Compared to my runs, you were lucky with Sir Alonne. But a victory is a victory. 😊 that last bridge in the aerie... if you destroy to many eggs, you are "rewarded" with a cutscene of a dragon, killing you there by destroying the bridge. Happend to me the first time. Also, now that you got the ashen heart, you can access the memories of all those trees in the Forest of the fallen giants whom are actually not trees, but well... you guessed it... hence the name. The thing about the smaller Knights in the Dragons area is that they bow to you and do not attack you, unless you summon or you flee from a fight with the big guys. Or if you hit them by accidend. You only have to fight the big ones and a special one with two swords who is waiting on top of the stairs. Them all bowing to you is a great scene. Also I like it as a very cool game mechanic.
ahhh yes, the sir alonne fight. easily one of the neatest bosses in the game and a cool boss weapon to boot, you did pretty good against him tbh Now that you got the ashen heart I can talk about it a bit. with that item you're LITERALLY entering "memories" of certain souls or items of things you find, but you cant stay there for to long. I encourage you to back track a lot and see all the things you can use that heart on, its pretty neat stuff tbh. ALSO IF YOU WANT TO, you can hunt around that DLC to find ALL the smelter wedges and wedge all the ash chicks, that way you can complete her souls to use how you see fit, but its a hunt. per usual great vid bass, love watchin you make your way through ds2, and ignore people you go "ewww summons" that shet has been in the game since demons souls, summoning is part of the game. play how you want man that's all that matters

About summoning: It's just lame to see a fog gate in a blind playthrough and IMMEDIATLEY go "Oh well, guess I'll summon then!". With these DLC areas though... yeah, they are made for summoning. Beating those solo is kinda fun if you're a serious Souls enjoyer but that requires tons of trial and error.

Love the spirit my dude, play exactly the way you want to play because that's the only proper way to do it! If you like summons, that's awesome and if you like doing it solo that's great too! The game was designed with this in mind and DS2 SotFS, more than any other souls game, has an extreme amount of summons all over the place, hence the bigger enemy crowds. I've learnt that most people hating on DS2 fit into one of these two categories: 1) People that are unable to make their own fun and 2) People that never played DS2 because they believe the people in category one and thus they must play within a set of strict bounds... ...just have fun guys, don't worry about playing by someone else's fabricated restrictions. However you play to get to the end credits, if you are having fun, you are gaming right!
Well said. Playing should be fun; I never really cared for the "git gud" attitude. As long as the game provides me with an option (sorcery, summons, bows etc.) I will use it. It's sad that there's so many toxic players in the community who believe that the only way to play is going in naked with a bonking stick and annoying/invading other players or trying to gatekeep.

That is a rumor I played by dark souls back before the scholar of the first sin before the DLCs dropped before they changed a whole lot of the map and moved a few bonfires pulled a staircase further out etc that was never the case if you stay on that bridge for too long the dragon will automatically destroy it does it matter how many eggs you roll through that's not the trigger and it doesn't make it happen any faster either take it from an OG I play this game f****** religiously I thought it was pretty damn good am I still play it today if you ever get invaded by a dude who looks like a dragon put the drakeblood sword that's probably me run run as fast as you can or disconnect ain't nobody been able to defeat me so far my first playthrough I got both illusionary rings on the scholar of the first sin edition they moved a lot of boxes swap some stuff up change a lot of stuff but I enjoyed spotting the differences
@tempestblaze2583 ofc they destroy it if you just stand there, even if destroyed no eggs, the timer just shortens with x eggs destroyed. If you destroy 10+ eggs you can't make it across in time m no matter what.

I have beaten this game without dying and without resting at a bonfire with a fresh character no New game Plus trust me when I say this that is a rumor I have destroyed every single egg in that area collected all the titanite lizards and then I walked across that bridge with no problem the dragon will only land on the bridge if you take too long getting across it destroying the eggs doesn't matter.
@@arsia. Now there is a bug that the dragon will instantly destroy the bridge the moment you step foot on it and if you want to say it's cuz I destroyed some eggs I didn't even touch any eggs I went straight for the bridge dragon landed and destroyed it but that's a bug it very rarely happens
Sir Alonne is another good fight but the problem is getting to him because he has that whole army between you and him. I ended up despawning the whole lot before I could manage to kill him. If you wanted to do it later, you could try fighting the dragon that gave you the ashen mist heart. It's one of the more difficult dragon fights overall but it'll nab you another giant's soul. Also fun tip: the ashen mist heart can also be used back in the Duke's Dear Freya area for another boss soul that gives you another good boss weapon, and there's virtually no problems getting it save for the normal enemies you'd have to cut through to get back to the boss area.
Damn i really need to watch the rest of the letsplay. Im 6 DS2 episodes behind because i have been so busy. I love that the videos are long and hope that never changes. But it means that i have to watch 6+ hours lol
Sir alonne is my favorite boss from ds2 and second to only gael of ds3. I played ds2 too much to where I can just handle every fight boss or regular enemy groups, but sir alonne is just the one boss I just can’t get enough of. Plus his theme is just amazing to hear.
its funny how he decided not to summon for the area where its specifically made for co-op so they put a bunch of enemies also do whatever you want personally I like to see some solo boss shenanigans but if its more fun for you then go ahead and summon bruv

