A nice easy deck to repair for beginners it seems. Simple but sturdy mechanism, loads of space without having to many screws or parts that you can't get to and well built up. Ready to record and play for another 30 years. Simple but I really enjoyed this a lot.
Great video and I agree a great looking deck. I have a Sony TC -U30 from 1978, that looks very similar to that deck, whereas that has the VU needles, the Sony uses LEDs. The dampner for the eject looked like great engineering. I'm based in NW England, and the temperature has started dropping here too, but thankfully not to 5 degrees.🥶 I bet you wish you were sailing in the Caribbean now! 😊 Thanks as ever for uploading this video.👍🏻😊
Dont see alot of Nikko cassete decks around.there are some vintage Hi-Fi sterios they made in the 70s that were pretty decent. Nice deck though if you could get it working.Good review.
@@spyder8986 its working now as well as can be expected , it was afaik never meant to be anything else but an nice player so it fulfills that role again , aesthetically it looks great though
Knew the brand but really started to fade out from the mid 70's in the UK and I'd say around circa 1980/81 looking like updated version with then important Metal tape capability adding to the usual Types I,II and III line up than a from the ground up 80's deck comparing with Sony models of that era such as TC-K-22 and 33. Nothing special technically but lovely ergonomics.
can you do a video on how you set up azimuth and speed with the test tapes and the laptop? kind of like taking us through the entire process from getting the right software to test tapes and the mechanics behind everything you style of video is really nice! keep going and this channel might go far! by the way i used to sailing aswell. not such big trips as you did, but i did my fair share of north sea and dutch waters. went across the Ijselmeer quiet often as a teenager. i don't have a boat right now though ;(
@@cassettedeck-walkman-repair i am hoping to get back on the water. it is just that whole economical situation in europe at the moment that is keeping me from getting another boat. also i dont live near the coast, so it can be a bit of a waste of money if you just go for occasional trips. are you done with sailing for good?

You can just use music if you don't have a test tape; use a Dolby B prerecorded tape and adjust the azimuth till you get the best treble. Play the same song from a known good source and sync the speed. It's not a recommended method and using test tapes is much more accurate and all that - but on a lower end Dolby B deck, who cares, sounds alright...
