I love seeing you two do shows together. Absolutely.
I was a little nervous when you said "How to not look like a 1980's corporate man....". Because when I dressed my brothers for a wedding in the late 1990s, a cousin told us we all looked like bankers. I think that was his vocabulary because he didn't how else to word it. Especially with the ties I chose for my brothers.
Thankfully, I think my look is perfectly current for today's sartorial fashion standards. Maybe always there. But it came from a place of practicality and not style.
My first MTO shoes I bought last year I specified with a double-rubber sole. For a penny loafer. Not only do I love this style loafer, but I walk a lot here in New York City. And it's for casual wear which fits with anything in that genre. And the shoes I'm buying now have somewhat thicker soles because of the walking which have been derby shoes/boots. And the thicker soles look fine on derbies. Maybe perfect.
Separates. Knitwear. Vests. All check-marked. Mostly, because it gets cold in NYC but I don't want to wear an overcoat or maybe in addition to one. Again, very practical. But the first time I saw that was in the 1989 Batman movie. I saw Michael Keaton wearing a suit with a sweater underneath the jacket and thought that looked good.
Lastly... The Man Bag. Gosh, I've had one since the 1990s. I bought it solely for practical reasons: I didn't like the look of a wallet in my back pocket and I just started carrying too many things that I needed. If I had a jacket with half-dozen pocket, that would technically work. But that looks so bad. And having a big wallet in your back pocket can cause back problems. Seriously. It's a known issue.
I took a decent amount of heat for having a man bag in the 1990s. But no so much anymore. My first was an Armani that I had for about 15 years. It was made of nylon and when that finally aged, I got a gorgeous Il Bisonte bag. Looks good with anything I wear it with.
    Thanks for the helpful video!

I think the "banker" look is when it is too uniform. Too much of a suit that once was 3 piece but now is a 2 piece. To not look like a banker is to have your own flare, something that shows your own interests and personality. Not garish, but not a text book workplace dress code.

Recycling suit separates, layering different shades, playing with watch strap colors, and carrying a tote are all natural to me as an active father who is always wearing out clothing chasing after my daughter. 34:49 perhaps a copy of a satchel, in a veg tan leather, with brass buckles? For a more casual bag, something similar in a heavy canvas like those made by Duluth Pack. They actually have a product just like I am suggesting and they call it their mini haversack, a little bigger than the average lady's purse, not quite the size of a briefcase. Leather and canvas are available it seems

Hello Hugo and Sonya! Just wanting to share some of my experiences..
I am 22 years old working in IT as a data scientist. My colleagues in the team I am in mostly wear sweaters, jeans, sometimes trousers with a semi-formal shirt. I arrived in a polo shirt to the interview as I knew the dress style was casual. I hadn't looked into the world of suits at all as I am from the countryside and no one I know wears a suit, everyone is casual.
I went to Jakarta, Indonesia for a holiday trip with a friend of mine and just decided to get two three pieces, bespoke, and one linen jacket. I fell in love. But I didn't know anything about wearing a suit, luckily I stumbled upon this channel and it is lovely. I haven't worn my bespoke suit just yet, mostly seperates as even wearing a suit jacket creates comments like "Oh seems like we got a new CEO, nice to meet you" from my colleagues. I just continue wearing it though, but it causes me to be hesitant to even go two piece, let alone use my 3 piece suit. Likely also my age comes into play, as the overall stigma is that older people wear suits. Being in IT where in general people do not dress well, makes this also quite difficult to pull off... I love dressing up, just don't want to be completely out of place all the time. I find it extremely difficult to get the right balance for an occasion, causing me often hours a week to figure out my wardrobe just to get an outfit for casual occasion that includes a suit jacket as I love wearing that. It often comes down to random pops of color such as my socks, whilst being monochromatic, and having a colorful wristband and necklace. Also, the linen jacket is awesome due to its nature of being wrinkled, just unfortunate that here in the Netherlands it is cold and windy haha.
I still have a lot to learn and get used to the comments from the casually dressed crowd, but you guys make the learning a lot of fun so thank you for that!

