Their harmonies are even more impressive on "How to be me" (llive). Must check-outs from Chinchilla's solo catelogue include "Fingers (live)", "Little girl gone (the official video and acoustic one)" and "cut you off"
Great insightful reaction as always, I knew you’d appreciate this. For more Ren x Chinchilla try “How to be me (live)”, no doubt someone will tell you the significance of the location they chose for filming the live version. You may also be ready for RENs “Tale of Jenny and Screech”, come to think of it no one is ever fully ready for it but, if you do, please include the third part of the trilogy “Violets Tale” ideally done in one session a total commitment of over 13 minutes but well worth it.
One of the other vocal coach reactors said the harmonies give the feeling of two people who meet while they are both going through something…they’re not always exactly on the same page, but they’re sharing a special moment of feeling seen and understood in an otherwise dark time for both of them. They told the shit out of that story. Their other duet (How to be Me - Live), is just as powerful and a bit more haunting. If you want to see what Chinchilla is about on her own. Her song Fingers, the live version for Hunger TV is an incredible performance.
I love these reactions - the perfect blend of technical expertise and fandom! Much as I love “Chalk Outlines” as a Ren / Chinchilla duet, it really is an appetiser compared to “How To Be Me”. For Chinchilla’s solo stuff, her live version of “Fingers” for Hunger TV is really something special.
This is my favourite song of the last ten years, they are awesome together...How to be Me ..LIVE is stunning and their busking track One dance/Drunk in Love is off the raw talent scale....then there is Fingers Live for Hunger TV by Chinchilla, so very special. Loved your reaction.
👍 thanks Juliet, as ever, great analysis. Yep, Ren can wrap pain, hurt and anguish in a beautiful package. For another impressive vocal performance from Chinchilla, see their duet 'How to be me' (LIVE) - I'm sure you'll be using the word 'intense' again 🙂
Great insight. I've seen a lot of reaction but very few mention the vibrato that I think is such a distinctive/recognizable part of Ren's sound. Another thing is the dynamics - he'll go from "shouting" to very quiet in a single phrase and I find that style unusually "Ren". I like these live videos because of the rawness. The highly corrected/tuned/computer-controlled music of studio versions all seem to blend into a dehumanized mush where all artists sound similar. It's the imperfections (intentional or not) that make this feel human and connected.
You're the first reactor I've heard that commented on the "great big smile"... He's so good at conveying a whole experience with such subtle artistic choices.
Great song, great performance. I personally find it really interesting how it looks like only Ren is mic'd up. Chinchilla controls how powerfully her voice is recorded by changing her position in the hall and the direction she is facing. Don't think I've ever seen a video done quite like this, or at least I have never noticed it before. I second many other comments that you really must react to her live performance of fingers. There is a part in it that is possibly the greatest bit of singing I've ever heard and the lyrics are powerful too.
I learned so much during this discussion. It is amazing how much you picked up that I have no clue about (as a non singer/musician); and I always enjoy your acapella reactions, too.
Chinchilla is well worth checking out on her own. I'm confident that I'm not the first to say so, but I'll add my two cents and ask you to react to "Fingers" live, or "Little Girl Gone" music video, as well as the other one these two did together, "How to be Me."
Ren loves Jeff Buckley…and his wobbly vibrato. I love how diverse his influences are, and how those influences express themselves in his music. He also told Chris Liepe in an interview that he watched Chris’ Jeff Buckley breakdown videos to develop that vibrato.
Fantastic reaction. And I’ve seen hundreds since stumbling upon Ren’s music only several months ago. I can’t get enough. He has managed to captivate so many of us. Thank you . Very insightful. Cheers from 🇨🇦🍻🙂 Oh hey , update …… you have to react to a new one I found just now. Wow! It’s called how to be me. Reminds me of mid nineties Tori Amos .
I don't listen to Chinchilla's style of music, but she is incredible. This song made me listen to lots of music i don't listen to... And fingers is great
I would love to see your reaction to Ren and Chinchilla singing , How To Be Me , also I think you would like the , Tale Of Jenny And Screech another Ren masterpiece of story telling
Love this break down, thank you! They did one more song together 'I forgot how to be', which is even better in many ways. Please check it out, I'm sure you will enjoy it...
Loved loved loved this reaction. You were right there in the pocket with them the whole time and hit on everything I love about this performance. Great job!
It reminds me of the Stephen King novel Insomnia where the main character is unable to sleep and sees glowing auras around people with a strand above their head - cutting that strand means they're soon to die. The chalk outlines are a metaphor for inevitable death. He's a clever chap.
