- How lucky I am to have got this prototype Discovery 4 Retracta - A paramotor trike that disassembles in minutes to fit in your car, foot launchable, strong, and light. I fitted the Minari F1 200 Pro Clutch to this one and take it for a quick first flight using the Apco F3 bi. It has the AEF EXO throttle, and APCO reserve chute.

I just discovered your channel. I’m a fat/overweight guy who just started paramotor school in Florida. I’m like 235lbs and 5’11”, very out of shape but commited to this! My first day was hard, extremely exhausting trying to learn glider control. I’ll be foot launching but hope to give more fat/overweight guys like us hope and confidence to go for this and to show them they can do it too! I hope it doesn’t take me long to pick up on this and I hope to not have any mishaps.
Thanks for your videos, I subscribed and I’ll be checking out the rest of your videos as well!
Good look with the journey - consider small trikes too like the Retracta. Best of both worlds
I guess it's been about a month since you posted your comment, I'm wondering how it went for you I have a few pounds on a few pounds plus a couple and I'm wondering if you got the flying okay and if everything went right, I'm in the middle of the foothills of Kentucky and so far I have not found many people that are interested in the sport around here. I would love to build my own trike and I have a 650cc motor with only about 400 miles on it and I've been asking people why that would not work for motor, in order to have all the power I would need that's for sure, if you would please write back and let me know how it went for you, I've been trying to gather enough information before I fully can mend it is day and age it's a lot of money for a retired person, God bless and I hope you're having fun
I finished my training and it went really well.
Being out of shape and overweight made it a challenge but it’s completely doable if you want it bad enough. The first couple days are the hardest while your learning how to kite and handle the wing. You over compensate so much and move so much more than you need to and it wears you out pretty quick. If you have a good instructor and you can push yourself it’s completely doable being overweight. You get breaks and time to catch your breath inbetween flights. When your in the air after taking off you also get to rest.
I finished training yesterday and this morning I went flying on my own. No one to help me and I can do it fine. I have a lot to learn but i have the basics down to do it on my own.
It’s honestly the best 3 grand I ever spent. So so happy I didn’t train with RUclips like I was going to. There’s just so much to learn with this sport
Such an incredible feeling tho and worth every dime
Your weight, but shrink that down to 5'6" and age 52 out of shape guy. LOL. I want to get a sports pilot license after the new rules go into affect. In the meanwhile, I'm going to find the very best, safest trike out there. I'm thinking of picking up an old used sail to learn to kit. Honestly, I'm tempted to learn on my own via just working the wing on the ground with the trike. There are two handles and a throttle. I know it has little to do with fixed wing, but 67 hours of training/solo etc, I'd think once you understand the basics, this would be a pretty darn safe adventure. The idea of me running to launch? LOL. NOPE. It's this or ultralights. I hate to jump into an aero 103, but no way I'm running my fat arse around right now!
Great to see ya back in the saddle mate! I had hoped to feature these at my school as my main trike but we were just never able to put it together with Bob in Au. Looks like a solid piece of equipment! I especially like the 4 segment cage. Good luck with it my friend!!!
Thanks Rick - it's a fantastic piece of kit. Really love it!
Yes, you finally got your arse off the ground. Well done buddy, let those trimmers out a bit and go easy on the brakes you were all over the place. Nice wing, Apco make a great product. I have been following you for a long time and so happy to see you get some air.
It’s a combination of over correcting and also a very blustery day. I was getting thrown around quite a bit and haven’t quite dialled in stabilising the oscillations. Slowly polishing off the rust!
Hi not so fat guy! Hoping to pick up a trike before summer. 235lbs and only 5'6" . Going to need a killer power pack. Cosmo 300 and one of these beast trikes! Need to go get lessons and then I can better figure the sail. Maybe, I'll drop weight one day so I can foot launch. In the meanwhile, thank god for all the new great trikes and safety options!
That dashingly good looking chap in the black jacket on 2 minutes seems to know his stuff 😂😂
🤣🤣 - what an oracle
I have a Fly Luna, and it’s definitely the best Ive ever used. It was expensive, but man, what a joy to fly.
Nice job mate.. Great to see u back in the air again!!!. Nice set up. 1 of a kind!
Thanks mate

Ay up Shaun. I’ve just found your channel. Had the pleasure of meeting you on the first day of my Club Pilot course at Northern Skies. Love the content. Hopefully meet at the field in the near future. Subscribed 👍
Look forward to meeting you again - how did the course go?
@@FatParamotorGuy It went brilliantly thanks mate. I’m just trying to get in the air as much as I can now. What a hobby paramotoring is!!!
Digging the music
Nice to see you back in the air. Its been a long haul. Let us know how the Minari holds up after 50 or so hours.
Will do Tom 👍
Watch that G,force. Looks like your on for the next Hovis advert.😂👍 Ey by gum.
🤣🤣
Want to see you fly that beauty..😅
There’s footage in the video 👍
That air box vibrates so much, is there just that one clamp that holds it on? It appears to be just a couple inches away from the prop.
+Michael Kennedy The box has since has a second rubber mount attached holding it secure 👍
I'd put a firewall between the fuel tank and the battery. Just .020 steel
I agree - I’m intending to have a steel box made for it 👍
Looks good and good to see you flying. Is there a safety strap for that airbox? Couldn't see one as it bounced around on idle. Wouldn't want it going through the prop if it ever came loose.
Yes, there was a support strap added after that clip in the video which both stops the wobble and secures for safety
How does it feel?............Finally!!
Great to be back!
Very Nice
Thanks Gerrard 👍
Being that you live in the UK, why did you not buy a maverick with titanium matching trike?
While they’re a great paramotor they’re very expensive and aimed more at the footlaunch pilot. The Discovery 4 Retracta is a stronger frame, and has the trike baseplate built in making it easier and quicker to swap between footlaunch and trike.
Sweet Motor . What do you think about the 50 HP Minari ?
Not seen it up close. We don’t have a legal class of tandem in the U.K. to fit it to, so I don’t think there’s one in the country yet. This 200 is very smooth.
I'm curious if this can be used on any paramotor or just certain brands? Hubs and I are going to be learning to fly soon, and we're definitely gonna need a trike (both of us are old, one of us is fat and one has dreadful knees xD) but we lack a certain amount of safe storage space to put a large trike in. Something like this would be ideal, and so I'm trying to learn all I can about the subject.
+@Mentalrose2 The Retracta Trike fits some, but not all paramotors. This is the Discovery 4 which has the trike adapter built in so can be converted between trike and Paramotor even quicker
Shaun, never mind the trike nonsense. How’s the plane build going?…😂
I’ll be on it soon - off to Bulgaria for a couple of weeks then I’ll be back at it 👍
@@FatParamotorGuy have a nice time Shaun, see you at the shenanikins
i need 300 lbs trike motor and sail
Exhaust looks very close to fuel tank maybe just optical illusion
Probably a combination of both. I could reposition the exhaust further away, but I feel there is adequate distance. I'll keep my eye on it though - cheers for the observation 👍
