I was born and raised here in Oklahoma. Lived many other places, hated them, glad to be back home! Wasnt gone for too long anytime and always wanted to be back. Home for 52 years!
I have adopted Oklahoma as my home and I'm proud of what all its people have accomplished. While not perfect, I embrace what Oklahoma has become. Its past (good and bad), its present and its future is what makes this state great!
My wife & i are from Belgium, europe. March 2010 we spent 8 days in OKC, and also made a roadtrip to tx,nm and az (route 66). Apart from the beauty of all of these states we visited, we were pleasantly surprised by the friendlyness of the people we've met. We loved the place. Earls Ribs, Irma's Burgers, the Geeks at the local computershop, barrelriding in Guthrie, Langston's, the helpfull people of OKC. Allready mis the place..
First of all, Great job Vince Gill for a fabulous job on the song. Your voice put a calm over some of the comments that have been written. HOWEVER...All of the things you who have posted before me have displayed by your thoughts exactly what Oklahoma and it's heritage and history have been trying to overcome. Don't set history back by speaking and continuing to be bitter before thinking and offering a solution. This world is already becoming less appealing by the minute WITHOUT your help.
i was born at the other side of the continent 22 years ago i came to live in Oklahoma and this state treat myself so well ,Although I no longer live in that state , when someone asks me where I am from i say Oklahoma . Oklahoma thank you very much for all your kindness i am and always will be an Oklahoman .
And for anyone else who wishes to say that Oklahoma should not celebrate 100 years of Statehood; I will say that you obviously have not been here nor do you know the rest of the story as it is still being written.
It's a great state to live in. Anyone that says otherwise just hasn't had a chance to experience what it has to offer. From Guymon to Hugo, from Lawton to Pryor. From Oklahoma City to Tulsa, and from Guthrie to Pauls Valley... it's full of history and I wouldn't want to have it any other way.
So glad to have you back in Oklahoma, Nightowl1989. I like this version of the song because it includes the Native American part of our history. Thank you for watching.
I love this song. To me this version fits a little more, but I like them both. I've only recently moved back to OK in the past five years, but I was born here, so it'll always be my home.
im choctaw and this apachebutterfly dude is embarrising me to even call myself a indian in this great state of oklahoma...Happy Birthday to all oklahomas indian-white-black-purple whatever.
great video, sent chills down my spine.. i love this great state of Oklahoma and I am proud to be an okie! wasn't Adrian Peterson's parents from Oklahoma or something? or did u just put adrian on there because he played for OU? Oklahoma pride!
Here, here, MSMx! I couldn't have said it any better myself. As a Native Oklahoman with Cherokee in my blood and whose ancestors were also in the 1889 Land Run, I tried to show the great things that were accomplished by the Native Americans who were forced to come here and the people who settled here. I tried to point out how both have worked together to make something good.
Thank you, WSMx. A true activist works to overcome a wrong. The true activists from Oklahoma have been great Native Americans like the ones featured in this video and so many more that are too many to list. Should the truth be swept under the rug? NEVER! Tell the truth but go out to make the world a better place for our children instead of wallowing in the past and living in hate and bitterness
I know that area of Oklahoma well. It is a beautiful part of the state. I wish I could have added more people to the video than I did, I ran out of song. Thank you for watching and leaving a comment. :)
I think it is amazing how all Oklahomans have worked together to make a wonderful place to live. It is what makes us strong. Thank you so much for watching and commenting.
I'm from San Diego, and while I love it there, I don't think it is dramatically better or worse generally speaking than any other large American City. Every residence has pros and cons and if you want to say Oklahoma is great while spouting off all of the pros and non of the cons and say it is great, go ahead. I still think it is adequate living at best. Adequate in the sense that it is really no better than living in any other state.
i love this song and this video because i am a true okie i was born and raised here in oklahoma and personally i pretty damn proud of it! If you a true Okie can i get a 'hell yeah'!?
That is the best response I have read from a native Oklahoman concerning Oklahoma on an internet forum yet. I don't see why anyone cares about their state more than being interested in a functional and efficient government. As if Oklahoma senators and representatives actually care more about you than their paycheck. I'd rather make a video about my family and friends than a video glorifying my home state.
Unfortunately, Butterfly has forgotten the old Native American saying..."Do not blame the living for what the dead have done." Hopefully someday she will open her eyes and try to build a future instead of hating in the past. Thank you for watching the video!
I normally stand on the side of Free Speech. But as Apachebutterfly obviously has no desire to have a dialogue with others but is more interested in repeating the same things over and over. And since she has obviously never watched the video which does address what happened to the Indians in Oklahoma. And since I have had a flood of requests from my fans asking me to block her; I have now done so
I see absolutely nothing wrong with having a day to remember the Native Americans. But romanticizing my state? If I had done that I would have left out all the Native Americans in the video. The whole point is that it took both the Native Americans and the Settlers to make Oklahoma what it is today. By all means continue to bitterly whine and live in the past while doing nothing to change things. I choose to live in today and build a better future.
It's all cool. :-) I just have given permission for some organizations to use this video and I had wondered if you had seen it from them. And btw, Oklahoma is great!!
Tecuhnuman, I fail to see how hate will solve anything. Now personally as a school child when we were taught Oklahoma History, we were taught about the oppression of the Indians. We were taught about the Trail of Tears. And we were taught the contributions that Indians have made to Oklahoma, which I added to the video in case you didn't notice. Of course I could not put an infinite amount of content in the video because of time constrictions.
you know when i moved to Oklahoma in 2001 i thought it was gonna be a horrible experience with hillbillies and hicks galore... but now after 9 years as of tomorrow there is not a shadow of a doubt that i lo this place. With Oklahoma's beauty and colorful culture it never ceases to amaze me
I live and was born in oklahoma and it is a supper great state. I love oklahoma. I am so sad for those who died in the oklahoma city boming that year and for those family members who lost someone the dearly love I am sorry for your loss to go to every family who lost someone in any bombing just not the okc bombing, the twin tower boming, and even the army bombing in the war I am so sorry for your loss. :(
No you are called haters because of your methods and how your present yourselves. I really question if you even watched this video. I did acknowledge the Native Americans and what happened in this video. Maybe you were too busy attacking everyone to notice, try watching it again.
Apachebutterfly, I also extend an invitation for you to come to Oklahoma and see for yourself. Talk to the Tribal elders. Also watch my video, My Aunt's Historic Home, which was built in 1902 before Statehood by a Choctaw for his Bride. Please don't judge until you know all the facts. Many Native Americans had an improved standard of living after getting here also.
I retired a couple years ago and moved back to my home, Oklahoma. I purchased 40 acres, built a home, and am now trying to persuade my children to come back to God's Country and their birthplace. Go Sooners, go Pokes.......
The accent is thicker, and you will see many pseudo cowboys wearing wranglers with a skoal ring in the back pocket, frilly shirts, and an OU baseball cap or a cowboy hat. This, however, does not make them 'dumb' or 'inbred'. Just different than you and I, but they enjoy their life, they have fun, and many of them are very well educated. Its just diversity.
Oklahoma is adequate at best. You can't really proclaim Oklahoma's greatness when 66.4% of the population is overweight or obese. And the average IQ is 98.3. These stats are about the same as the national average, which is exactly the word I would use to describe Oklahoma when compared to other states.
This is what you do not understand; the Centennial celebration is not about celebrating the death of Indians. It is about celebrating Statehood. Now as far as you experiencing racism here, then I want to extend to you my apologies. I have always loved Native Americans and their culture. I am also sorry that you feel you have been so wronged. But the way I see it you can live your life in bitterness and the past or you can chose to change it and make a better future for everyone.
But I ask you, Tecuhnuman and Apachebutterfly, how is hate going to solve this? We cannot go back and erase the past and the people who live in Oklahoma today are not responsible for the past. But in studying history we can try to learn from past mistakes and make sure they never happen again. Perhaps your efforts would be better served to try to educate people through Documentaries, Museums and Cultural Relations instead of hate and venom.
Personally, I do not care for OKC. It is too big, and too dirty. The road system is horrible, and there is always construction and detours on the highways. The people living in that part of the state are more of the "bible beating" sort. You are very likely to see the stereotypical Oklahoma in this region.
I wasnt born here but i pretty much grew up here. and well OKLAHOMA rocks! Good video. Love Garth Brooks
There is no place on earth like Oklahoma and I love my home state. Thank you so much for watching.
I was born and raised here in Oklahoma. Lived many other places, hated them, glad to be back home! Wasnt gone for too long anytime and always wanted to be back. Home for 52 years!