Chinchilla is another rabbit hole. You should check out Her and Ren's duet of "How to be me...Another live one take video. And Chinchilla solo has a song called "Fingers" that she did a live one take performance of on Hunger TV. Fingers has a LOT to analyze vocally, you will love that one. "Fingers" Live for Hunger TV...ruclips.net/video/KK56SwMFzdc/видео.html "How to be Me" Live Ren & Chinchilla...ruclips.net/video/SDR7sup3DsU/видео.html
Also for Chinchilla checkout Little Girl Gone and REN Halftime, illist of our time, and the 18min trilogy Jenny and Screech. With Violets tale. Trilogy is more like hi Ren
Well there are now over 200 thousand likes and views on Dan Vasc new Masterpiece we will wait for you to join our joy that Dan has shown all of us it’s a true must my friend
Just a heads up Lucy Thomas has released a couple of good songs lately. The first is called We can change the world from the upcoming musical Rosie and just a couple of days ago a cover of Christina Perri's A Thousand Years.
I think he is talking about how when you are in your depths you will either draw and then worse walk around within the concept of death and self erasure. So when chinchilla says "the feeling goes and you draw a chalk outline." It seems to be portraying the first stages of depression where you are literally confining yourself by drawing the perimeter you then walk around in contemplating that final act so to say. And that walking around within that self made prison you are idk stuck with the thought. It just seems super metaphoric, but don't cry because there's a pill for everything. So just take this one 💊 wash it down and you'll be fine. Then that feeling grows and you create that cage by drawing your own prison as a chalk outline representing your demise. I may have been overly descriptive but I wanted to take home the idea that I belive is being portrayed in this masterful piece of art. Cough cough he is Shakespeare reincarnated cough cough only better cough cough 😜
After the first line ("Still here...) he stops the guitar sound intentionally, to express and underline the wish, to be someone else in the morning. In the other parts he lets it flow...
If you do the tales of Jenny and screech make sure you do the full version trilogy Jenny screech and finally violet's tale in that order otherwise it won't make sense 13 minutes of 🧠💥 great reaction btw 👍👍✌️
You really should give a listen to their other piece, How To Be Me (live), with its more classical harmonies and its crazy, Lakme-Duo de Fleurs (aka British Airways theme) -like opening.
I think the flicker in this particular song is due to the kinda brain zaps people on psychiatric medications can experience. Only because you brought it up at least twice and I don’t see someone else mentioning it and it would be more on topic for any of the psychology reactors. Those brain zaps can feel like a quick flicker but it isn’t visual per se. Given the context with Chinchilla’s first line of Sertraline (Zoloft) and a sip of Serotonin which is a medication that relates to serotonin it seems like the most straightforward answer. And also shows the intellect and understanding to those who have experienced being medicated to include that as a detail/easter egg by them. Almost everything Ren does is intentional but not obvious.
As someone who tried a handful of antidepressives before I found something that worrked for me. Everytime you start on a new pill everything is wobbly/floating…
If you over rehearse songs like these that need that raw emotion and strong delivery, the message gets lost. It's why it's a standout amongst a sea of by the book artists. "How to be me" (live) is their other amazing duet if you're interested. 🙂
Great reaction love and respect from the UK 👍👍🌟😀😀 amazing channel 👍 check out ren and chinchilla busking sexual healing (cover) awesome many thanks love and respect from the UK 👍
He's using glottal stops instead of just vibrato. I heard he was a fan of Jeff Buckley who sort of does this in his cover of Hallelujah. CHINCHILLA - FINGERS Live thank me later.
Again, another over the top analysts from a vocal coach. Nobody wants to know what key he's singing in. We just want to listen to the fricken song. If you want to appreciate any music video. Avoid vocal coach reactions.
For Chinchilla check out "Fingers" live for Hunger TV.
yes please!
amazing
Here for that!
Absolutely!
Fingers will blow your mind!
Their harmonies are even more impressive on "How to be me" (llive). Must check-outs from Chinchilla's solo catelogue include "Fingers (live)", "Little girl gone (the official video and acoustic one)" and "cut you off"
You NEED to see Chinchilla's solo song Fingers, the live for Hunger TV version. She's got talent and character to spare.
Came here to say this 👆🏻
I love Chinchilla live.❤
Yup
This!!!
100% ... came here to say this,
You HAVE to react to Chinchillas "fingers" - the live version, for Hunger TV.
Great insightful reaction as always, I knew you’d appreciate this. Jenny Screech and Violet is long, but Ren fans will be ready for the length.
One of the other vocal coach reactors said the harmonies give the feeling of two people who meet while they are both going through something…they’re not always exactly on the same page, but they’re sharing a special moment of feeling seen and understood in an otherwise dark time for both of them.

