In 1965, the composer of this song, Pierre Barouh, dreamed of traveling the world to meet his idols Joao Gilberto, Vinicius de Moraes, Tom Jobim, and Baden Powell. He got a job working on an old cargo boat heading to Rio de Janeiro but after a month of looking for them ended up sailing home with his dreams unfulfilled...
A few weeks after he got back to Paris, he happened to be invited to a dinner party where he found himself sitting across the table from Vinicius de Moraes and Baden Powell.
Since I've learned about that story, I've come to believe in the truth of Vinicius de Moraes's saying:
'A vida e arte de encontro', or 'Life is the art of encounters'
