    Considering Parish says Guehi is a superstar and should command a "superstar" fee, I do wonder whether he has the same attitude in regards to paying him a salary in-line with a "superstar" should he pay...
    sort of ironic really that Parish is insinuating that Newcastle aren't valuing Guehi high enough while at Palace he's earning less than Clyne, Anderson, Edouard, Lerma, Doucoure, Riedewald, Richards and Schlupp, something that could have been put right before the Euros.

      I think a lot of people have it wrong in regards to Newcastle, it's not necessarily the incomings that are an issue this window, it's the outgoings.
      There's not enough movement going out to enable better financial footing, I'm thinking offloading the likes of Fraser, Jamal Lewis, Isaac Hayden and perhaps also the likes of Almiron, Dubravka and possibly one or two others, while they might not bring in a massive amount transfer-wise, freeing up their salaries would do the club an enormous amount of good over a financial year

    If this deal goes through, it’ll either be the start of Newcastle mounting title challenges, or it’ll be our downfall back to the Championship.
    We’re not a big club financially like the big 6, we need to be buying low and selling high. There’s zero chance we purchase Guehi for 65 as a 24 year old and sell him for profit at 27-28.

    • @Rychu89
      @Rychu89 2 месяца назад

      Or we'll just hover around challenging for Europe until our various incomes gradually increase, which they already have by a fair margin since the takeover. That behind the scenes stuff takes time, sponsorship deals and other added value. It's not either extreme as you've put it, I can't see how improving the squad results in heading for the championship. It's not like we're making Chelsea level signings with no real plan. Progress needs to be steady, not sharp, the 4th place finish took us by surprise.

    • @hartshaped
      @hartshaped 2 месяца назад

      I think you missed the point of buying and selling, you buy and sell players you can survive without, you don't buy and sell key players if you hope to go anywhere.
      If Newcastle were buying Guehi for £65m the intention clearly isn't for him to be sold for profit in 3 years time, it's to be part of the core of a team that's retained to be able to start challenging.

      @TheRealCurtisWright 2 месяца назад

      @@Rychu89 exactly, it needs to be steady as you say. So how does spending a club record fee on a central defender not count as a sharp increase?
      We’ve brought 4 big players in the last few years being Bruno, Isak, Gordon and Tonali - cost us about 200M for all four, and in return, we had to sell Anderson and Minteh at the end of the PSR window to remain sustainable. Now, first transfer window in the new PSR calendar, and we’re already wanting to pay 65M for an inflated CB when we already have 6 players who cover that position.
      IF he doesn’t perform, or god forbid gets injured like all our players do, what will it cost us in 3 years time? How many players will we be forced to sell due to buying players at overinflated prices who ultimately don’t deliver?
      Obviously I’m looking at it with a glass half full attitude, but we’d be seriously naive to think Guehi somehow promises us European Qualification when he’s never even helped Palace to achieve any better than an 11th place finish.
      I rate the guy, I really do. But your all wearing rose tinted glasses due to international performances where the game is slower and less chances are created.
      Everyone’s talking about him being “Englands best player at the Euros” - as if that’s a high standard that’s been set.

      @@Thaitanium73 he is an asset to the club. He was picked for the euros he was player of the squad he was consistent. He is the captain of the team and a leader. Players look up too Marc. So that’s why Palace want 70million the big clubs are hit now with ffp. It’s not Palaces fault they pick up players for good prices. That’s the work of the Sporting director. Palace want a fair price.

      Poaching is illegal. There's nothing underhand about Newcastle's approach for the player. They're haggling, as all buyers do.

      @@factzoverfeelings7503 I know because I've seen him play for numerous years. He is great, but worth 45 M max. Solanke is a striker and has scored more goals than most in the league (19). He is worth about 55 based on last season. Guehi was the 2nd best cb at Palace for the last few years, he had a decent euros. If he didn't play or go to euros he wouldn't be worth more than 25