How to be me is my favorite duet of all time.
live Version!
I love these reactions - the perfect blend of technical expertise and fandom!

For Chinchilla’s solo stuff, her live version of “Fingers” for Hunger TV is really something special.
"Crutch" absolutely destroys me every time I hear it. I hope you do a reaction/analysis for it.
"Hold On" is another favorite song of his for me.
This is my favourite song of the last ten years, they are awesome together...How to be Me ..LIVE is stunning and their busking track One dance/Drunk in Love is off the raw talent scale....then there is Fingers Live for Hunger TV by Chinchilla, so very special. Loved your reaction.

thank you for continuing to react and support my favourite artist ever ❤❤
You're the first reactor I've heard that commented on the "great big smile"... He's so good at conveying a whole experience with such subtle artistic choices.
"How to be Me" live is almost a requirement now that you're on Ren + Chinchilla
Great song, great performance. I personally find it really interesting how it looks like only Ren is mic'd up. Chinchilla controls how powerfully her voice is recorded by changing her position in the hall and the direction she is facing. Don't think I've ever seen a video done quite like this, or at least I have never noticed it before.

Finger live by chinchilla. Is one of the coolest live female performance you will ever see. It’s a must see reaction
Chinchilla is well worth checking out on her own. I'm confident that I'm not the first to say so, but I'll add my two cents and ask you to react to "Fingers" live, or "Little Girl Gone" music video, as well as the other one these two did together, "How to be Me."
I'd love to see you so Chinchillas Fingers live. She is an amazing singer.
Ren loves Jeff Buckley…and his wobbly vibrato. I love how diverse his influences are, and how those influences express themselves in his music.

