you are the coolest dude ever, I needed a refresher course on rhythm and reading and this lesson was perfect
Ross you are an amazing man, I starter learning from your video lesson ,it took me about 3 weeks to master all the exercises and now i am pretty fine in reading sheet music god bless, liked and subscribed , i have 2 feedback
1.exercise 71 , i think there is mismatch between what you played and wt is on screen may be sheet is misplaced with exercise 72
2. exercise 89 ,you played c note in 5th measure , i think this should have been c# since we are in the key of D maj or F#min
Hello your great man
any other parts ?!
WOW! Ross, this is an amazing contribution to the genre of beginner music/guitar instruction. Like Aydin below, I am an "old" guy who has finally committed to learning guitar. About 55 years ago I was given private guitar lessons as a youngster and was overwhelmed by theory and what seemed like tedious, marginally relevant instruction. Had I only been more disciplined then I might be an artist of reknown ( I wish) today. At least I am on my way to becoming one who will be able to play ones favorite songs. I am on lesson 13 of this video now and am sure now that I will stick with this regimen until I know it by heart. Thanks for your help. SUBSCRIBED and looking fwd to learning much more.
I can't believe you sat down for two plus hours, to help us out with reading music. This really helped me and many people out a lot. Thanks you mate.
I wish this video only took two hours! It took over 20 to produce and edit etc. But I am happy to be spreading education around the world. :) More coming soon, be sure to tune into my livestreams. :)
Ross Smith this man is a saint sent from above
Ross the Music and Guitar Teacher well worth it brother! I'll be supporting you from now on. Gonna get your book soon!
hey ross, first of all, thank you so much for your effort, this video helped me a lot!
just wanted to let you know that the script in exercise 71 (1:37:57) is actually in Gb major, while you play in Db major (exercise 72 in fact).
@@JonasLuminas You are right.
Anyone who takes time out of their schedule to help others improve themselves deserves nothing but respect. Thanks A LOT mate. God bless.
You are very welcome! :)

This is for u who are just starting the wonderful guitar journey and got no tutor. Make no mistake this is a real gift , you won't find it anywhere else.
6 yrs old yet never dated. Thats the beauty of music language. Excellent tutorial, even though i'm 6yrs late to watch it, it's as equally helpful now as the day you posted it. Thankyou very much 🤗👍🎼🎶 Watched every excersize without guitar, now to watch it many times over with guitar 😊
You have something for nearly every guitarist out there. You are providing all the theory and fundamentals (on guitar!) for every guitar enthusiast out there. Best of all, you are concise, direct and you skip all the presentation nonsense and hype. I appreciate your generous contribution to guitarists everywhere. Thanks Ross. You are very generous. I'm so glad I clicked on your video.
Such a patient music teacher went thru all exercises in depth, sacrificed over 20 hours to help us all to learn how to read music. Thanks so much Ross, you the best
why do people dislike this video when its literally a FULL tutorial for FREE on youtube
I like your remark. I think these dislikes are shocking. maybe some people are jalous of those who show qualities that they don't have... such as generosity, excellence, free kindness, etc. They don't know that they can start practicing them right now.
Every interaction with the video helps make it slightly more likely to be recommended to other people, this includes dislikes. You're being negative for no real reason.
@@jumbo4billion I like the way you see it
@@jumbo4billion ok
The constant insertions of promo product are extremely annoying and don't match the mellow pace of the instructor. This I noted, but didn't "dislike" the video. You ASKED, I told. Also some "free" things are not worth the opportunity costs or other "costs" they usually come with. Here, for me, it's the same stuff I learned long ago, but was curious as to how it might be taught in modern times. Obviously it's taught with far too many "ads" thrown in by the maker. Folks act like it was a selfless act---not at all, there are financial rewards for those who generate good content and for those who drive traffic to their pay-walled options. These options are better than no options, but they are far from altruistic. They are, however, often good enough for folks, self-learners generally, to advance their skill sets. And that's good. Any more Q's?
As a guitar beginner, after 5 months I go through from lesson 1 to 100. I’m so appreciated u to make this video Ross! It really helped me a lot!
Idk who needs to read this, but don't give up! Keep going!
It may seem difficult at first, but when it clicks.. You'll be so thankful for this gem of an educational video.
I just made it to exercise 32, for the second time!
Honestly, I felt too dumb to "get it" and was quite frustrated. But patience and perseverance will reward you. So keep at it!
I've been playing guitar for more than 60 years FFS! I now need to learn to read music & this course (I bought the book) is just brilliantly conceived & executed. Thank you.
These videos are probably the best resource on the internet to practice guitar sight reading. Thank you so much!
You are welcome!
Thank you so much Ross, it is ridiculous how much this has helped me. I finally feel like sheet music isn't something to be scared of.
This is great I wish more guitar players would learn how to play by reading music. Reading music and chord charts are various sensual and guitar playing. I started reading music in 1983 picked up a guitar the first time in 1974 still play today at the ripe old age of almost 70. I do quite well with a guitar. My fingers are still in great shape. I admire people like you with excellent teaching skills not watching just fingers and knuckles, but actually watching someone teach a guitar in a very excellent way. Thanks for your videos. I appreciate you a whole lot. Have a great day.👍🏼👍🏼😄🎸🎸
Reading music is the way to go!