I am truly inspired by the gentleman's outfit at 23:07 in this video! His ensemble is extraordinary and aligns perfectly with the day-to-day wardrobe I aspire to build, particularly in settings where suits are not the norm. Could you provide detailed guidance on how to construct a wardrobe based on the foundation of this look? Additionally, I would love to know the model of the backpack he is wearing.
Thank you both for continuously producing such exceptional content. Your insights and style have profoundly influenced my sartorial journey.

Funny that you guys recommend suit separates right off the bat: as a tall, lanky guy that doesn't have to follow a dress code, I haven't had a suit in almost a decade. It's all odd jackets and trousers for me.

Great tips, thanks for sharing. My last pair of glasses were definitely an upgrade. Not bespoke but a nice natural buffalo horn. One general comment. I believe that today, men who are wearing suits, unless they truly must, such as traditional Swiss banking, are doing so because they want to, not need to. As a result, there are much more interesting looks and many of these tips are being used. By the way, thanks for listing the IG accounts, and keep up the great work! Cheers from Zurich.

I sweat a lot, sometimes through my trousers, even if I'm sitting in an office chair all day. So it's important to me that I'm wearing cotton trousers that I can wash frequently. As a result, I'm always always wearing odd jackets with odd trousers. I get my cotton trousers made custom with pleats, no back pockets, button fly, suspenders, etc., anything possible to dress them up, but they're still cotton trousers.
I like it a lot - I think it lets you put together nicer color palettes.

I absolutely LOVED this Sartorial Talk! It gave me so many ideas to get out of the rut I seem to be in. I love Sonya's precision in ideas but also in language! She's fantastic. And, of course, I had to start following Alberto Córdoba! And, that's when it hit me... it's pronounced COR-do-ba because the accent on the ó tells the reader that the regular rules of pronunciation do not apply here. One must put the accent on the accented syllable...so, Sonya was right! It's pronounced Alberto COR-do-ba. (@Spanish speakers... please correct me if I'm wrong. I speak English and French and only a little Spanish). Wonderful talk Hugo and Sonya!

Just discovered your excellent channel. As a lifelong British Mod I have always aspired to elegant dress, if not to your immaculate and rareified level. My daily dress is well cut trousers, Ben Sherman button down shirt, cashmere sweater, and Jeffrey West brogues or boots. For more formal wear I lack the means (I have a classic Jaguar XJ to maintain) for tailor made suits so I have to settle for good quality off the peg, which I choose with care. Keep up the good work.

A general comment about the series. I am getting great value from what you both do. The candor is very impressive. Hugo is a Frenchman who seems so comfortable going back and forth from French to American culture. He admits his personal and stylistic prejudices, he will say something to the effect, "I didn't know about that American brand but it appears to be well-made, but style and taste-wise it is not for me." Going to visit Trenton and Heath- great idea. And watching this one and the episode where you each can challenge the other on any topic, is impressive. Sonya and you both strong, independent personalities but allow kindly for each other's opinion. I haven't found episodes of you guys in Japan. Is that in the works?

The first step in my sartorial journey happened to be my glasses and to your point, glasses can make a statement or can provide that signature look. I spent a lot of money over the years on various brands, Chrome Hearts, Blinde, Paul Smith and Oliver Peoples to name a few. What I discovered was the less expensive frames today can be just as elegant or striking as you simply have to look diligently to find that diamond in the ruff. Like anything you wear even glasses, a good fit is a priority.

Hello Hugo and Sonya. Very entertaining discussion with nice talking points. Also nice outfits. I especially admire your tie Hugo; it has an elegant dimensionality to it. Who made it? Tie Your Tie? Also, beautiful light grey suit. It is very visually pleasing how the suit and your hair have some kind of harmony about them. Is the cloth a heavy flannel by Hardy Minnis/HFW? And those tortoise shell glasses are distinguished.
