely agree!!
You said “I don’t think very highly of Mormons”.
Give your head a good shake, Mike.
I don’t think highly of islam, but I have nothing but love for muslims.
You should rephrase what you said.
The most beautiful version of this song I've ever heard. My absolute favorite hymn.
I listen to this every Thanksgiving. Thank you God for all the wonderful people, experiences, and blessings in my life.
Praise be to the Most Holy Trinity. This, a most angelic piece of human endeavour,God must be very pleased, may He grant you all the graces necessary to continue. Thanks to each of you.
The lyrics of this song present the wonderful Gospel, and in a beautiful manner. This is not the place to debate LDS theology. Enjoy the song.
I heard this version twelve years ago and it still sounds wonderful to me. 😍💯
Please, judge not...
this has yet to fail to bring tears to my eyes.
Heaven will be filled with music just like this.
Magnify the LORD with me let us sing His praise together
The CHURCH is one foundation His people are the sheep of His pastures
Beautiful delivery.
This is mine as well.
BYU Choir are Voices of angels who sing to praise Gods name.
Always cry when I hear or sing this hymn. What a beautiful singing.
This song gives me goosebumps everytime I listen.
Incredibly rousing. The Mormons have made this hymn one of their standard pieces.
Unfortunately, probably due to copyright trouble, this was excluded from our Hymnbook when it was revised in the 80s...... We all miss it :(
I've always loved liturgical pieces with triumphal endings.
Amen brother.
I am lapsed LDS but get drawn back to this often.and this version by Mack Wilberg is by any measure......simply inspiring.
Here i 'll raise my Ebenezer, hither by the grace I'm come!
It’s not “Here” I raise my Ebenezer.
It’s “ ‘ere”.
It means “before”.
@@DanielBrowne-dz7we : Actually, it is "here" -- the meaning of which is echoed in the first word of the next line, "hither" (meaning "to this place"):
*Here* I raise my Ebenezer;
*Hither* by Thy help I'm come ...
Kay Gee Hmmmmm.
Send me your source.
@@DanielBrowne-dz7we : Um ... pretty much anyone who's literate. "Ere I raise my Ebenezer" simply makes no sense.
Kay Gee I said “source”. Your vague dodge does not suffice. I want an authoritative appeal to authority, not simply an unsourced reference such as “Most dentists recommend Crest.”
can someone erase these hate messages? they do such disservice to the message of this wonderful song. i am not LDS but i feel the spirit every time i listen to this song. such faith. such beautiful message. i have taste of heaven every time i hear this. i can never feel an iota of hate whenever i listen to it....
not active, but when i hear this i miss this feeling, :(
Come back!
J.Kent...I agree 100% !
Hello Brent,
While I am not LDS I do acknowledge this faithful interpretation by Mack Wilberg, he does more justice to the composer than do most modern hymnals. The BYU Orchestra and Choir are also to be greatly applauded.
Equality before God is determined by divine judgement not by human desires, the LDS/Christianity tension is more complex and serious than what simple equivalency of wording allows.
Magnificent rendition.
+Brian Savage God Bless You...!
God's Fount of Every Blessing is for all who love God with all their hearts, body, mind, soul and love their neighbor as their self.
I can't seem to stop listening to and watching this very moving performance. Is this a college choir and orchestra?
Charles Marschall
Yes Charles, I believe it is the Brigham Young University choir
It's the Mormon Tabernacle choir
+Leah Monita Wrong...
It's the BYU choir from back in the 90s
The statement in stanza two, "Here I raise my Ebenezer" refers to I Samuel 7:12, "Then Samuel took a stone and set it up between Mizpah and Shen, and called its name Ebenezer, saying, "Thus far the LORD has helped us." Ebenezer is the Hebrew for "Stone of Help." Israel had suffered defeat because of its sin. But the people had repented of their sin, God had helped them and they were victorious. Samuel placed the stone to remind Israel that God had them, their victory was because of Him.
My most favorite rendition. It makes me tear up every time
We don't have to wait.
This is precisely why I view music, especially this type, as the real religion. All else is just ceremonial bell, book and rituals.
Everyone, stop arguing, please. Just listen to the nice people sing a great hymn of praise to our lord, Jesus Christ. Remember, the spirit of contention is not of the spirit of God.
Prone to wander Lord I feel it,
Prone to leave the Lord I love
Here's my Heart, Lord , take and seal it
Seal it for thy courts above.
That has been my prayer for so long.
you may think it sad.... but I watch this clip regularly....weekly maybe....and everytime I see it, I get something new from it..... its a fabulous arrangement with superb singing......
With isis rampaging across the Middle East and now Europe, we Christians need to derive strength from inspirational hymns like this.
+Jacques Coupal Amen!
I am not a Christian, but I am a musician. I have sung this piece many times and it is very affecting. Mack Wilberg is a genius and a wonderful musician.
spectacular. I saw this when it aired on PBS and was mesmerized by this choir and how beautifully they sang. thank you for posting!!!
