About Kanchanbala devi dasi
HG Kanchanbala devi dasi in her teenage years was very intently searching for the true meaning of life. She was going to Music and Art High School at the time. She had read numerous books on Eastern religion and had felt something was 'missing'. After a number of months, her first contact was hearing Srila Prabhupada's beautiful Happening Album that was being played in an unconventional place, " the League for Spiritual Discovery'. It was located in Greenwich Village, New York. There were so many records there in the Meditation room, but Srila Prabhupada's chanting was so resonating.
In a short time thereafter the 'League' was shut down. Then, with a progression, she started going to the Temple on 26 2nd Avenue about September-October 1967. Srila Prabhupada was not there physically at this time, yet she heard about him. During her first visit, she was taken upstairs and felt such a sacredness and purity in Srila Prabhupada's quarters, surely something she had never experienced in her life before. From that day forward, she started going to the Temple.
