Unfortunately, I put poor Herbie Hancock in the grave early😅. He is still living and is 84 years old. Please forgive my mistake 👍🏿

No problem brother. Happens all the time. RIP though to Howard Rollins (1950-1996), Adolph Ceasar (1933-1986), Sidney Poitier (1920-2022) and director Norman Jewison (1926-2024) 🎬💔🕊️

Masterpiece of a play/film + your best review to date which is saying a lot. Adolph Caesar gave one of the best performances ever in any genre. Also we were introduced to the magnitude of Denzel’s powerful presence in film. All of the actors gave memorable performances.
I guess it’s only right to review Ragtime sometime in the near future.👍🏾

Watching this movie, you see so much star power. From a performance by a young Denzel, to Adolph Caesar’s swan song, just talent everywhere. I still need to check this movie out.

This is one of the greatest military movies of all time. Here are some fun facts: Denzel Washington, Robert Townsend & Art Evans were also in The Mighty Quinn.

This is a great review. My parents took me to this movie but I was 8 and I don’t remember anything after Sarge getting shot at the beginning.

Great review. My late wife I saw the play and the movie when it opened in the movie theaters. We thought it was one of the best stage to screen adaptations. The movie and the play felt very much the same with connecting with the audience.. Growing up I heard a ton of stories of what is was like to be in the military at the time. When the movie got their stamp of approval I knew it was legit.

Art Evans can one day play Art Shell if they ever make a biopic about the L.A. Raiders

I saw and loved this movie on HBO as a teenager. Then it went to the back of my mind and I never had the opportunity or reason to return to it. Recently I saw it again, understood it better, and loved it more. I saw that the murder mystery, interesting as it is, was the bait on the hook for something rarer and trickier. Now I was surprised it hadn't become one of those classics everyone at least knows the name of.
Maybe it was simple attrition? The people who got the most out of Soldier's Story in 1984-85 were people who had been through a lot of their own battles. Not even just Black. Other minority groups can understand its message ("What gives you the right to decide?"), as they think about the negative feelings they've had toward their brothers and sisters who go about things a different way. "People see those fools and think we're ALL like that. If only those people would learn to do things the right way, or go away, we'd really get somewhere." Chances are, the people who understood this movie best in the '80s and would be talking it up the loudest (in a time before social media, Reddit, etc.) were older people who 40 years later are gone. That leaves it up to those of us who appreciate this lost classic not to let it disappear again.
    Thank you for your video!

Definitely one of my top 3 black military movies. The others being Glory and The Walking Dead. Yeah, The Walking Dead (1995) with Joe Morton, Eddie Griffin, Allen Payne, Bernie Mac, and Wendy Raquel-Robinson. Check it out.

Denzel Washington is a very good actor. I did a video on Flight (2012) and he was great in the movie. 😉