If the game decides the actual boss is a run back i will not enjoy it and i will summon. This is one of the reasons DS2 is not that well perceived along with the jankiest hitboxes ever.
Now that you have the Mist Heart you should probably go back to Vendrick and examine his pile of armor. I promise it's just cool stuff. Oh, btw: there are many pieces of equipment that straight up don't tell you things; like the Black Witch Veil (that I think you got in the Gutter) makes you entirely IMMUNE to curse buildup... I didn't know that until recently and only learned it via the wiki. I assume you picked up the Dragon Egg in the shrine. That is given to the trader at the start of the Iron Keep (into the front door and to the right). Have you found the area that gives you four more smelter wedges? To make the ash ladys soul usable you need all of the parts. Oh, and you found the Majestic Greatsword last time. Does it remind you of something from the 1st game? Lore time. The Iron King was a small time nobody. Then Alonne came along from a foreign land and taught him honor and trained his knights (it's why the medieval guys have katanas). The Iron King found lots of iron and became powerful and then arrogant. Alonne was disgusted and couldn't shake him out of his new ways. Alonne abandoned the Iron King and went to Brume Tower. The Iron King went after the traitor and killed him. He saw that Alonne had kept his old throne (the one behind his boss room) and was wracked with grief. He fell out of power and became the nothing mindless monster you find in Iron Keep. Then the lady came along and found the King she was after was already gone so she wandered around and became split up. Then another knight (Vendricks exiled knight) came, fell, and rose as the Fume Knight.
Lore Dump This antic dragon you talk to gives you the Ashen mist heart is not an actually a drgon it was a test of aldia to creat an anticent dragon. But it fell short of being perfect. The Anticent dragons are supoosed to be imune or at least outside of the fire circel. But the dragon can be attacked, wich triggers a boss fight and if killed drops not a dragon soul but a giant soul wich leads to suspect that the dragon actually is a golem. But if you go back to the dear Freya "Spieder boss" there is a memory of a real dragon and his soul. Your fire keeper Shanalotte is supoosed to be an other creation of Aldia and is part of aldias anticent dragon project. An other less likly theory is that Shanalotte is like the dlc princess a part of the corruption of monachs and that she only follows you to corrupt you once you will be an monach, but there is not much that indicates this. The Old iron king had a friend Sir Alonne. He came from a far land "basicly all that is from Japans culture is from that land, like katanas". He helped the king train the Alonne knights "Black knights in the Iron castel" they were named after him. They were extremly loyal to Alonne. But the old iron king in an efford to fend of the undead curse creaded the Huntesman copse to torture the undead and made him self a new Throne out of Irone. Sir Alonne was disgusted by his old friends actions and left his side with some of the Alonne knights. The old iron King went to kill his friend "This is the Memory of Sir Alonne you enter to fight him yourself". It is said that the old iron king killed Alonne with out being hit and so Alonne killed himself by seppuku impaling him self on his sword. This is testament to Old iron kings prime power. But like Gwyn in ds 1 once you fight him he is way past his prime. This can be replycated if one is crazy enogh to kill him no hit and no heal. But once the old iron king had killed his friend he noticed that he was defending his old simpeler Throne. The King preserved the Momory of his friend and placed it near his throne. "There is also the theory that the Smelter demon is made out of iron and the soul of Sir Alonne.The Smelter demon also uses the fighting style of sir Alonne." The Smelter demon (blue) was a test (similar to Aldia and his anticend dragon). The red Smelter demon was to strong to controll and fell the old iron in one swing and sunk his Castel in molten magma ending his rain.

So honestly, gained a little bit help to pass through all the enemies. It's not too bad Of idea, after all, it is in the game, so mechanically Wise you meant to have summons in somewhat way to help you Pass through the run backs But you did an amazing job. Cannot wait to see you finishing the game soon. And honestly, in my opinion, I cannot wait to see you play bloodborne and dark souls 3 soon. Those games be a complete different feeling from what you played all this time. But yee, good job again. One thing that bothers me about Alonne and his knights is they have a huge variance is how quick their attacks animate. Every enemy in DS2 has a little bit of variance but it’s so extreme with Alonne that an attack with a heal window after sometimes doesn’t give you the time to heal, so you are stuck waiting for the safe attacks to come out at a slow enough speed.
FYI if you good enough not to get hit once during fight with sir alonne and managed to defeat him, he will do a seppuku, which is pretty cool to have a boss that feel ashamed getting defeated
And another special thing is, using his soul to make his katana, which special (R2/RT) is the Seppuku. Press Continue did a challenge run with only using that attack, very entertaining to watch
34:21 You didn't simply miss. You aimed to miss. Stop touching your left stick for your character to auto-target. Otherwise you need to manual free-aim with the left stick to hit your enemy. (You can aim your heavy weapon attacks with the stick even when locked on.) Slightly concerning how you're this far in the game and still making this beginner mistake.

Summons are only good if they live, otherwise you're left with a boss buffed 20% for each summon

Kill big dragon. Weapon can be upgraded differently
One thing that bothers me about Alonne and his knights is they have a huge variance is how quick their attacks animate. Every enemy in DS2 has a little bit of variance but it’s so extreme with Alonne that an attack with a heal window after sometimes doesn’t give you the time to heal, so you are stuck waiting for the safe attacks to come out at a slow enough speed.
The game is not hard expect for the dragon part

Smelter Demon and Sir Alonne runbacks are infamous in being among the worst in the entire franchise. They're rough....

FYI if you good enough not to get hit once during fight with sir alonne and managed to defeat him, he will do a seppuku, which is pretty cool to have a boss that feel ashamed getting defeated
And another special thing is, using his soul to make his katana, which special (R2/RT) is the Seppuku. Press Continue did a challenge run with only using that attack, very entertaining to watch

34:21 You didn't simply miss. You aimed to miss. Stop touching your left stick for your character to auto-target. Otherwise you need to manual free-aim with the left stick to hit your enemy. (You can aim your heavy weapon attacks with the stick even when locked on.) Slightly concerning how you're this far in the game and still making this beginner mistake.