I love Oklahoma! Been here since I was born
Hey guys I am born and raised in Duncan, still live here. OK rocks!
And for anyone else who wishes to say that Oklahoma should not celebrate 100 years of Statehood; I will say that you obviously have not been here nor do you know the rest of the story as it is still being written.
Tiger, amazing work!!!! i love it!!

Cadebrown5, thank you so much for commenting and for showing everyone that not all Native Americans are bitter. :)

Thank you! My only regret is that I couldn't have shown more great Oklahomans and there are so many.

SweetLadyTiger I cry every time I watch this video I moved away from Oklahoma but I miss everything about her and I will be back
Tiger that was great, I really enjoyed watching it, you did a fabulous job!
Boomer Sooners Baby!!!!
He did play Sooner football and did live in Oklahoma while attending Oklahoma University. We claim him. :D Thanks for watching and commenting though.
I am a Oklahoman AND I AM PROUD
The worst thing in oklahoma is the weather and the tornados we get evey year. :(
It's nice to see other Okies that aren't afraid to show pride for their state.
That is the best response I have read from a native Oklahoman concerning Oklahoma on an internet forum yet.

Out of curiousity, where did you see it? Because I made this video.
Thank you, Tyger613. Oklahoma makes me proud to be an oklahoman. :-)

Thank you for watching, Mynameiscolb. I am proud of all that Oklahoma has accomplished.
There are many great Oklahomans that I couldn't include in this video because I just didn't have room. Thank you for watching!
Gorgeous scenery though.

i live in Oklahoma and i love it
I want to know about the Native American music at the beginning! Any ideas?
It's all cool. :-) I just have given permission for some organizations to use this video and I had wondered if you had seen it from them. And btw, Oklahoma is great!!
This was great =D
Of course we do. I just couldn't put every Oklahoman in this video. I ran out of song before I could put everyone in.

We don't claim Hinder or the Flaming lips?
6 people are from Texas.

I did not mean the b word ok
Ok well take Brad Pitt out because he didn't grow up here. He was born here and grew up in Missouri

Because new york, chicago, houston, dallas, saint louis, miami, philadelphia, and Los Angeles are all cleaner and have better traffic right?
well this state is borrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrring
