If you remove the two screws, it won't hold the handle in place. So you can unscrew the screws every time you need to remove the handle but then you have to put them back when you want to use the handle. This mod will allow you to just use the clips and easily remove the handle to fit the box in the back of your truck. Typically, people that have a truck cover can't fit it with the handle. Hope that helps.

He’s not explaining when he drills the 1/4” hole, he is actually drilled through the outside most handle inside the sleeve for the handles (the inner handle slides into the outer handle, hence why he said take it out) The clip just holds the outer most handle through the drilled holes. This way you don’t need to unscrew the screws each time you want to remove the handle, you just unlatch the clip!
Great fix but I will say this. When you put the handle back in it’s going to be a pain to line up that hole.