You are awesome ❤️
You’re the GOAT
Thank you so much for these lessons, these are gold for free. The example being played is everything here. I'm learning to play guitar, I was suggested this video a few months ago, and at first, I thought "I was looking for song tutorials, not really this" but then I thought: "well why not?" I really used to struggle and hate this practice at school, when I had to play it with a flute. Now, being 29, I got so interested, it's a pretty wide range of beats and measures to try and memorize. Thank you Ross.
Thank you, SO MUCH!!!! These kinds of "sight reading" lessons ARE SO IMPORTANT: To be able to train One's eyes, and brain to recognize the individual notes, etc. then to find them on the guitar fret board, and play with the correct fingering technique, and to get the timing right, as well!!! I will practice these many many times, until it gets EASY, and I can go grab a tin whistle, harmonica, or recorder, and play along as well, just to try reading it, and playing other instruments, (in the key of C Major)! This is REALLY Helpful!!!! Thanks, again!!!
Thanks Ross, it's people like you who make RUclips such a fantastic resource. All the best, Phil.
You are very kind. :) It is my mission to get music education to the masses. I have met so many amazing people from around the world as a consequence!
I haven’t read music since middle school... I’m almost 30...needed that refresher.

Ross is definitely the hardest working maestro I've ever seen!!
This is amazing!! I played guitar for 4 years but gave up when I was younger. Over the years I forgot how to read music but this has helped so much!!!
I'm a beginner and it was really hard for me to understand music sheet till I found this video. I'm really really grateful for your amazing patience and teaching method. Respect.
Dude thank you so much this is exactly what i've been looking for. I am genuinely so grateful you put in the time to make this!
Finally I am able to staring to understand how to read music notes after all these years. I really appreciate and thank you making these vids for beginner like me :)
I'm getting your book!! This is what I wanted to learn for a long time. Thank you very much for sharing your knowledge with us. This is gold!!
Sir, you are one dedicated teacher and deserve some kind of award. I woll makr it my business to go through your video as often as i can....thank you.
Hey Ross! I finally finished! I picked up the guitar after twenty years of no playing. I decided this time instead of faking it; I would learn to apply the music so I could apply it to the guitar. I've been through many of the exercises several times and will, I'm sure, go back and review. I've also gone through the Music Theory that you generously shared.
I'm now looking at other instructors and picking up little bits here and there. Biggest thing is I have callouses on my fingers! Thanks again, Kate
please go check Brandon Acker tips vids about posture , how to practice . they helped me enourmously.
A great lesson for sight Reading, I was looking for a class like this. Very useful. Thanks for sharing
Just did my second reading of all 100 exercises! Will do another soon
This is extremely well done and really helped me to under concepts I wasn't quite clicking on my own like eighth notes. The best example of how to read music by reading music.
By lesson 10, I was already "sold", thank you so much!
this is a very powerful start for guitar sight reading!

I am 74 and left guitar for over 2 years. A big thanks to you for refreshing. I am in sweden and dont have aguitar.
My fingers are itching. soon as I reach India I will start.
Thank you again!
thank you so much for ublishing this video. i was wanting to learn to read the music in conjunction to the fret board. im up to excersize 30 and having fun
Nice one Ross, do you know how refreshing it is to see & hear someone using a nylon strung classical/Spanish Guitar?
The amount of time you have put in to record these 100 exercises for the benefit of others. You need commending for your effort, it's a kind thing to give up your knowledge for free. Most decent of you. I started on a nylon strung Alvarez which i still have to this day my father was a big guitar collector and so like father like son. It's a regular ocurrence to see players, who can play quite proficiently but cannot read music. Being able to read and understand the Tab is a serious advantage and enhancses your playing abillities. Again on behalf of those that haven't said it,
thank you Ross.

Definitely any beginner will certainly benefit from this tutorial. Best one.
One can go back in case of doubt.
Better than any music instruction I ever tried. Thank Ross.
This is brilliant and really helpful. I am coming back to music after 40 years so I am finding it difficult. Can get the right notes or the right beat but both together needs a few practice runs. I only have a harpika but the early lessons are great practice for any instrument. I guess as things go on there will be notes my instrument doesn't have but hopefully I will be much better by then. THANK YOU!
It was so helpful. That was exactly what I was looking for. It helped me so much. Thank You!!!!!!!!
I'm so glad!
Brilliant man, extremely eloquent. A tremendous example of a human. Thank you for your selflessness in producing these lessons.
Thank you for taking the time - Best
very helpful video! thanks so much for this!!
I learned how to play guitar since 11 years ago and i'm still learning and want to keep learning even more :) I learned by ear and by watching videos though.
That being said I did start with youtube videos, and despite all the ads you hear about it not working, it definitely does work , because I started out learning things like Iron Man, Smoke on the water, and most Metallica songs that start with a slow acoustic intro, and from there I learned how to use my pinky finger one day while playing the song Sweet Child O' Mine, and progressed to even further stuff :D
Now that I've gotten all that out of the way, i'm very tempted to pick your book for these lessons and learn how to actually read music, that way I can keep broadening my horizons and learn even more styles and way to play :)
Excellent! This is outstandingly awesome! Liked and subscribed. Thank You.
Thanks a lot Ross. You are awesome, God bless you! It is much easier now with your video to learn reading music for guitar.
Regards from Prishtina - Kosovo.
Vehbi Duraku you are very welcome 😀. Please share with your friends and family.
