  • This was an interview with the entire band DEATH on 12-13-1988 backstage at Backstreets in Rochester, NY when DEATH was on their "Leprosy" Tour. Ron got us backstage and he runs the mic. I interviewed Death, although Ron asks a few questions too. This was aired a week later on my radio show "The Metal Force" which aired from Sept.'88 to June'89 on 93.3 WIRQ-FM every Friday 5 - 8pm. Taking part in the interview is Chuck Schuldiner (vocals/guitar), Rick Rozz (guitar), Terry Butler (bass) & Bill Andrews (drums). Chuck & Rick do most of the talking. This was the first ever interview I did. I was 17 at the time and a Sr. in High School. I had only met Evil Eye Ron the month before and this was the first show we went to together. The night we announced this concert on my radio show was the night I met Ron. So this is quite nostalgic for me since Ron was my best friend for 27 years before dying in 2015 of bone cancer. Plus Chuck Schuldiner passed away back in 2001.

Damn, Chuck Schuldiner really hated Kam Lee.
Chuck - 4:03 "Me and Rick with an old drummer who, his name doesn't need to be mentioned 'cause he's worthless"

Regarding the cover songs. During that time thrash bands were covering 60s and 70s rock songs left and right. Placing them in the middle of the albums. Death eventually did Kiss and Judas Priest cover but really only as bonus materials.

I love death but it cracked me up when they were hating on bands who do covers on their album and the next few albums that's exactly what they did lol

Yeah they became a completely different band that's why, everything said here doesn't apply to anything post-1990.

The problem with looking for old school death metal interviews is that the interviewers are always so amateur lol
