These days, people all over the world are taking to the streets to demonstrate against the war in Ukraine and for peace. Last week, there was also a large demonstration in Berlin with half a million participants. Manuel was there and asked the people why they were demonstrating and what message they had for the Ukrainians.
In diesen Tagen gehen überall auf der Welt Menschen auf die Straße, um gegen den Krieg in der Ukraine und für den Frieden zu demonstrieren. Auch in Berlin gab es letzte Woche eine Großdemonstration mit einer halben Million Teilnehmenden. Manuel war dort und hat für euch die Leute gefragt, warum sie demonstrieren und welche Botschaft sie für die Ukrainerinnen und Ukrainer haben.

That is a nice idea. But they have videos sorted as per levels A1, A2, etc on their channel. You can have a look at videos in the playlist section. The videos are very helpful to learn german and entertaining as well. Wish you all the luck!!

I mean maybe some phrases like " I am a refugee. I need to find shelter and food." Maybe some tips on how to orient yourself in the city like Berlin, how to use the transport. It’s not ‘even’ - Russians are mainly against the war, the reasonable part of the people, that is.
But now we are under unanimous hatred of the majority in the world who won’t ever care to consider details like that.
A nation of 140+ mln is not one person.
There are Russians against the war but it unfortunately isn’t as simple as “Putin bad, Russian people good” because there are many, many Russians who are actively supporting what’s going on in Ukraine. And besides, saying these things is not going to make Russian soldiers leave Ukraine, the people in Russia need to summon the courage to overthrow the madman dictator running their government. It’s not enough for them to stand idly by while their country is invading its neighbor because they will be blamed in the future regardless of whether or not that blame is justified.

I am from Russia and I as well protest against this nightmare. The way our government calls it "An operation for achieving peace" already sounds ridiculous!
My dear Ukrain, the sister country, - don't lose faith! Justice always triumphs. This war is like a spring - it will show who "pooped" and where.
I came to protest at the place near Kremlin, but all peaceful oppositioners were chased and some were arrested. Almost got caught myself. A van with arrested people had got into a road accident and people got hurt.
An old lady, who survived a blockade in Leningrad (old St. Petersburg), was protesting as well, and those armoured savages has taken her away as well (as if they didn't really care about those, who faought for their peace nowadays 😭)
I say it - bc a lot of russians care and we demand justice just like you. Because there's Hope for justice to triumph over corrupted and bloodthirsty politicians! We won't stop protesting, even if "they" arrest us every day!
We are with you! We are one!

You are very brave for doing this. Please stay safe. But you act better than my ancestors did. They chose to comply with a crazy man and look what happened. We will forever have that blood on our hands. So doing nothing you would be to blame just the same as my great grandparents were. So sad to hear about the old lady. They still know what war means and that common people suffer never those who risk our future. I think a school friend of mine is living in St Petersburg. I had hoped to visit it one day. I dream of a Europe that is united with a free Russia as friends. It will not happen with that man. Everyone says he his such a strategist but in truth Russia could be so much more and is now totally dependend on China. It is so sad. I really hope we won't see the continent on fire again. I hope you will not get into trouble for writing here.

I know, that even among German society of that terrible regime were a lot of oppositioners who fought for freedom of their people and the people from abroad (also I read "The Book thief" and was pleased to learn, that a lot of German civilians of WW2 weren't pleased with their government. The story itself now reminds the nowadays of Russia ;---; )
A big tragedy of us - is that there are millions of people who were brainwashed by insane propaganda from TV. My personal tragedy is that EVERY member of my family supports Putin. So every time we discuss politics - we end up yelling at each other.
When they celebrate another attack of our army that took lives of thousands of Ukrainians, I sit and drown in my own tears next room. I can't believe they let Putin make puppets out of them 😔
I'll pray to the Almighty to make Putin reveal his true nature and everyone would turn against him! The war must be stopped at once!! ✊
P.S. - I'm so fond of Germany, bc It's people don't let anyone mess with their history no matter how dark some ages of it can be, so you won't let the horrors of the war repeat
My heart is with you as much as with Ukraine. I cannot help comparing your situation with that of Germany (where I was born) under the Nazis. I know this is a stark comparison, as Putin has not murdered thousands of opponents, but the principle seems the same - he is winning some support by controlling the media and intimidates the others. I never fully realized this before the invasion of Ukraine; in my view, he had a point blaming the West, as I thought Nato's expansion to the East was not a very wise move. But now I wonder myself if Nato is necessary. Anyway, I admire and appreciate your protests and pray that your voices of reason will prevail before another 50 million die and many more will be physically and emotionally handicapped.

However, getting arrested cannot be compared to the killing, raping, constant bombing, dying without food and water, destroyed homes what people in Ukraine suffer from Russians. And if not a few thousands but dozens or even hundreds of thousands of Russians go to the protests against Putins regime and agains this unjustified war, there will be no enough police officers to arrest all of them. Otherwise, Russians remain slaves to their crazy ruler. And those who believe to Putin’s lies and propaganda are the same as the Russian soldiers who do all those horrible things in Ukraine and the blood of Ukrainian people is on their hands.

В российских городах проводятся митинги против войны, но всех кого ловят избивают, сажают и облагают штрафами(на ютубе полно видео с этих митингов). Du meinst das serbische Belgrad. Ich erinnere mich sehr gut an die Massenmorde, die durch Serben begangen wurden. Die Bilder der Massengräber habe ich bis heute vor Augen.

Ich bin eine internationale Studentin in Deutschland. Auch wenn ich keine Bekannte oder Freunde habe, die aus der Ukraine kommen, habe ich starkes Mitgefühl mit den Ukrainerinnen, weil die Menschen, die momentan unter dem Krieg leiden, sind normale Menschen wie ich. Ich habe ein paar Videos aus der Ukraine geschaut und bin wirklich traurig für was den Menschen in der Ukraine passieren. Ich hoffe den Krieg so möglichst schnell vorbei gehen und möglichst wenig Leute verletzt werden oder was schlimmeres haben🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼

I have been living in Russia my entire life. I was born while Putin ruled, I was going to school when he ruled. I am now in Russia and HE is still ruling. I haven’t chosen him and his friends, as well as all my family and friends. I support Ukraine and bring my apologies for this nightmare. It’s hard to accept that Ukrainers will never forgive us. But I hope that together we will stop this crazy man. I’m sorry that we haven’t done this earlier, but the situation is much worse that you can imagine. Fuck the war💪🏼

I do not support war, but it's just crazy how hypocritical EU and USA are. When US & allies bombed Yugoslavia in 1999, nobody cared about civilians and country's economic devastation, even everyone supported it!? The same goes for Syria, Afghanistan, Lybia, Yemen, and many many more countries. I am just sick of people who do not treat every human life equally!!
I dont think you should generalize that. There were lots of people protesting against all of the other conflicts you named, in Germany as well. There are lots of people who care and who do indeed treat all human life equally. But every single conflict is different and has their different receptions.

In russian there is a saying "молчание - знак согласия" (silent means consent) - and it perfectly describes what ordinary russians do. They do nothing. They have done nothing against this war. Personally, I do not hear any specific differing accent. As a German native speaker and someone who deals with languages on a regular basis I can confirm that he spoke 100% clear standard German. The 'charm' might come from his voice and modulation.