Love the intensity, love the performance, love them❤
Fantastic reaction. And I’ve seen hundreds since stumbling upon Ren’s music only several months ago. I can’t get enough. He has managed to captivate so many of us.
Thank you . Very insightful. Cheers from 🇨🇦🍻🙂
Oh hey , update …… you have to react to a new one I found just now. Wow! It’s called how to be me. Reminds me of mid nineties Tori Amos .
the difference between a performance and just singing🔥🔥🔥
You've got it (understanding Ren). Subbed xxx
You should check Ren's - " Uninvited" for a little bit of light-hearted Ren! Great reaction! Thank you!
thank you for the reaction to Ren. He is one of greatist artist and he must not be forgotten
There is something in his voice on this song that evokes the vocal coloring of Roy Orbison. Incredible.
Chinchilla was on the Britain the Voice or maybe Britian Got talent for more of her background
Thanks for your analysis, this is my most favorite Ren song.
Love this break down, thank you!
They did one more song together 'I forgot how to be', which is even better in many ways. Please check it out, I'm sure you will enjoy it...
Very engaging reaction
Nice reaction!! Liking, subbed a while ago!!!!!
Loved loved loved this reaction. You were right there in the pocket with them the whole time and hit on everything I love about this performance. Great job!
Lots of great insights, loved the reaction.🫶
You should do crutch by Ren, warning tissues maybe required, there are a few live releases with Ren and Chinchilla
Others have said, but if you really want to see how incredible Chincilla is i would suggest 'Fingers-Live for Hunger tv' out of this world
I think Ren is wonderful, and so as you mate. Thank you!
It reminds me of the Stephen King novel Insomnia where the main character is unable to sleep and sees glowing auras around people with a strand above their head - cutting that strand means they're soon to die. The chalk outlines are a metaphor for inevitable death. He's a clever chap.
For a fun one, check out Losing It
For Ren check out Ocean and Humble with Eden Nash. His collabs are brilliant.
For more of Ren's awesome singing, check out The Big Push - Wade in the water / Nina Simone / Trouble so Hard
You should do Ren and Chinchilla, how to be me (live)
I sometimes wonder how much Ren knows about how good he is. As in professionally confirmed
Chinchilla: Elements. You really get to see her vocal chops.

That same 3 chord progression begins KZ Tandingan’s performance of Say Something. Just pleasing to the ear.
if you liked this you have to check out "How to be me" the live one

Check out Chinchilla's Elements
Just a heads up Lucy Thomas has released a couple of good songs lately. The first is called We can change the world from the upcoming musical Rosie and just a couple of days ago a cover of Christina Perri's A Thousand Years.
It's almost like being slightly off leaves the vocal empty for a moment to reference the empty chalk outlines
I think he is talking about how when you are in your depths you will either draw and then worse walk around within the concept of death and self erasure.
So when chinchilla says "the feeling goes and you draw a chalk outline." Crutch would be an amazing song for you to check out
Medications in tablet form are made mostly of chalk hence 'chalk outline'.
the song is about medications for depression and anxiety, chalk outlines refers to our state when we experience the side effects
If you do the tales of Jenny and screech make sure you do the full version trilogy Jenny screech and finally violet's tale in that order otherwise it won't make sense 13 minutes of 🧠💥 great reaction btw 👍👍✌️
For a completely different side of Chinchilla, try "Elements."
🔥
❤❤❤
Next please reaction Noah band from Indonesia cover Adelle someone like you live konser 😊
You really should give a listen to their other piece, How To Be Me (live), with its more classical harmonies and its crazy, Lakme-Duo de Fleurs (aka British Airways theme) -like opening.

"Chalk Outlines" partly refers to a slang term for being over-medicated and still looking like a person but feeling empty inside.
I think i read somewhere that her nails are her armor against stage fright.
❤❤🔥
Watch his busking videos with The Big Push or Sam Thomson. Sam is another amazing vocalist
As someone who tried a handful of antidepressives before I found something that worrked for me. Everytime you start on a new pill everything is wobbly/floating…

Hey --- " " Coach " " --- Your View -
- Points --- Very Much Appreciated .

Fingers live
He's using glottal stops instead of just vibrato. I heard he was a fan of Jeff Buckley who sort of does this in his cover of Hallelujah. CHINCHILLA - FINGERS Live thank me later.
Love your channel and take on things. Next up, How To Be Me. And they do a street performance of Sexual Healing that is special too. Thanx!
LUCY LUCY LUCY.....MORE LUCY THOMAS.
Ren,Fred Again mash up,thank me later, would love to hear your thoughts
mjau
Nobody has commented on how both of them are wearing all white like chalk outlines. Alot of visual symbolism going on also...
Sorry, but I don´t think "chalk outlines" referring to a body on the ground. I think it´s about being medicated.
