I just recently got a Ruby Falls Weeping Redbud tree to add to my collection. I have a Flamethrower that is my absolute favorite one, it is just so beautiful. I bought one that I thought was a Rising Sun, but I think it is actually a Rise N Shine instead. I love them all, especially because they have a unique curvy trunk and heart shaped leaves. 🤓

I didn’t know that he had this variet. Mine is curvy trunk so it’s a Rose and shine… good to know! Does it like full sun or shade?

I love redbuds. This year I planted a Golden Falls redbud and two eastern redbuds on my property. Can't wait for next spring already 😅🌸

They're all great choices! Because my space is limited, I've planted a ruby and golden falls this year. I also like the variegated variety of course.

Great choices! I always enjoy getting away from a plain green color!

Great lineup of redbuds. There is one that may not be available yet it's called Zigzag redbud and the trunk and limbs grow in a drastic Zigzag pattern. Hard to believe . To see this tree watch an episode of HortTube with Jim Putnam with guest Dr. Dirr his specimens are something really wonderful. Thank you .

I just revisited this video and wow, didn’t realize how beautiful and unique redbuds are! I’ve only been familiar with the typical ones with the pink blooms. Definitely love that rising sunrise 🌅 one!

We have several redbuds in our neighborhood, southeast Tennessee. They're really nice and i should get one myself. I also have crepe myrtles, red, bright red, pink and white. They bloom from june through fall. My next one will be a purple one, as someone has one across town. Ill go over there next mid june and take cuttings off around the base. Last year ive rooted 20 various crepe myrtles, and in the fall i give them away. In your zone its difficult to grow a crepe myrtle, but i guess now the red tonto can work in zone 6. But they have to be cut way back in the fall and covered with mulch, or leaves. And kept as a bush.

I loved your one stop shop for comparing redbuds! I know you can’t cover them all but was hoping the Avondale was unique enough to make the cut. Thank you! 🙏

White water is a very week tree that wants to die. I would not waste your money on it. Carolina sweetheart is a champion.

I just bought a Ruby Falls last weekend. Wanted a Golden Falls too, but the nursery didn't have them. Now that I've watched your video, I also want Rising Sun and Flamethrower!

I bought a young eastern redbud tree from a nursery that still hasn’t flowered or grown leaves. It doesn’t even have buds. The nursery keeps telling me to give it more time, but it’s well into May now. Is this normal?

    How do they handle wind?

    • @chitowngal2771

I find that they could use some sort of area where they are not constantly getting buffeted by winds. My 1.5 yr old rising sun was split in half during a storm. It’s a mess right now and trying to get the umbrella shape back but it’s still kicking.

Could be temperamental. I had a 1.5yr rising sun and in a storm the trunk split in half about half way. Trying to save it this year and it’s coming back but the shape is all over the place. Lots of new giant branches coming out of the bottom where the trunk is intact.
