I have a soft spot for older people. They are often in a difficult time because they can't do what they did before. They've usually suffered loss of loved ones, ability and joy. They deserve to spend their last years in a safe and clean environment. They also deserve to be cared for with dignity and compassion. We need to support them as much as possible so they don't end up in these types of situations.

When my mom passed. I stayed with my grandmother for three days. When I went home to my apartment, I found the lamp on in my living room. I felt that it was a final gesture from my mom😢.

My Mum passed 2 years ago. My sister was so angry that she threw a lot of her possessions away in haste to clear her apartment.
I was heartsick and I quickly worked to save as much as I could. I can honestly say that I only have pictures and some old documents and things in my room but the rest of it has sat in my garage since I brought it home.
I am currently cleaning out my garage with my husband and I finally feel ready to let go of her things that I am unable to use. I felt the same as bubbles. Getting rid of my Mums things would be getting rid of her. That’s not true is it?!I have my memories and pictures and a book of poems she wrote.
The point is it takes time before you can let go. And that’s ok.
I love you Mum❤. I miss you everyday
All the best to you Bubbles. Sending you warm hugs and loads of peace and love

Careless I suppose but dead is dead. The dead don't need their things, and their memories are in your head and heart. Keeping the sheets, the clutter, the unused clothing and all the other stuff is just your own need to collect and clutter. It won't bring them back but a quick fall over some of their clutter , or a fire ignighted in their crap might end your own life, so try to be judicious and get rid of unnecessary things that keep you from healing and moving forward.

@@flapkatt6094 I am not a hoarder. Just relate to this woman because I too lost my Mom and found it hard to get rid of her things. As I said in my comment, I had stored some of her things in my garage but just recently gave away most of them. It is hard to get rid of a loved one’s belongings right away. It takes time to let go. Thankfully for me it only took a couple of years.

The people that help hoarders are so kind and patient, I would be so frustrated by their attitude towards stuff that's basically rubbish that needs binned. Not judging, just that I don't have the patience or capability to deal with hoarders. ❤

There are reactive hoarders, who become hoarders bc of a bad life event. These people can be helped and welcome it even if struggling with the process.

It bothered me that the brother in law called anne marie the body when he spoke of how sge was found. He also mentioned that she helped them many times, but didnt say that they ever reciprocated. Yes it was a huge job, but they received her home to keep or sell. Anne marie gave away all she had.

First off, I love this show and think it’s amazing that shows like these are helping people in similar situations finally understand there are millions of people just like them. That alone helps them get courage to ask for help.
As a person who has always had mental health problems, I just wanted to say that hoarding is not a disease. It is an extreme symptom of other mental health problems. It is the same with people with ocd, workaholics, alcoholics, compulsive stealing, compulsive sex or sex addiction, excessive eating, excessive working out, anorexia………. I have ocd and a hoarding problem. Certain things must sparkle and certain areas must be perfect and clean and organized, while other spaced are disgusting. It is the same in many areas of my life. Balance is impossible sometimes. Most of the time. It’s one extreme to the next. And total neglect in other areas.
When I need to get some balance back, this show helps me immensely. At least in that area of life lol

That poor little dog looks sad.
Aside from being a dirty beggar, she does the thing I really dislike which is sitting stuff on the stove top. Even though she may have a gas cooker it bugs me. I've got electric hotplates & a couple of times my son has put a bag of shopping on there & it was still very hot. Melted the plastic bag to the hotplate which was a menace to clean. Bad things happen indoors.

No lie, I grew up in a cluttered house that became a hoarding situation. I am the best out of my the folks I grew up with at keeping my space clean. But that being said, I have hoarding tendencies and I get defensive with my partner or a friend decides to clean my house or move stuff around. I have been working through that defensiveness in therapy. Although I have clutter issues, a lot of my anxiety stems from being afraid of becoming a hoarder. I have to show my therapist videos of my apartment for them to tell me that I am not a hoarder. It´s almost like body dismorphia but with my house. I honestly, can’t function when my house gets too messy. If I need motivation, I honestly put on one of these episodes to inspire me to clean. On the daily, I work on building micro-habits. For example I make sure I never go to bed with dishes in the sink, even if it is just a fork. I had an issue throwing coats on my kitchen chair and then at the end of the week I had a pile of coats in the kitchen. So now I always make sure to hang up my coat in the closet. I have a big gift giving family as well. Which is stressful because they give me a lot of presents and I live in a studio apartment. A lot of their gifts are in boxes underneath my bed. I tell them that all I want is a nicely framed picture of themselves and nothing else, but they don’t listen and give me a bunch of other things. Usually all very thoughtful, but I have no where to put them. Then I feel bad getting rid of them because they are gifts. I want to hire a professional organizer to help me to go through the boxes of gifts. I’m a student and can’t afford it right now. But when I graduate and get a job. Or I may ask a very patient and sweet friend to help me out.

My father passed in 2020 and my mom moved in with me. After 3.5 years we moved to another house and on the weekend of the move she asked where my dad's ashes were; had I brought them over yet. I told her he was fine and waiting his turn in the que with 2 teddy bears to keep him company. He may be gone but he will never, ever be forgotten or loved any less.

I think instead of for using on Bubbles' Mom so much, I would've focused on her precious little dog Macey. Macey is just like having a toddler-you need to keep the house clean and clutter free so she can walk around easily. In the event of an emergency, Bubbles would need to be able to find her, pick her up and get themselves out of there! Bubbles has a wonderful personality and just needs some physical help to get the rest of her Mom's stuff out of storage rooms.

I wonder if they sort the British hoarders and only film the sweet ones, because everyone on this show had such great personalities. Probably helps that the decluttering teams are so patient and sweet themselves. Definitely not like the American hoarder shows! It's terribly sad that the one lady died in her place without getting help. It's profound that out of all the tons of things she owned, what her family could take home as a memento of her life amounted to the contents of a shoe box.
